That's reassuring news, Chalky; it's wonderful that they all got a good night's sleep. I think we do our best healing when we are asleep. I'm glad your heart is feeling lighter. Six weeks seems such a long time, but it will go, and your heart will feel lighter still with each passing day.

As you say, there does seem to be a lot going on in the lives of our lovely ladies on here right now, and this place is certainly a great support and a wonderful 'meeting point' where we can share our worst worries and our best joys.

Love the teddy ( I collect them ) he is well loved. Just been to Hobbycraft and found the Womens institute now do yarn. Its from £2.20 upto £3 and its buy 2 get 1 free so even better. Its lovely colours and quality dk and 4 ply. I got 3 balls to give it a go.

Kathy I must give the wrap a go, it looks lovely and as the printer is sat next to me at the mo I might as well print it off. We bought a new wifi printer that doesnt work on wifi

Chalky glad we have had some good news from you. William is obviously more relaxed as the spasms have stopped, thank goodness.

We have been celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary today. I got beautiful flowers off hubby and hazelnut meringues for after lunch. We also relented and had take away for tea - such luxury:D

I didn't spot the 4 ply Womens Institute yarn when I was in Hobbycraft last week but did get a ball of the DK free with a voucher from the WI Life magazine.

Congratulations on your 35th Wedding Anniversary, Ginnyknit.

    Hi everyone

Jean - love the hat and love Fred the Ted, too. I love teddies and have four that are really special to me. Three were gifts, but one of them was just £1 in charity shop years ago. He was propped up on a radiator and I swear he waved at me as I walked past him! I just had to have him.

Ginny - happy anniversary to you and Mr Ginny! I can thoroughly recommend the wrap pattern. It's easy to follow, and it is so effective; it really does stay in place once it's on the shoulders, making it ideal for the elderly, and for anyone else for that matter.

Chalky - hugs to William, and to you, too. This has been so hard for you, too. I hope he had another good night's sleep; each one will help him to heal faster.

Mrs Moneypenny - yes, she was thrilled with it. I am definitely going to make a couple more for her, now that I know she will use them.

For ages now, my Mum has convinced herself that her eyes have been too bad for her to be able to read. My dear sister was spring cleaning her room the other day and found all her books under the bed for some reason. She got them out and put them where Mum could see them, and she actually picked one up and read a few paragraphs! Just like that, as though she had never had a problem! It made Jane cry and I cried when she told me. It has made my heart ache to think that Mum wasn't reading because she loves to read as much as I do, and I felt so bad that even this pleasure had been taken from her. I would absolutely hate it if I couldn't read. Jane said she has been reading a bit every day, which is just fantastic. She is going to see if she can get her knitting again, too, which would be brilliant. Sometimes, something happens that makes your heart soar, and this has made my year so far.

Well, I had better go and do some housew**k!

Me again; as part of our repertoire of recipes, and following the success of Chalky's Ikea biscuits (batch three of which is currently in my oven!), I have just made this http://www.smittenbybritain.com/how-to-make-australian-crunch/ which is delicious. I added a handful of oats to mine, to make them sound healthier than they really are!

Another simple one, that is waiting to go into my oven as I type, is Weetabix cake:

The recipe calls for two Weetabix but I find they are now so small that it needs three, so:

    3 Weetabix, crushed
    1 cup sultanas
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup milk
    .
Mix well, then add 1 cup SR flour and 1 beaten egg.

Turn into a lined/greased loaf tin and cook for one hour in a moderate oven (180C/350F, or Gas mark 4).

I cook mine for half an hour then cover it with foil for the last half hour,

I like these recipes because they are cheap, easy to make, and taste good!
