    TOTALLY OFF TOPIC NOW

We had some normal uk Marley guttering (I will use for the lettuce) and some white French a wee bit fatter guttering - strawberries. only had one end cap so used a plant pot with stones in and DUCT TAPED it onto the ends of the runs (stop the earth running out). One end is lower than the other and I have tied a piece of jute string to that which will let the drips run down into whatever I plant under it or a pot of something that will always need watering. Knowing how normal jute string rots in the heat/moisture I have used wire as the ties Covered the joins with more DUCT TAPE, I also have dangled various things off the ends to remind me not to walk into them! They weren't very heavy but I may go and add some more ties as the plants grow - the only drawback I can see is they will require a good bit of watering/feeding, small price to pay if WE get the fruit and not those pesky slugs/snails.
do a dougald search on planting in guttering then click on images - pages and pages of inspiration I also checked out pinterest and oo toob. Needless to say DS will have the whole of his balcony covered in guttering before the spring is out!
    Hint
if you can get that gell retaining moisture stuff that mixes in baskets use some of that. Not seen it here, but as I am up there often its not such a problem- NOTE nowhere near the door in my case or the water tap - you just know I will be wearing a hard hat if Elf and Save Me come visiting and NOT too high up - that watering can weighs a ton (I have a hose)!

    MUMS CROSS STITCH
use the peach satin to do a wide border right round (like a mounting board on a photo)
then the lace cut narrower for a border right round again (would look like a picture frame ?) I am rubbish at explaining will go do a drawing if you can't understand it - but would rather not!!!

think i understand what you are saying but i dont think i have enough lace for that dress had small yoke and 3/4 sleeves in that fabric so only little bits available as i was only small at the time.
will have a play with mitreing some strips and see if i can make a border edge with those.
    thank you

poly tunnel looks brill, i want a green house now

tips for mitre corners etc, and then use a 'near match' for the satin for the back of the cushion????

I also have a greenhouse - but seem to spend every spring replacing glass panels that have been shattered over the winter - safety glass here is expensive..... the poly tunnel was to be 'instead off' but I am loath to give up the greenie - which is easier to keep heated over the colder months and has the staging etc so I get to play away, when I have had enough indoors..

LOL id just googled mitred cushion with panel when i got home from work and am working on exactly this page, ive just made a paper template and am going to make a trial one out of other scrap fabric to see if my template is successful. i would say great minds think alike but dont think mine is that great some days.

by green house i meant polytunnel as i live next to a park and spend the whole of summer lobbing stray balls back, and we often get golf balls come over!!

as the dress is over 40 years old im not really surprised you couldnt find a match, me and other big bridesmaids were in tangerine the younger 2 were in aqua. cant you tell it was late 60s early 70s LOL
my cousions the other 3 bridesmaids had long fine blonde hair so had it up in buns with flower circlets i had thick short brown hair so had it set in what looked like a culy perm with little fabri roses randomly pushed in the curls. think hilda ogdens head on a small childs shoulders and you get the picture

not sure if you can see these well enough ive not really used fabrics that contrast enough on these trial panels
one has two bands of different fabrics round the edge the other just has one. this is the sum total of my efforts today apart from mending the sleeve on DS2s school jumper. i am placing the blame squarely at roamings door as she gave me permission to have today off.
BTW school friend thinks your gardening ideas are brill and will use them tomorrow in her planning meeting
i think your scrappy scarf is lovely, i really like how they turn out

chalky i love that blanket the colours blend beautifully
