Hi everyone from a beautifully sunny corner of France. It's really lovely today, as it was yesterday when we took a walk along the local river. I hope the sun is shining for all of you.
Jean - great to give the hedgies a column of their own; thanks for doing that! I'm so glad that Steinbeck's contribution to your life is over now.
As for the knit-in lace, I bought some years ago and used it to make a ballerina doll. It's really effective.
Chalky - the shop must have been thrilled with your makes. Skyping the grandchildren is lovely, isn't it?
F1 - I was there recently with a project I just wasn't enjoying doing. Once I'd ripped it out and started again, I felt much better!
Mrs Moneypenny - hope you've finished clearing up after your alterations!
PSSO - glad the 'medicine' is working!
Well, I have finished a fifth blanket (they will all be going to my Mum's rest home on our next trip back home - still going to a good cause but saving postage!). I will start another one this evening. This one will be made from squares because I have used up all my big balls of wool and only have smallish balls left. I also found a load of knubbly wool in a delicate peach colour which is quite fine so I am deciding what to do with that; I have quite a lot of it. It would make lightweight shawls, I think. I also got the sewing machine out this morning and made a new ironing board cover. I used an old duvet cover, so it was a good bit of recycling!
Do any of you have collections of obscure yarns in your stash? I have a big box full of what I call 'feature' yarns (ribbon, pom-pom, and so on), so I shall be working out what to do with those once I've used the regular yarn up. I'm so glad that I decided to stick with lap blankets because I have been able to use up such a lot of wool, and used some satisfying colour combinations (the last one is two greens and a hot pink). I think you can be quite imaginative with lap blankets! Apart from making useful things that I know will be welcomed, I am creating huge huge gaps in my stash boxes that are crying out to be filled! I can barely wait for the next trip to my favourite wool shop in Southampton! I think I have also invented some new stitches, too!
Anyway, I had better go and make DH another cuppa - he's renovating an outside wall as a feature for a new sitting-out area. Even though we are (eventually!) selling up, it is keeping him occupied and will enhance the house.
Will do the update tomorrow!

Enjoying the luxury of the sunshine here
all the windows and doors are open and the house is feeling brighter. Just working on the second throw for a friend and doing well, quarter of the squares done so far.
Chalky loving the whole idea of Skype, glad you can still have quality time with your wonderful little man.
Thirzah love the idea of making things for Lent, much better than giving stuff up and I make stuff all the time so I feel quite virtuous.
PSSO you has fingers so you can count to 5 reallybut freely accept after much consideration that crafty type slurs on peoples abilities are funny as long as no one works out that I cant knit in more than one colour at once, on more than 2 needles and thats why I crochet so much :rotfl:

Roamin - well done on getting to grips with the lace. I have a huuuge roll of that red and gold stuff to use, can`t remember what I was going to do with it, as well as a bag of mixed colours which I have temporarily [STRIKE]mislaid[STRIKE] tidied away while decluttering.
Sadly the shop is not mine, it`s another Elaine. It`s in the village I used to live in when I was 12-15 (just a few years ago )I think it was a drapers / woolshop back then.
Have been there several times and always come away with something crafty. She doesn`t stock much wool but there`s so many other things to look at and possibly spend your pennies on.
Ginny - I can only knit on 2 needles as well and as for those long circly type things  keep them away from me.
Sunshine here today as well although I only saw it through the window. Been washing down paintwork with sugar soap, prior to painting............sometime.
Well the ceiling has been scraped smoother than it was, all the pointy bits removed so spiders cannot swing from one to the other :rotfl: and a nice fresh coat of textured paint which we thought would hide the `swirly` bits has been applied. Second coat will go on tomorrow but the swirls will still show through I think. Never mind, it is clean and fresh now and who looks at the ceiling anyway.
Kathy - I too have a collection of strange yarns lurking in the bottom of the `odds and sods` tub- ribbon type for ? purple/lilac/white pompom was bought to do a couple of scarves, some of that stuff for frilly scarves, not Rico but Lidl version, can`t get to grips with it. Would anyone like it, you`re welcome to it. Little green pompom stuff I was given ages ago, lemon ripply type stuff,( don`t like knitting with it) That`s all I can think of offhand but I`m sure there`s more.
Chalky - vino at lunchtime ? Heavens above !! at least I`m taking my medicine when it`s dark o`clock
Mrs mp - glad the clearing up has been done. Fine weather always shows up the jobs which need doing. Unfortunately.
F1 - how was the pizza the other night, any left for breakfast?
What have you decided to do with the white chunky ?
Off to try an experiment while the house is quiet and I can concentrate.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.
