Hi everyone
It seems that the bad weather is affecting a lot of people. Jean - what a horrid day you had. We've had lots of rain and it was very very windy overnight, but no sign of flooding; we are too far inland but I know the west coast is taking a battering. My home town in the UK is, too, but it seems that everyone is safe so far. The rain could not have come at a worst time with the high tides as well.
I will do the update shortly. DH has only just gone to work. I have had a rotten cold since Monday, one of those sneezy ones. It has given me a dreadful headache; I was up all night sneezing and coughing and finally fell asleep in the early hours then, of course, I overslept, so this morning has been a mad dash. I am not going to do that much today, just a bit of paperwork and then I will settle down with the woolly stuff. I was going to post my Mum's wheelchair wrap to her but now I am worried that my cold will go with it and I dare not risk her getting it, so I shall wait until I am better.
I am working on a stripey blanket in three shades of green, cream and tangerine (the wool that you gave me, Chalky!). I am varying the stitches every four rows, and I am really pleased with how it's going. I am also going to start making squares using all the really small oddments I have. I want to make a few each day and join them together as I go along until they are a the size of a lap blanket. I will take all the blankets that I have made to Mum's care home on our next visit so I know they will go to a good cause and save postage at the same time. It has really spurred me on to get through my stash, too. I want to take as many as I can, and some more wheelchair wraps, too.
Chalky - I was thinking about DPixie the other day; I wonder how she is and if she is still in France? If you are lurking, DPixie, please drop us a line!
Well, off to collect the totals for the update and I will be back with the link shortly.
Take care and keep warm, dry and, above all, safe, everyone.

Hi everyone, me again!
Here is the link to the spready which I have just updated: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhOgVamMPLdkdDREdE9nS2pPYTRlcFQ3Ujc5ekNKamc&usp=drive_web#gid=0
Thanks for all your totals and, Jean, thank you so much for tweaking the spready and making it make sense again!
The only thing I have finished this week is my Mum's wrap so I have not added that to my totals because it's a personal gift.
Have a great day, all of you.

Chalky - my grannies are start in one colour do a round change to another colour do a round, change to another colour do a round etc etc- probably it's me that is THICK, I can now see that I don't need to keep changing the colours and doing all that stiching in at the ends! DUMB AND DUMBER IS ME!
While wondering where folks are ISOM (In Search of Me) - in Wales how are you fairing these days please pop in if your lurking- I checked your blog but you're also mia there too.
Just got soaked walking the two dogs, getting in more wood for the stove, sorting the greenhouse AGAIN - I really think it;s going to have to go its costing me a fortune in glass every winter. No trees down and only one panel off DH's shed roof - nothing much of interest in there anyway, so as Captain Oats said "I am just popping out - I may be a while" DH is now up the ladder sorting it - well the screwdrivers might get damp!! ha ha

Busy day today helping the rellies get packed up for their return to the UK, so fingers crossed that the boats are running and that they have a 'reasonable' crossing overnight.
I have STARTED TO KNIT - managed to finish and sew up two baby hats, perhaps today I will get around to knocking out a good few more. I have copied the following over from Julia's posting on LH
UK address for LILY (Love in the Language of Yarn, helping Syrian refugees in Turkey)
Dianne has managed to find someone to act as a UK collection point and has someone who travels regularly between Turkey and Sheffield who will take the goods donated on to her. At the moment this will be used only for blankets, blanket squares and prem baby items - hats, clothes and blankets.

Good morning one and all and a dollop of love tucked in. X x x ❤️
I hope you are all ok in the wild weather. Dawlish, so close to us at home looks horrendous. I will be so sad if the close.redirect, that iconic piece of line.
John Betjeman - Dawlish
Bird-watching colonels on the old sea wall,
Down here at Dawlish where the slow trains crawl:
Low tide lifting, on a shingle shore,
Long-sunk islands from the sea once more:
Red cliffs rising where the wet sands run,
Gulls reflecting in the sharp spring sun;
Pink-washed plaster by a sheltered patch,
Ilex shadows upon velvet thatch:
What interiors those names suggest!
Queen of lodgings in the warm south-west....
All fine here. Better keep it zipped about weather. Just think opposites.
Thinking about missing friendsIsomis a friend on my Facebook page and she is doing amazingly well after having a gastric band fitted. She is training to run a marathon. She has changed jobs and busy doing things/ looking after her mum.
pfungi Pam is also on my Facebook and is fine.

DPIXIEsent me squares once and her work was amazing. So neat and wonderfully worked.

Hi everyone. Wet and windy here again, but it's far worse in northern France so I hope you are OK, Jean, and that your relatives have a safe crossing.
Chalky - if you have trouble getting BBC 1 and 2, try this https://www.filmon.com for watching TV online. It gives you lots of free channels, including BBC 1 and 2, and free ten hours of recording space. We have found it really useful when the weather has knocked our dish out of line. Nice bag, by the way! DH said that Dawlish line floods every year so it must be sad to see such destruction.
I see from FB that ISOM has done really well since she had her gastric op, so well done to her.
Pippa - have a wonderful time with Mrs Twins.
I have relatives that recently moved from a beautiful home on the Somerset Levels, which flooded now and again, to a house in another part of Somerset which has flooded every year since they moved in apart from this year, touch wood. The Levels have always flooded (the name Somerset comes from many many years ago; the land was only viable in the summer for farming because it flooded every winter. For this reason, it became known as Summerlands, eventually being changed to Somerset). It now turns out that the EU, in the mid 2000s, directed that the area be allowed to carry on flooding naturally, hence no dredging of the local rivers has been carried out for years, yet houses have continued to receive planning permission and building has carried on, so it's no wonder that people have been suffering. Why don't the authorities ever learn? And why does the UK always do what the EU tells it to do? It's a fantastic part of the UK in the summer because it has such a vast range of wildlife and flora and fauna but, come the winter, it reverts back to its natural roots, especially if it is not maintained with dredging.
Anyway, this horrid cold that I have had (I have definitely had more coughs and colds here than I ever had in the UK!) seems to be on the way out now. Yesterday afternoon, I just stayed wrapped up on the sofa crocheting, which was lovely but not what I usually do for a whole afternoon! It felt quite luxurious! Today, I need to do a bit of catching up but I was up half the night coughing so I will probably head for the sofa again later!
I hope you are all coping with the awful weather. It's bad here but nowhere near as bad as northern France and the UK. Keep safe and warm, everyone.

Hi ladies
I hope you don't mind I have read through lots of your posts (sorry I didn't manage to read them all) and seen what lovely things you make for both yourselves and charity.
So, I was wondering if you could help me. My local library is collecting baby hats both full term and premature and I thought it would be a much better way to spend my evenings than surfing the net.
I have searched the net for patterns for quick simple hats but so far most of them are US sites and work in rounds using round needles which I have never used before. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a simple pattern which I could use for different sizes,
Many thanksStash Busting Challenge 2016 6/520 -
Hi Kit1, here are some patterns to get you started.Have a look at the second post down, there are three there. I like the super stretchy one, Very quick and easy to do.
