Evening all, hope you are all nice and cosy and busy crafting.
DD and little J were away doggy sitting for other DD and DS decided he would go and see if any fishies fancied jumping on to his line - they didn`t !!
I have had a lovely day here by myself. Decided to light the coal fire and done lots of finishing off while enjoying the peace and quiet. Loads of ends have now disappeared and several buttons have been stitched on to various items. :T Just a few more bits and pieces then the box will be winging its way to a new home. Then I`ll have to decide what to start next......
Was a bit `stir crazy` yesterday so DS took me round a couple of the shops for a treat. Bought 3 balls of wool to finish off a pet blanket I started a while ago. I know the animals wouldn`t worry if the colours didn`t all blend in........but it was annoying me that I didn`t have anything suitable in my stash
Have actually done one like the scrappy scarves - using up all the wee bits and bobs and not even sewing in ends. Just knot the ends together and kitties have a ready made `toy` to play with. `m sure I could do lots more scrappy items as have still lots of small balls lying around.
re Hobbycraft - NOT one of my favourite shops at all. Don`t know why, but it bugs me. Never seem to be happy with yarn I buy in there so avoid it like the plague. Other one is toys r us. They`ve got thousands of toys but NEVER seem to have the one thing I want.
Anyway, hope all poorlies are feeling a bit better now and toothache, sore toes etc are improving.
Away to spend some time on Ravelry looking at wraps. Did 3 of the wheelchair ones perry on LH showed -the granny squares one. Might find a knitted one to try.

Evening all. Hubby is toothache free and the swelling has gone down but he looks very grey and tired. At least he can have the tooth removed on Wednesday now.
I am busy de- cluttering and the CS has benefitted from it. Feeling good about it too. Have 2 empty bookshelves upstairs and a lot of things have gone back to Dd from when she lived here. Will be able to see my treasures instead of clutter :j
My friend Annie is off to Cambodia on the 7th of Feb and I am making a baby blanket for her to take along with a couple of baby hats. Last time she went away it was to the Gambia and she only takes a rucksack each for her and hubby then uses the luggage allowance to take things to a local charity. Last time we kitted out a village medical cupboard and sent lots of pencils, crayons and sewing kits. Apparently they shared a tiny amount of needles and threads among all the villagers so when they got my kits it was like treasure. Plasters cost the equivalent of £10 over there so I sent those and paracetomols - they were so pleased. Anyway this time its Cambodia and apparently its very cold in the snowy areas - who knew it snowed ther??? I hate the thought of little children freezing so as Im short of cash Annie suggested a baby blanket, I made 2 crochet cushion covers and they were just sat here so I took the seams off and turned them into a blanket and just have to edge them now.
Right am off for a long soak in the bath them snuggle under a blanket in front of the tv and finish the blanket.
Thinking of you all, F1 hope you are ok without Hubby xxxClearing the junk to travel light

one sewn up completely and one still to do - think they will need a flower or pom pom on the front for me to be wearing them - keep watching.....only a week to get the pattern right and fitting me I class that as a result - off to catch up with the postings
x
F1-embrace the quiet time - you get to be in charge of the telly.......any programme you like - no cars, digging up bones, etc You can craft non stop......love it,
Ginnyknit - sounds like DH is on the mend now - wonderful, think I am off for a quick soak in the bath too need to relax a bit more prior to trying the sleep thing (which hasn't been working much lately.
OH AND I HAVE PICKED NEXT WEEKS CHALLENGE on the KNITTING MACHINE...................... Have you heard of the Elizabeth Zimmerman Baby Surprise Jacket???? Well, I am going to attempt it on the knitting machine - when I get the sums correct (oh no not the sums AGAIN).........CHECK IT OUT below - that pattern is for a bulky machine (mine is under the bed) so I shall do all the workings out and get it onto the standard machine - a bit like the lined slippers above - no doubt if I could just find patterns for STANDARD machines I could crack on with loads - or even hunt out the bulky machine DOH - nah........ love a challenge.

Hi everyone
Jean -those slipper socks look absolutely brilliant! Can't wait to see the jacket! You make me wish I still had a knitting machine - I went halves on one with a friend years ago when I lived in Norfolk. We made a fortune that year making legwarmers (you can tell this was in the 1980s!) and she kept the machine when I moved to Hampshire because she had more spare time than I did.
F1 - do exactly as Jean says and make the most of having time to yourself, even if you do miss your OH.
Mrs Moneypenny - so glad that your DH had a good birthday.
Ginnyknit - hope your OH is feeling a lot better today. It sounds like your friend spreads a lot of love and hope to the people she visits. Your post reminded me of when my DS1 spent time in Zambia (he's a civil and irrigation engineer, and he was over there devising a computerised irrigation program that could be used on the sugar plantations there. As it turned out, he was very successful and his program is used all over Africa now). Anyway, when he was getting ready to leave and was packing, he threw certain things that he no longer needed in the bin, and the Zambians he was staying with couldn't believe what he was discarding. A couple of disposable razors were grabbed with pure glee, along with half-used shower gel, and even socks that had small holes in them. It changed his life and his attitude to the things that matter. He has never forgotten it, and makes sure that nothing gets wasted; he is bringing his children up the same way and now and again they send over things that cost little to us in the Western world but that are valued over there. He said they were the happiest people he had ever met, yet they had so little; they were generous and hospitable to him, and were smiling all the time. It makes you think, doesn't it?
Anyway, I have done the update which you can find here:

It's our shiny brand new 2014 spreadsheet - thank you, Jean! It feels great to start a new one!
I'd better go and update my sig for the new year.

I remember reading in "Living More with Less" about an American worker in the third world who was told off by one of his local colleagues for discarding used envelopes -they could be opened out and the paper used. That really made me think. My grandparents used to keep old envelopes for us to draw on in the 1960s.We used to love Grandad's empty tobacco tins too.
Managed quite a bit of knitting during "Sherlock" last night.0 -
