I have read about knitting two socks at once but would never dare as I'm sure I'd end up in a mess. Not tried toe-up either although I think I've read (probably in one of the Yarn Harlot books) that that was the original way of knitting socks.

I think I have enough sock wool for a pair if I do the ribbing, heels and toes in a contrast colour but my friend has just e mailed to say that her daughter is having a baby girl so might just do a pink cardigan first just in case it's early.

Bright and very breezy here although big black clouds are looming.

Little J is gramma watching, mummy is working 12 till 3 so we have been making jelly for tea time, need to think of something to have before that though. Shopping from the freezer will be the order of the day I think, lots of stuff lurking there.

Still sewing in ends and filling the box with completed items, found another bag full of `projects` some with ends but most completed. Where do they all come from ? I`m sure someone pops in while I`m sleeping and deposits things for me to find. One package ready to post, when I get to the post office.

Health wise - still here waiting for an appointment to come through.
Not any better or worse. Get tired quite easily so have a power nap now and again. Brain thinks I could do this, that or the other - body says settle petal.
So I`ll be sitting here by the radiator, feel cold more now so hottie comes in handy, doing woolly stuff. Actually getting a bit fed up with it now sometimes. Did I really say that
Funny thing that, when I was working there was not enough time for crafting and stayed up late enjoying it. Now I get fed up after half an hour.

Off for a sandwich and a warming cuppa.

Hi everyone, from a part of France that still has internet problems. It's not due to storms - we've only had wind and rain but nothing serious, but the connection does not seem to cope even with mild winds here. Anyway, for now, it seems to be OK.

Jean - I really hope it's improving where you are; we've been so lucky. We've had loads of rain but none of it has settled, and just one tree blown down in the town, and it was probably an old weak tree anyway.

The same goes for everyone back in the UK. The news looks horrendous and the last I heard was that the whole of UK is on flood alert. My children and grandchildren are not having any problems, and neither are my my Mum and sister, but I have an Uncle and Aunt who live in Somerset and who have just returned to their house after being flooded out on the last two flood disasters there, so I am hoping that they don't get flooded out again. My thoughts are with those in the US, too, because the weather looks awful there.

Chalky - I hope the toe is recovering; it sounds like a nasty accident and they say toes and fingers are the most painful bones to break. Thinking of you and hoping that DH is spoiling you! Love the quilt, by the way, but need to point out that you will have to do the same or similar for every grandchild that comes along, which I am sure you will love doing anyway! I remember crocheting blankets for all of mine, and am planning to do cushion covers next. I will do them throughout the year. The girls are easier to create for than the boys!

Welcome back to Thirzah, and welcome to Mamacandoit. Also, thanks to Debtfreefuture for the link, and good luck to you on the giving up smoking! If you are finding it really difficult, try the electronic cigarettes; I know several people who have given up that way. Apparently, it is still almost the same as smoking, so I've been told! I know two people now who gave up using the electronic ones and have now given up those, too, so they seem to be a good idea and will get you off the real things.

Anyway, I have just completed the 2013 update, so thanks to you all for your wonderful totals. You will have made a difference to a lot of people. I also hope that you can all find local causes to knit, sew, and crochet for, to save on postage which we are all finding a bit of a pain. I know we would all far prefer to make and give rather than fund the post offices both here and in the UK.

Jean - I had no idea they did the IS hats here, so that is useful to know. I can make for an Operation Christmas Child which is not too far away, and I will look for other causes here. You never know, there might be some other places in France to donate to.

Anyway, the sun is actually shining so I am going to hang my washing out, then I am going to sort through my wool stash. I have not bought any new wool for ages and am really going to challenge myself to use it all up before my next trip back home, when I will stock up. I am currently taking a break from teddies, and making a blanket in 'man' colours - royal blue, grey, and white, and I am liking the colours; they seem to work well together. I will leave it at the care home where my Mum now lives and hope that someone will enjoy it next winter.

Anyway, here is the very last 2013 update:

well not a clue where my brain cell was yesterday - seems the hairdresser wasn't due to come - I rang her to ask where she had got to - NOPE not today........ she will come on Friday instead and no doubt we will laugh over it.
Trying to change our internet/phone package (same provider) and that is also fraught with dangers - they will insist we have ALL their best offers for a tiny price - BUT WE DON'T WANT THEM! We would just dearly love to have a service that doesn't drop out every time somebody in the nearest village turns on their computer/gadget etc.Grrrrr
Moan over - today I am attempting the lined slipper socks (this will be version 4 I believe) and perhaps if they turn out the right size I will take a photie and show you all..... I am really doing sums and sums and more sums to get the right size, so far I have one about a size 3/4 shoe and then I have the one for SHREK - obviously I just went right over the top, and a few that were in between but would still not fit - the idea is I get them MY SIZE FIRST then play at getting them in other sizes.
Lots of Love and cuddles to you all - have a great day, keep warm and safe and out of the rain.

    afternoon all
not been about as ive been to the haridresser then work. wont be about tomorrow as its DH birthday and hes having the day off work so cant really sit on the puter.
Ginny and Roaming, while mum was over at christmas i showed her the beautiful hearts and the blanket you both very kindly made. I told her i had been sent them by some lovely friends in memory of Lily. Mum asked if she could have one of the hearts to hang on her wardbrobe door and if she could take one to my brother and his partner. I gave them to mum along with the blanket which i told her to ask Lily's parents what they would like to do with it. I spoke to mum on the phone yesterday and she said the blanket and heart was absolutely welcomed and they thought they were beautiful. With your permission Roaming they would like to keep the blanket for Lola, and Ginny the heart will be hung on their little sister Beau's bedroom door handle. Mum said you both made Lily's mum cry very happy tears at you kindness and generosity and she sends her thanks and very best wishes to you.

i hope all are well and managing to stay dry and warm
