Hi everyone. I've been MIA for the last few days due to the dining room floor project which has taken far longer than we imagined, mainly because the original floor sloped from front to back and from side to side, so DH has really had his work cut out to get it level. Now, for the first time, we can put a pen on the table and it doesn't roll off! It's been a real challenge and we've both worked hard on it; today is the day when everything goes back into the room and we can get back to 'normal', whatever that is round here! I am pretty sure that I never want to see or carry another floorboard!

Anyway, thanks for all the good wishes for my Mum. She's very cheerful these days when I phone her, so I can tell that she is much more settled now, which is reassuring. One minute, she is really forgetful, the next she remembers things that I have long forgotten. The other day we talked about all the clothes she used to make for us when we were children. She was always knitting or sewing; she never learned to crochet, thought, despite my efforts to teach her.

Chalky - I hope you are having a wonderful time with little William and, please, don't get locked up! If you do, though, we will set up a campaign group to get you released! It could be an interesting project and we could make squares with a prison theme!

Mrs Moneypenny - good luck to your DS with his driving lessons. It's become an expensive business, hasn't it? I would not want to have to go through all that again, especially the test! Here, you have to book a whole course in one go, and you can only have lessons with an instructor; my friend's son is going through it now and she is not allowed to take him out to practice in her car. I think they have paid about €1500 for the course! Some of the techniques he is learning would not be allowed on UK roads and I must confess that I don't feel safe on the roads here, despite the quieter roads, because the standard of driving is so poor compared to the UK. They seem to struggle with supermarket trolleys, here, too!

F1 - hope you are feeling a lot better now.

Jean - hope that Vick has been doing the job, and that the cough has gone. I hope you didn't get the bug from me, because I had not long been better when you came to visit. If it's my bug, I am very sorry but can promise that the cough does go away eventually. Love, love, love the pompoms - I will have a go when I'm back to normal here.

Shaz - good news that Danny has a job, and I hope you are feeling better now.

Ginny - I found some magnetic letters when I was sorting out the other day; the grandchildren used to leave messages on the fridge for me with them. I really miss that! I love your gorgeous bunny!

PSSO - yes, I remember camphorated oil, and how strong the smell was! I hope you feel better soon.

So many of you feeling unwell. I suppose it's the time of year and the change in the weather, but it's such a pain because it puts life on hold, doesn't it?

Anakat - the hedgie mitts are lovely. I did laugh about the cat, though! They do get everywhere, don't they? One of ours (we have two that just wandered in and decided to stay) sits on the folded-up dustsheet that DH has been putting down to kneel on while he has been doing the floor. She thinks he puts it down just for her and, like a bit softy, he lets her have it and uses a less comfy one for himself because he 'doesn't like to disturb her'!

On the woolly front, I have been making little purses because I am using up lots of oddments, and I have also made some curtain tiebacks for two sets of curtains that I am in the process of making but had to put on hold this week. I've done the tiebacks in crochet and I am really pleased with them; even DH has admired them (probably only because I've admired his floor-laying skills!).

The weather has been really gloomy this week, and wet and windy, too. I have to go shopping for food this morning, then I will get back and, hopefully, DH will have cleared away all the tools and I can have a good clean up and get the kitchen/dining room fully operational again! I might just take a quick stroll around our lovely fabric shop while I'm out!

I hope you all have a good day. I will do the update later; I haven't forgotten, just not been able to concentrate!

Jean, they look fantastic! They are such a clever idea, aren't they? I'm going to have to have a go. Good idea about Chalky logging on daily; if the worst happens, I wonder how much bail would be out there!

Anakat - just love those mittens and the hat is drop dead gorgeous
Pippa - I hope when you get to Spain you get a bit of sunshine - that's wonderful news about DH........going along the same route myself and know that when you get the good news it really does buck you up.
Kathy - your dining end was obviously the cow byre - we have the same here only its huge (the I WANT IT TO BE A LOUNGE) and DH doesn't have the heart to even make a start on it...... ah well I can dream. Himself is off to the UK 11 - 21 Dec can we make arrangements for an online conflab... do the spready stuff and creat the new one for next year etc? Let me know when you think we should try for uninterupted time - should only take an hour?
Shaz - I did mean to say congratulations to Danny on getting job I do hope he loves it - hope also you are still acuddlying that wee precious baby.
PSSO - I haven't ever had to pay for a driving lesson, we learnt on the farm tractor (which was a sod to say the least), also have to admit that I know at least a couple of farm kids who have never taken a test - but I will not be telling on any of them........ they do drive today!
Post office gestapo lady wasn't open but DH was off to town so he has posted the snowpeeps as well as a couple of other packets I had to go - muttering all the while he was - not a clue why.

Ok off to get myself a drink and a comfy chair - have a bit of crochet going on at present and I really should get a wiggle on and finish it.
Lots of love and cuddles to you all.
    xx

AND IN CASE CHALKY LOGS IN....................
