erm bodkin now ordered - last night in the UK should be here in a week - seems as its a 'sharp' it may well end up in French customs!! I am still hunting the original one.... with no luck what so ever.
Been out doing the BIG GIRLIE SHOPPING this morning...... got the car filled with diesel - don't laugh - I can never open the rotten cap on the tank in the car - all new fangled to me! Then I can never quite work out the 24/7 pumps - no two are the same in France also the sun was shining right on the pump screen - so couldn't see what the heck I was doing - followed by change the gas bottle for the cooker - well that is always novel - fighting that into and out of any car...... I did succeed - no help from anyone at all.....so I class my day as a success- will now go and turn out another couple of hats for them poor cold sailors. Love and cuddles to you all.

Sounds like a good start to the day, Jean! I hope your parcel doesn't take too long to arrive, and I really hope that it doesn't get held up for being dangerous. We ordered windscreen wipers from the UK, and the long box they were in was completely mangled by the time the powers that be here had opened and inspected it. They must have thought it was a shotgun! And I always thought guns were packed in violin cases!
Mrs Moneypenny - hope you enjoyed the film!
As for my sewing, I had a fun-and-games day with the machine yesterday! I decided to take off the little thing that I suppose is to protect the fingers; it was in the way when I was threading the needle, and I remember Chalky saying that she would probably take it off it was hers. Anyway, I took it off and the whole presser foot came off in two bits. With a break for a strong coffee, and a little help from a nice efficient lady on You Tube, I managed to suss it out. I managed to practice all the different stitches, and I even made a very very tiny bag as a practice piece, too. By then it was time for DH to come back from work, so I packed it away but felt happy that I'd had that first go, and confident that I would be OK with it. I was going to get it out this morning but I've been asked to write an article, so will get that done (because it means pennies earned!), then get the sewing machine out this afternoon and have another go with it. The first serious thing I want to make with it is an apron (don't laugh. I thought I would start with something really simple, like sewing class at school!), so I hope to do that. Anyway, I shall report on progress as, when, and if, I make any!
It's a lovely sunny day here again; I really hope this weather continues for as long as possible, for all of us!
I had a text from Chalky this morning; she and her DH are now in Barcelona and will be sightseeing today. Sounds wonderful!

F1 I make loads of bags, I do sugar bag bottom ones - a lot simpler than they sound, google it and I am sure there will be a pattern and a you tube video. I line them with a little pocket on the inside. I will send you one to see how they are made if you like.
Yes we still have trophies but only a couple of boxes for saturday and they are in my office now not in the middle of the living room. Could be worse I spent years washing football kits and rubgy kits to earna few quid when the kiddies were little so I had dripping washing all round the house. The worst is cooking cricket buffets but I got out of that cos I have DGS on a saturday so cannot do them anymore :j
Just been to pick Dd up from the airport and Dgs ran straight to me for a hug, usually he sidesteps me for his Grandadhe starts school next week, just a few hours a day so we wont be quite so 'on call' hopefully but you know I will miss him.
Well I had better get on with stuff, you know, cleaning etc ...boring....Clearing the junk to travel light

F1 film was brilliant, i actually got the tickets from the free film thread on mse, DD3 and her fella had tics as well so came with us. DS1 couldnt use his so DH gave them to a work collegue we all thought it was brilliant.
you are right some of the filming was done there. the guy who played james hunt (thor) didnt really look 100% like him but the mannerisms were brill he got the character just right, guy who played niki lauda was also great, really glad we saw it and will definately recommend it to you.
rather sad and poinant bit where niki is talking about james and it shows and montage of real photos etc of him. reason its a 15 is the bits that show james' rather playboy lifestyle (lots of naughty ladies in various states of passion and undress)SPC~12 ot 124

Thank you all for the links and advice about the sewing machine. Sadly, I have nothing to report. Instead of pootling around with the machine, I've been doing battle with trying to save the article I've just written. For some reason, every time I try and save it, Word thinks I am searching for it and that it can't find it. I've been tearing my hair out and have just resorted to posting on a techie forum.
I shall stop trying now and wait for some advice, hopefully. I shall definitely get the sewing machine out tomorrow; it's a shame because I was looking forward to another play with it today!
I shall go and look at those links now. I would love to make some Christmas presents on the machine, but I think that's too ambitious for now!
Ginnyknit - I hope his first day at school goes well. My DGD2 starts next week, too! Exciting times!
Mrs Moneypenny - glad you enjoyed the film.

Lovely links, Jean. I love the idea of matching shopping bags rather than plastic carriers - not that we can the plastic ones here; I use the great big heavy duty bags. Lidl's were giving them away recently, huge ones, but they are bulky to store and to carry around. I have lots of old duvet covers and pillow cases that I could 're-purpose' as the Americans say. I have so many ideas but I don't class myself as a seamstress just yet - well, I've got the 'stress' bit!
