    Morning all.

Day off and (whisper ) the sun is shining - so far anyway.

All right for some folk over the Channel, lazy weekend indeed. Some of us will be flat out serving the tea, coffee, scones and CAKES all weekend. Ah well, got to earn a few pennies I suppose.

Jean - Love the pudding hat. Obviously your DWS doesn`t share your taste in titfers.;)

F1 - hope you feel a bit brighter soon. Is it that Edna again ? Send her packing on a long holiday, not in my direction though please.

Pippa - did you need to go for a lie down after using that hot heavy implement :rotfl:I avoid it like the plague- definitely not good for my health.

Lots of MIAs. If you are lurking pop in and let us know you are OK. (((hugs))) if you need them.

Jean - those hats are absolutely amazing; they were such a cheerful sight when I logged on today!

F1 - will add your totals a bit later on today. Thanks for posting them!

Pippa -call in here after you've done Jean's ironing, please!

I have just waved goodbye to the lovely Chalky and her DH after a wonderful visit from them on their way to Spain. Unfortunately, my DH had to work yesterday, but that didn't stop the rest of us from going out for a lovely lunch (their treat!) in our nearest town. We told DH all about it, and Chalky bought him a 5-pack of Bounties to make up for the fact that he had to miss it! They very kindly brought with them everything on our shopping list - thirty litres of paint, along with two huge boxes of teabags, some suet, and some malt vinegar, and Chalky gave me some lovely new wool, a beautiful fuchsia mandela that she had crocheted, and a tea towel featuring a thatched cottage village which is far too good to use for the dishes! We really enjoyed their company and are already looking forward to their next visit. Oh, and I have just bought a sewing machine from a friend who has never used it because the instruction manual is all in French, but Chalky didn't need the manual - within five minutes she had it up and running and was showing me the embroidery stitches!

Last night I did a 'raclette' for dinner; Jean will know what that is - a table top thingy with a hot granite stone top on which each guest cooks their own food; it also has little individual trays for grilling cheese under the stone. It's a lovely sociable thing to share with guests, and is so easy to do with a bit of salad and so on, along with some wine of course!

I wish them both a safe trip onwards to Spain, and a thank you for the lovely time we shared with them.

I've just found this that I thought might be useful - it's a way of making a centre-pull ball of wool with just the inner tube of a kitchen roll. It has great photos showing you how to do it. I'm going to have a go later.

I haven't read the thread for the last couple of days but will catch up with it later on today.

    Have a great day, everyone!

  • Glad you had a lovely visit with Chalky and her DH - I do raclette with - cheese, parma ham, garlic and rosemary roasted up new potatoes and serve with roasted veggies..... gets the neighbours wondering just where I came up with that lot from - great for heating up the room when its cold and wet and horrible outside - it brings a cheer and a warm glow!!

Off to have a look at your link for the middle yarn thingie - although I have the wool winders for the knitting machine and could I suppose use them. Oh and I must do those crochet holly leaves and berries then that gets number two Christmas hat finished...............then I can get stuck back into some seafarer hats, in between trying to cobble up my next creation 'snowman' hat

Hi all hope we have all had a good day,

Kathy - thank you for telling us all about the visit with chalky, sounded lovely and the meal sounded equally as lovely, I have to say that all the travel type programmes have watched the French are very sociable eaters ?? (am I right?) (:rotfl:I know an agoraphobic who loves to see the world, my friend thinks its odd that I love watching programmes about other countries and the uk when I don't travel, Michael Palin is a real hero of mine) xx glad you now have all your goodies especially some new wool and where would a girl be without t/bags xx

roamin - mmmmmmmmm your description of the food left the mouth watering sounds delicious - err look here missus I would hope that no work is going to be done this weekend if "OH" is away playing then so should you :D xx

I promised ages ago the pattern for the square hat that Ive done a couple of (only mine don't end up square square more oblong...)

    http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/childs-square-hat-in-8ply

Its from ravelry so hopefully you will be able to see it.

Not sure what Im going to knit next, I really need to do some more adult hats to go on the pile ready to go to Hope Centre, that time of year will soon be upon us.

I wonder if chalky would like to visit to show me how to use my sewing machine, MIL gave me hers virtually new, nothing fancy, she couldn't lift it any more - its gone in the wardrobe and errrr that's it really!

Anyway Ive rambled enough - hugs and a some love to all xx

PS Don't want to let the side down but washing basket "was" empty as of this afternoon still got to iron though :eek: on the plus side my MIL was amazed that DS school uniform is all done and has been for a few weeks now hee hee xxx

jean, loving all the hats that you come up with, u are so talented
Kathy, the meet with chalky sounded wonderful, as did the food.
not much knitting happened this end, but I had a good excuse, spent most of the day cuddling my grandson, only giving him back to his mummy to be fed, she is doing fab at breast feeding him, and his daddy changes his bum. baby has a name, but not going to put it on the internet, as he isn't mine, and anybody googling babies name would find it instantly as its an original name, one nobody seems to have heard before lol, his mummy made it up
    love to all
    shaz xxx
loves to knit and crochet for others
