Hi everyone
Jean - we finished off the raclette yesterday and I sliced up the left-over spuds and put them on it;they were delicious. As you say, on a cold day, the raclette is a great warmer-upper!
Shaz - he sounds gorgeous. Of course, we will all be curious about the name but can understand that you can't publicise it!
F1 - yes, mealtimes are the most important times for the French; they seem to spend more time eating (and drinking!) than doing anything else. As for the sewing machine, there are loads of free online tutorials available now but it was really lovely having Chalky on hand to show me how to thread up and so on. I also have some sewing books that I picked up years ago so will be reading those, and my ten-year old niece saved up and bought herself a full-size sewing machine earlier this year and has said that she can help me via email, bless her! So far I've just bought fabric to make a couple of aprons and a peg bag, but I haven't started them yet! We have a wonderful haberdashery here and for anyone who likes fabric it's like an Aladdin's cave! I could have spent a fortune in there but what I bought cost €9 for two metres of fabric and a massive (well I thought it was) €4.50 for a reel of thread.
Anyway, the sun is shining, so I hope it is for all of you wherever you are.

OH I am GREEN with envy - all those cuddles ............. I do hope you took a couple just for me Sharon?
Well I didn't have a very good night - I was in the 3.am- 5am wide awake club - I din't go and disturb the dogs - otherwise it would end up being every morning 3 - 5 club. I did however, sort out in my head the pattern for the snowman so that's the first project directly
after breaky.
Kathy - so pleased that you got a sewing machine - I know you have been after one for ages.... if you get stuck AT ALL send me a me mail

Thanks, Jean. Apparently, it's a machine that was bought in Lidl's but every time they've been on offer in my local branch, they have sold out by the time I've raced down there! It's a Lifetec machine; I haven't been able to find the instruction manual in English but can understand some of the French, and there are lots of pictures. I used to have an old treadle Singer which I barely used so I gave it away, but the last time I did 'proper' sewing was in school (and I never did finish a dress I had to make for a school project). My Mum and my sister Jane are brilliant at sewing, but I never had the patience when I was younger. By the way, you are always welcome here and not just for a sewing machine tutorial! Having enjoyed meeting Chalky a few times, and Kay from the OS Daily, I would love to meet you, too. I just know we would get on like the proverbial house on fire! Good luck with the snowman pattern; I know it will be as brilliant as all your other makes.

All quiet here, my Mum has gone off to the lakes with big brother and co. Dd is in France at her Fils and DGs is living on Grabdad Frances tractor, he just climbs off for a drink and a cuddle. OH has gone to watch cricket final and deliver the cups and trophys - honestly I hate this time of year as we have boxes of trophies all over the house and I have to load them in and out of the car for him, all nealty labelled. We then have panic everytime one is in the wrong box  Soon be quiet time when the season is over...aaahhhh.
Have started Christmas and am doing ok, lists to write and patterns to dig out. Roamin you have inspired me to do pudding hats with my foolproof hand knit pattern, or maybe snowman??? If you have a look on Ravelry there is a reindeer toy pattern that you could use the antelers off for your hat. Will find the link for you later.
Apparently the craft fair I was going to do yesterday wasnt very good so I didnt miss muchIt was also cool and I wasnt feeling well so am happy with my decision.
