Hello Ladies. I hope that you dont mind me asking a question about knitting.

I haven't knitted for donkeys years.... been into Aldi today and they have some nice wool which has sparked my imagination. I have searched online for some patterns and found the ravelry site which has some great ones.

My only problem is - Ravelry show quantities of yarns in yards/metres. The wool (Arran and DK) in Aldi is only in grams.

How many 100's of grams would you say I would need for a jumper in about a size 18/20. Or, do you know how I would try to estimate

    Thanks very much
    Kath
  • Hi ceecee1............just had a quick scoosh around to see if I could help you if for example you knit the pattern below
    http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/pattern.php?id=1235&lang=en
providing you get the EXACT SAME TENSION it tells you just how many
grams it would take for which ever size
Usually I find when you get from the ravelry into the proper patterns it does tell you in either ounces/grams or skiens just what is required.
let us know which pattern you really like and I will have a proper look and make sure.

Hello Roamin....thanks for saying you would look

I am thinking of something like this

    http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/silver-belle-romy

Might be a bit adventurous but I always liked doing difficult patterns. Stops me from getting bored with it.

    Edited to add

Blimey - I am so stupid !!! Just seen it tells me in metres as well.

    Wish me luck

Mioliere my Hubby looks like an Oxfam reject, no matter what you dress him in he looks scruffy and has terrible colour sense bless him.

Who ever mentioned a little bag I do granny square bags with a gussett round or have a wander round ravelry, maybe try 'little girls bags' Hope it helps. xx

had DGs for a few hours whilst mummy and daddy moved furniture round the corner to the new house. He was in cute mode apart from eating his ravioli with his fingers:D Off to relax in a nice bath now and get rid of this weeks stress. Hugs to all

  • Ceecee it says on the pattern that it takes 17 x 50grm balls for the size 40'' bust
and the tension works out at 20 st/30 rows = 4'' in seed stitch using the debbie bliss aran.......
    http://www.vogueknitting.com/free_patterns/silver_belle.aspx
so if Aldi aran comes in 100gr balls you would buy 9 providing off course that
you can match the tension - you could always change needles - I see its also knitted on circular needle - boy you do like a challenge!

Oh Blimey - hadn't noticed it was knitted in the round...I seem to remember trying that once. Perhaps I'll try an easier pattern but at least I know how much wool to buy

thanks very much for your help

Thought you might like to have a go at this, someone has to win it and would be nice if it was one of us,
    . :)

Thank you Jean that was a lovely few minutes playing with the bunny. I made tiny chocolate eggs for DGs today with a mould a friend sent me, I got covered in chocolate and there was no one to lick the bowl:D Off for an early night as I am weary today but had a lovely day. Hope you all have a lovely weekend xxx
