Moliere - thanks for the info; I'm getting quite into granny squares at the moment and now I have two destinations for them! ISOM donated me a couple of bags of stash so I have lots of colours to choose from for them and for IS hats in the future!

Mrs Twins - thank you for your kind words and encouragement! I'll do some colour combinations for your projects as well then!

sock-knitter - thanks for the advice. Perhaps I just need to exert a bit more concentration and perseverance! Currently I have an unfinished sock because I found the decrease and pick up so complicated to follow on the first one!

Chalky - what happened to your thumb? sounds really painful - do hope that it is healing well.

Roamin - fall sounds horribly painful, hope the arnica is easing that as well as bringing out the bruises

Just wanted to share some good news - I am going to have a holidy (first time in over three years and first time ever without either family or OH). Friend of my sisters, who I also know, was let down over a holiday she had planned to cheer herself up as her divorce has just come through so we have teamed up and hired a self catering place in Bath for a week! (I really didn't want to risk flying as the changes in pressure make all my pains very much worse) Quite nervous as she is a bundle of energy and I have very little, but we are agreed on trying out the spa and doing some shopping - so if anyone knows the best charity shops please share the info!
Of course I will be taking crochet with me for the train and odd moments - so much easier to travel with than my current knitting project!

    Hi all,
Not sure if ELAINE has gone somewhere nice but I know she is on holiday, so hope she is enjoying herself

    HUH - if only !!!!!!!!!

The only `holiday` bit is the fact that the grandchildren are away on holiday with DD1 and Sil, so I can have a lie in in the mornings. Quite fancy a break away somewhere, but don`t know about going on my own:o........ and it wouldn`t be much of a change if I took the young `uns with me.

Bit hectic here last week. DD had her three scans on Tuesday, one at 9am, next at 9.30 and final one at 12.45. Obviously as she had so much radiation running amok through her, she had to stay away from little J. as much as possible for 24 hours. She stayed over with a friend so that she wouldn`t be tempted to kiss and cuddle him, so guess who got that pleasure instead ;). Had him at the weekend before that as well as she was at a JLS concert with DD1 and DGD near Glasgow. By wednesday night I was absolutely cream crackered. Obviously took more out of me than I thought as I wasn`t fit for anything much for the rest of the week. Getting old I fear..........

Chalky - no hooking  how on earth will you pass the time ?? (Shame you can still do the ironing though.) Can you not put one of those cover thingy`s on - must be very frustrating for you..........all that wool and not being able to use it.

Bit frustrated myself the other day. Went to the town about 12 miles away with the intention of looking for some wool, I know, I know, I`ve got lots already :p but I wanted to look for something suitable for school jumpers for LH. Turns out it was the local `Monday holiday` so most of the shops were shut. Blast and botheration.

Jean - for goodness sake stick to the wine - obviously fly cups of TEA are too strong for you lassie. Hope the bruises are fading fast with the arnica. Phew - lucky you got your purse back.

Kathy - glad you enjoyed the visit from your family. Just thinking the other day, if you / or family have some of those bags you put stuff in and suck out all the air with the hoover.........you would get loads and loads of wool in the back of the car to take back to France :T.

Maytaurus - good to see you posting, even just a `hello` post like that last one, will save us worrying.

Sock knitter - oooooh socks............keep thinking I might have a go, but I probably won`t. Mind you if it`s as cold this winter as last year, I might have to put some socks on (psso :D) so maybe I should give it a go. Hmmmmm.

Shezmit - good to see you feel up to coping with preemies stuff. Sorry about the kittycat, hope Mum is coping with things.

Well, I`ve completely lost the plot as far as updating is concerned. Had a look at the figures but I know I`ve done more than that but can`t remember what I`ve done and missed out - mushy brain syndrome. Might be able to work it out before next time.

Right, I`m off to clear up after those messy doctors at the surgery. Late surgery tonight so don`t get in till 8.

    Have a good evening.

Also read on internet about square circle forum is that related to any of the above.

    Woosh……………..throws hat in first!

Hello everyone, I thought it was time I posted again, I don’t know what’s up with me lately but I’m finding simple communications quite hard. I check the boards every day to try & keep up with you all but when it comes to posting a response I can’t seem to find the words.

It took a nudge from Chalky75 to make me realise how rude I was being – I have received the most beautiful memory blanket ……..THANK YOU all so much. I have taken piccies but mislaid the camera cable so can’t upload just now.

Things here are much the same, I’m not down particularly but not very perky either – I think it’s the weather being so grey after all that lovely sunshine we had. I’ve been to the garden centre this week & bought a couple of plants for some late summer colour – I’m looking for a fine day to have a tidy up (yucky weeding) & get them planted.

Last weekend I sorted out my “stash” oh dear I have soooo much stuff, I found a package from Kemps I hadn’t even opened (hangs head in shame) . Anyway – if I
ever get back up to speed with the needles/hooks I think it would take me at least 5 years to get through it – at my current pace “it’ll see me out” as the saying goes. I now have to find room in the loft for most of it as DS is taking over my “office” as part of his domain.

HUGS for those who need them.

    luv
    Pam :smileyhea

ps - hello & welcome Janus; someone a bit more up to speed will give you details soon!

    Hi everyone.

Jarus - a very warm welcome to you. The Square Circle is nothing to do with us. I'd never even heard of it before, so thanks for mentioning it! I found the forum so here is the link for others to have a look at http://forum.knit-a-square.com/ We send our squares to Chalky (8" squares, knit or crochet) and to Mrs Twins (6" squares, also knit or crochet). Find their posts on here, then click into their names at the side of the posts to read their blogs for details and lovely photos! Mrs Twins has started a new blog just for patterns but, to my shame, I haven't read it yet. As for the 4-ply baby wool, Loving Hands http://www.lovinghands.org.uk/ and Preemies UK http://sites.google.com/site/preemiesuk/ both collect all sorts of baby items for charity. Both links have info and patterns. I do hope you enjoy it here with us!

Jean - thanks for posting the totals link! I'm so pleased you found your purse. When DS2 was here in April, he left his wallet and car keys on a bench in the local square where we'd been sat eating goodies from the patisserie (as you do!). We then spent a good half an hour in a shop until he came to pay for something then couldn't find his wallet. I held my breath as he raced back to the bench and, although the square was teaming with people, his wallet and keys were still there! He couldn't believe no-one had walked off with it. Hope your arnica is working well, you poor thing.

Chalky - hope you are healing well. Yes, I am missing them like mad but we go back to the UK in about a month's time so I'm not feeling too desperate - that will come when we have to come back! Good luck to your Auntie.

Seakay - how fantastic that you are having a holiday after such a long time. I love Bath; I think it's a beautiful city, especially all the fantastic Regency architecture - have no idea what the charity shopping is like there, though, because it's ages since I've done any shopping there. Have a lovely time!

Pippa - thanks for asking about my Mum. She's doing fairly well after a rough winter that didn't do her or her lungs any favours. She's trialling a new inhaler and sounded more breathless than usual when I last spoke to her, but she'd only been using it for three days, so she will see what she's like after a week. The main problem with her is that she only has half of each lung left, so most of the inhalers she has tried deliver too big a dose - hopefully, the doctors can find the right one for her. What is definitely keeping her going is the thought of her big 80th birthday party next month! The whole family will be there (as they were for her 75th but with a few more additions as there have been several new babies since then!) and she is so excited about that! She even managed to book it at a local hotel that just happens to have been the place that her Nan used to own many many years ago, and where my Mum spent most of her childhood - it's going to be a lovely day. It's an afternoon tea affair which she decided on because it's easier for families with youngsters. I have bought a new dress for it (a real bargain in the sales here - marked down from €40 to €5!) It's black with red flowers on it, and I have the most perfect red shoes to wear with it, too; shoes that I've had for years but never really worn. I'm still working on her pressies and card, so that will be keeping me busy for a while!

Elaine - good luck to your DD. Great idea about the vacuum bag thingies - I will see if I can buy some while I'm in the UK; they'll probably be cheaper there!

Pam - great to hear from you. Hope you feel perkier soon. Let's hope the weather improves soon.

Well, today, DH is going back to the holiday home to plaster the new bit of ceiling that he has repaired after the leak. I took some photos of it yesterday to post to the owners so that they can see what has been happening there. I think we are all relieved that, although it made a mess of the ceiling, at least the leak was easily fixed. They have their next guests arriving there on 14th of this month, so all should be well by then. After we'd been to the house, we called in for coffee with some friends who live nearby. They have the most gorgeous old farmhouse which has been lovingly restored; it's somewhere where I always feel at home and could easily doze off on their sofa! Their children are on their school holidays now and it has that lovely busy family-filled atmosphere! I had a lovely afternoon there, plus they showed me their new chicken run. They are about to buy their first ever chickens, so I shall see how they get on with theirs before thinking about having some here! The husband is coming over to our house on Saturday to a) finish off our electrics, and b) have a plastering lesson from DH!

Well, I've really waffled on here today! As for hooking, I've just finished the back of the cushion I started months ago, so I hope to start putting it all together later - it has a crocheted squares front, and a big granny square back. I also need to change the buttons on my favourite short raincoat - I've been meaning to do that for months now. It's currently 'raincoat beige' with buttons to match, which looks really boring and has been annoying me for ages (it makes me feel all 'beige' when I wear it!) but I've bought some lovely brown buttons made out of real wood, which I think will give it a bit of colour. I just need to find a buckle to match for the belt, but I'm sure I have a belt here that I can cannibalise for it! I might even make a flower to pin on the coat, too. Now, I'm really waffling.....have a good day, all!

Hi Maytaurus - posts crossed! What a lovely surprise to read such a wonderful post! Thanks for all those links - I love the Iggle Piggle pattern; would be lovely to make for Summer for Christmas. I also love the camisole pattern and the photos of the delicious wool stashes! Thanks so much for posting them. I'm sure Jarus will be thrilled with all the info!

I hope you are feeling a little better today and that things are less challenging for you and your family at the moment. I really admire how you cope with everything; I'm sure I wouldn't be nearly as strong and positive as you are.

    Have a lovely day.

  • Just scooting in quick before the shut down to say GOODMORING to everybody, lovely to see you Pam perhaps you'll get a great weather day for that bit of weeding - and planting. Maytaurus, great post, think I may have to forego some of the knitting and crochet for a couple of days more, I did give it a try last night but failed miserably after only half a row on my sands blankie (you can tell I am not enjoying that one little bit). Quiet day for me, but will be back later. You all have a great time whatever you are getting up to.

 Morning chums, (edit - well it was morning when I started typing this) hope everyone is `as well as can be expected`.

Pam - nice to see you , I know what you mean about - I check the boards every day to try & keep up with you all but when it comes to posting a response I can’t seem to find the words. I get like that too sometimes, so you`re not alone.

OOOOO Yes please, just wait a mo while I pack my bag. :j
Pair of us snoozing on the sand, listening to the sea...........ahhh.

Jarus - Lots of lovely links from Maytaurus. Your mind will be well and truly boggled by the time you get through them - take it from one who knows .......... but she`s a star and always seems to find the right patterns, even when we think we`ve done a thorough search on the `net.

Kathy - just head for an Argos store for the space saving bags.
How lovely - a tea party to look forward to with all your littlies there as well. Lots of fun, hugs and CAKE as well, yummy indeed.

Jean - can`t quite understand your dislike of Sands blanket. Is it `cos it`s boring, or sadness that they`re needed for `angels` or `cos they`re white or cream and not zingy colours ??
I quite like doing them myself as they are so easy and I don`t have to have my `concentrating head` on - which is just as well somedays. Usually have one on the needles for the days I`m hanging around dentist`s or hospital waiting rooms with the young `uns. Some poor soul will benefit from it anyway. My DD2 had a miscarriage at 14 weeks a few years ago so I know how it helps, and I am so thankful that the rest of my family are healthy - well more or less if you see what I mean, given the current state of affairs :(

Well must off for now as the second load of washing is on the spin now. Just time to hang it out and then have a sandwich and a cuppa.
    Bye for now.
