Oh, Salome, have a wonderful trip. What a lovely time of year to be going to America!

Chalky - lovely teddy that won't have to wait much longer for its new owner! Hope DIL is doing well; she and DS must be getting nervous and excited all at the same time!

Mrs Moneypenny - hope the little ones are both doing well.

Pippa - hop your OH is still managing to eat and build his weight and strength up.

    Lovely photos on here today!

I'm knee deep in red tape again; what is it about this country that the powers that be just can't leave you alone? We've been sent a form to fill in which is to do with a tax that the self-employed have to pay (on top of all the usual social charges and taxes). As DH only became registered as self-employed here in March this year, he won't have to pay the tax until his third year, and the tax office has confirmed this, but we still have to fill in this interminably long form, and get it back to them by 1st Jan! Because it's all in French, it just takes ten times longer and, for the life of me, I don't understand why they couldn't have sent it earlier, October say, to give plenty of time to complete. It has just added another time-consuming thing to do when I'm rapidly running out of time! On top of that, I'm still fighting to get insurance premiums refunded, and DH's public liability insurance certificate which we requested way back at the beginning of October! Whilst I'm grumbling, I have tried to get a replacement black ink cartridge for my printer (I thought I had a spare, but either I can't find it, only imagined I had it, or have used it!), so I called into the only place for miles that sells them. Of course, there were none in stock, they had been ordered but no-one could tell me when, but it was suggested I call in a few days later. This I did but no ink. I made one further visit then came away in disgust and ordered a supply from eBay and, guess what, they arrived within four days and were less than half the price, including postage from the UK! As you can guess, I am longing to get away from here for plenty of reasons!

It's two weeks today until we leave and my heart gives a little skip and hop every time I think about it. The whole family is so excited that we are going to be back there for Christmas. I so want to concentrate on just that, but the red tape keeps rearing its ugly head, as if France doesn't want us to have too good a time! Still, once we've locked the front door on the 22nd, we'll be past caring what is happening here. I shan't give it a moment's thought!

Anyway, I'm currently crocheting another neckwarmer, just to use up some lovely russet coloured wool. I'm not doing anything to a deadline right now, in case I can't get it finished, but I need to be doing something not too complicated while my mind's all a tizzy!

I hope none of you is suffering too much from the awful weather that I've been watching on the news. It's been nice and sunny, if a bit cool, here today, so we can't complain. For those of you in Scotland and the North of England, please take care.

    Hugs to everyone!

Hello everyone and as always a big hug tucked inside-- especially at this time of year!
Kathy-- Just concentrate on all things UK!!
Mrs M -- I hope the Craft Fair goes really well!
Salome-- All that way -- have a lovely time xx
Jean and Pippa -- Lovely things-- Pippa hope DOH keeps a steady pace upwards!
PSSO-- doh's sister is in Aberdeen and she reports on the weather OFTEN!!
kINSEY- Is William's parcel packed yet?
    F1 Hope you are OK.

Of course I am trying to keep very calm-- Nearly "D" day for little Gilberto-- but also I always think of a new Crafty project for us all as the New Year begins. We are moving into DMIL's house whilst our house renovations are proceeding but I think a "kISS THE GEEZERS " stint will be a very good activity as I sit huddled from the cold. I bet we could all donate enough squares for about 6 LAPPYS! How good would that be?

Well I am off to concentrate on Masterchef but I really do send a big hug to all MIA'S both newbie and oldies
Try and do a good deed every day.

Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.

  • In response to ISOM query re Socky...

Spoke to her on Wednesday evening and she sounds fantastic and so much brighter than she has for ages!! I think moving has been for the best - she feels calmer, more relaxed and above all, safe! Carpets are now down, decorating done etc etc., and she is above all happy, or at least happier. All good.

Hopefully I will be able to pop down the motorway and pay a visit in the next few weeks.

She sends her love to everyone, and hopes to be back soon,

    Dawn x

    Hi everyone

PTB - thank you so much for the update on Shaz, and I'm so pleased that she is happier. This move is a great new start for her after a horrible year. Please send her my love next time you speak to her! Great to hear from you, too!

Chalky - it's excitement all round, isn't it? I have twelve more sleeps until we leave and you have even fewer until little Gilberto's due date! Oh, the joys of being grandparents - we had a beautiful hand-made Christmas card from Summer and Megan yesterday (obviously, Mummy had helped them to make it!). It's been made out of an A4 piece of craft card that both girls have helped to colour in, then it's been cut into a big Christmas tree shape, had some coloured foam shapes stuck on to represent tree ornaments, and a ribbon put at the top for hanging up. DH opened it and, because of the way it had been folded up, it sort of grew as it came out of the envelope! Absolutely fantastic and, of course, something that will be treasured - and re-hung every year!

Pippa - hope your OH is doing well.

Jean - hope you're not doing too much while DH is away!

Well, I hate to mention the red tape, but it's been a rotten unproductive week for everything French, and I will have to go on fighting next week. Thank goodness I ordered the ink I needed for my printer, and the bits we needed for the car (which is being serviced today, by a British mechanic here) from the UK - all at a fraction of the cost here, and delivered in next to no time. It will be so good to lock the front door here, and make our way to the ferry; besides all we have to look forward to back at home, we desperately need a break from French bureaucracy!

I'm experimenting with a quick (I hope!) idea for a last-minute Christmas present - I'll try and post details on my blog later (that's if the experiment works!). I also need to try and find the time to post on my blog regularly - perhaps I should make that a new year's resolution! I've really neglected it this year, mainly due to there not being enough hours in the day, or days in the week!

I echo Chalky's thoughts for all those who MIA. We would love to hear from you all.

    Morning everyone :santa2:

We are so excited today...DS1,DIL and DGD's are on their way from West Sussex ...they should be here around 12 o'clock :j:j:j
All is in readiness for them beds made, pressies in black sacks looking very uninteresting...but open them up and everything is sparkly.... ooo santas been busy :rotfl:

They haven't seen OH since his treatment started way back in September and he doesn't look like jolly grandad any more...but it's all there bubbling away under the surface and he is getting better day by day :D its really bucked him up them coming.

Their Mummy and Daddy will most likely go off into Birminham to do some last minute shopping, so we will be having a lovely time with the girls.

While Grandad has a nap later on, us 3 will make a Weetabix cake from a recipe I got off the forum a couple of days ago, its nice and easy a cup of this a cup of that so the girls will be doing all the work and Nanny will be in charge of all things HOT...

I finished the neckwarmer last night, it's smaller than the others I did so will probably fit one of the girls.

PTB - thanks for letting us know shaz is settling in ok...It's nice to see you hope all is well with you :xmassmile
Salome - Have a wonderful time
mrs-m - hope all goes well today
kathy - ooo excitement is building I can see,as you say shut the door and forget the lot, and just enjoy your time with the family
chalky - had a wander round your world and your makes are lovely, I got a bit carried away with the twirlys... I made 15 I just kept dipping in my odd balls bag and came out with lovely assortments of colours.
ISOM - hope you had a good nights sleep and you feel well rested today
Hi jean,PSSO,f1,toots,anakat,May,seakay,kinsey,knitternan,prfungi k2tog and all other MIA's hope all is well in your corners of the world
