Hello all and welcome newbies!
Not had time to catch up on the thread yet, but ISOM kindly offered me a lift to knitting club tonight so will be going as feeling slightly better the last couple of days. I've found a charity based in Canada (I think) who claim to have a list of UK NHS Drs who treat ME and suchlike biomedically I'm sure that my GP would refer me if that is the case although she will not deviate form NICE for pescribing so I have been on nothing at all since Dr Wright had to give up prescribing pending investigation by the GMC. Everyone who deviates from the ways of Simon Wessely ends up in this position, no wonder so few will stick there necks out. SW is much loved by UK and USA government and insurance companies as he says it's all in our heads (but not a mental illnesss) and we'd be ok if we thought positively and exercised so we don't need benefits or insurance payouts.
End of rant!
Anyway, I think my snood (practice piece for circular knitting needle) may have got out of hand and grown too big, so it might be a cushion cover instead!
Am also doing some IS hats because they don't take much concentration!0 -
Thank you for the warm welcome. Havent done any knitting tonight but might do a few rows now !!0

Seakay-- Lovely to see you posting x
Kathy --- Oh!! I know how much a Christmas in the Uk will mean xxxxxxxxx
Mrs M & ISOM --- Twirlies on the way!
Kinsey -- Hello and lots of love x
Love to everyone having a lurk and please pop in soon.
Well I got one little jumper that I had started for Baby Gilberto finished yesterday. On my way to finishing a duffle coat/jumper I started, and have to pop in to the wool shop for some more wool for a cushion I am in the middle of. Oh! I think I might have to rescue a few last balls to take for the 24 hour ferry journey!!!!!! Be a shame not to!
So I must get on --- Have good days everyoneTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
Hi everyone
I hope you are all enjoying some sunshine again today. It started off quite cloudy here first thing, but it's lovely now!
Shaz - I am SO keeping everything crossed for you! It all sounds wonderful, especially as you and the lady in the flat both love each other's places; I just wish you didn't have to wait for so long to find out. Maybe, it won't be that long; let's hope so.
Seakay - great to hear from you and to hear that you are feeling a little better. I think you only have to read articles by Esther Rantzen about her daughter's ME to realise that it's certainly NOT all in your head. Here's a couple of links http://www.nmec.org.uk/ and http://www.meassociation.org.uk/?p=4517 My youngest sister had it after a dreadful bout of glandular fever when she was only seven years old, then she was taken seriously ill with something connected to glandular fever at fourteen, and finally she was diagnosed - after years and years of no-one taking her seriously, with ME and fibromyalgia. It wasn't until she moved to Lincolnshire about seven years ago that she found a really understanding GP who had been studying the conditions and who took her seriously. This year she achieved an MA in Fine Art, after four years of very hard work! I'm sure she wouldn't have got that far without her GP's commitment.
Anyway, I've done the update and, in my next post, I will copy and paste post 1885 which explains what we do for any lurkers who are out there in lurkdom; come and join us, and the wonderful newbies who have joined us over the last few weeks! I can promise you a warm welcome into the fold!

WHAT WE DO!
This lovely group began in 2007 based on the very simple idea of knitting or crocheting squares for charity. The original idea was to make a complete blanket which we could then give to an elderly person.
A post was put on to http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ asking if anyone was interested in contributing a square or two and the rest, as they say, is history. Our group has made in excess of 8,000 items which have been distributed to various charities and premature baby units throughout the UK and abroad.
We soon found the wonderful Loving Hands Charity Knitters Group http://www.lovinghands.org.uk/ an ever-growing group of lovely people who knit, sew and crochet for charity. The group is run by Lou, a jewel in the crown who, despite serious setbacks in her own life, runs the group with an efficiency that defies belief. She distributes items all around the world, making a huge difference in the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves. A look at their website will illustrate just how hard everyone works, and you will find links to free patterns and lots of other great information.
Preemies UK is another group that collects knitted and crocheted items to send to premature baby units in hospitals throughout the UK. On this website, too, you will find links to free patterns, and information about what the group does.
One of our greatest contributers on this thread is Maytaurus – over the years, she has amassed a huge collection of links to free patterns, tutorials, and lots of other goodies, which means that we are never short of inspiration. She is always on the lookout for things to share with us. Sadly, she has not been in good health for the last few months, so she has not been able to post as often as she did. We all wish her the very best and hope that it will not be long before she is back here with us.
We have a Yahoo group called the Wooligans. It’s choc-a-bloc with the most wonderful photos that we have posted of all the items we make, for charity, and for personal projects. Anyone wishing to join will just need to ‘apply’, following the instructions on the website, and, as soon as they are ‘approved’ they will be able to see all the photos, giving them a perfect illustration of what we do.
Due to family and work commitments, we don’t all have a lot of time to spare, so there is never any pressure to make loads of things. If someone just has the time to make one little hat for a premature baby, it will make a huge difference to someone’s life. Every single item is important so, if you feel you don’t have the time, please remember that one hat will be just as welcome and valued as a hundred.
It doesn’t matter where you live – I, Roamin in the Gloamin, and DPixie all live in France (sadly, not close enough to each other to form a knit and natter group!) and Chalky spends some of her year in Spain, and some in the UK. So whether you are in the UK, in Europe, or even further away, you are welcome here.
We update our totals regularly. You will see from the posts already on the thread, that people keep their own running totals in their signatures and, when they do post their weekly (or monthly, whatever is convenient) totals, they highlight the items and numbers in red; this makes it easier for us to add to our update spreadsheet – a wonderful thing that Roamin in the Gloamin kindly devised for us.
In time, I will probably ‘tweak’ this post but I just wanted to make it easier for newbies and lurkers to find out exactly what we do.
Anyone who joins us is assured of the warmest welcome from us all and, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask – we are a friendly bunch and will do our best to answer!
Do please join us!

IMPORTANT!: When you post your totals, please type them in red - it makes it so much easier for me to see them when I'm collecting figures for the update!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Mrs Moneypenny - I think it comes to us all in the end. I finally had to stop complaining that the print on everything had got smaller, and get my eyes tested. I'm so glad I did, too!
Chalky - Christmas in the UK is such an exciting prospect, especially sharing it with the children and grandchildren. They are going to make sure they are all in one house on Christmas day afternoon so I shall be in seventh heaven, watching the littlies open their pressies! On Boxing Day we hope to visit my Mum and my sister and BIL. I've really missed all that this last couple of Christmasses, and the New Year, too. In Southampton, all the ships in the docks sound their horns as the year changes, and there's always loads of fireworks going off, and I so want to be there again, to share all that wonderful atmosphere! I just have to count down the days but it does give me plenty of time to sort out pressies and so on, so I shall really enjoy the next couple of months. My Christmas countdown has well and truly started! Yours will be fantastic, too; your first one as a grandmother - how special that will be!
