  • I did Cambridge Diet many, many years ago (circa 1987?) - nearly ended up in hospital because I got too dehydrated, and was losing the weight too fast. Never met or heard of anyone who managed to keep the weight off with that.

    Hello all

Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers for yesterday :A
Just a quick update... we saw MrB and he was pleased with how OH was healing after the op, he said that the tumour in his cheek came out whole and as far as he can see from the CT scan has not spread (phew) but as a safeguard radiotherapy will still be needed.
Afterwards we had a long chat to our MacMillan nurse who told us to ring any time we need to for a chat or, to ask questions or just for reassurance.
We came home feeling so much better, there are a few hurdles to jump yet but....one step at a time :)

mommabear - I had the same reaction so many tears. What a lovely old lady she must have been.I think something like that touches a chord with most of us
shaz - you sound more relaxed already :T Is Josh coming to you for tea or are you going to his place?
ISOM - the CD is the worst diet I have ever tried, like you I had the most horrendous headaches, something I rarely get and was told I needed to drink more water, tried that, didnt work so came off diet.I did like the chewey bars though ;)
MrsTwins - thank you so much for the offer I cant really plan that for ahead yet, but I am sure one of our friends on here will be able to use them :)
mrs-moneypenny - what is a cemetry card? I have never heard of them before

I finished the little rabbit last night, will start on a couple of Rainbow Babies next just got to sort some stash out in happy colours :)

Can you post piccy of bunny?!!
Did dome more of shrug last night and now waiting for Loving hands challenges for my next brain dead project - mum has finished off baby jumper.
Socky hope youre enjoying new freedom! How did the Meal go last night? Odd for you both that he was visiting no doubt!
Hope poorlies are feeling on the mend but hugs either way...
Thanks for comments/support re diet; am decided on eating healthy, cutting down on carbs and NOT dieting and have ordered a book off amazon about being released from chains of dieting - will keep you posted :) Just had healthy chicken salad and peach for lunch.

Hi everyone, hope you are all well - or as well as you can be.

Pippa - so glad to hear the positive news, hopefully the radio will get rid of any of the wee blighters lurking out of sight.

ISOM - Advice Jim got from the dietician was a) use a smaller plate so portions will be less but the eye/brain still sees a full plate. This only works if you don`t pile the food upwards instead of outwards !!
    b) If you crave chocolate / sweeties. Buy a bar of choccy but cut it into 2 square portions. When you feel the need for it, slowly suck 1 choc square until it melts away, you might not need the second one as the taste will linger in your mouth for ages. Same sort of idea with fruit pastilles etc.
Doc prescribed tablets as well (you can buy them over the counter now too, not sure about naming brand here) which, if you ate too much fatty food, meant a quick trip to the loo. NOT as fast acting and dire as some of the literature states.

mommabear - nice to see you over here. Hope you are feeling a bit better today.

socky - it is strange eating on your own, I find when DD and little J aren`t here I don`t bother cooking, just heat some soup and bung a couple of slices of bread in the toaster. Does me fine.

Well, crochet project is coming along nicely, but slowly. I`m quite pleased with it so far and DD is impressed, dropping big hints that she would like one in differet colours. We`ll see...not making any promises.

Off to sort out insurance for my car, expires tomorrow so better get a wiggle on. Done all the comparison thingummyjigs so just need to make final decision and PAY for it. *groan*

Might just go and sit in the sun for a wee bit with a coffee and wooly stuff first - get the priorities right.

    Bye for now.

    Hi everyone

Pippa - that's very reassuring news. Fingers well and truly crossed for the radiotherapy.

ISOM - you poor thing. Sounds as if the CD is just not right. The last thing you want to do is make yourself ill.

Mommabear - hope you're feeling a lot better.

Well, there's red tape and there's that special kind of red tape - the b****y French kind! As some of you will know, I've been waiting for what seems like forever to get the French equivalent of the EHICs (to cover DH and I for medical emergencies when I am outside France). Over the last twelve weeks, I have taken the time and trouble to visit the relevant office (which is only open two days a week because the French just hate to work too hard) to request the cards. Having trawled around the French civil service websites, I found an email address to write to and, eventually, I have received a reply from someone who says that they didn't receive my original request (despite the fact that I made two), and they sent a rough scanned copy for me to download but, and this is the bit that almost made me cry, only for DH! So, it's not a card, it's an A4 sheet, there isn't one for me, it couldn't be downloaded simply onto Word - I had to wander around the computer looking for a way to download and print it off, and now I have to go through it all again for myself. And I'm still waiting for two other documents from the same office. Luckily, after all my efforts, I at least have the name of a member of staff there now, but time is running out - France closes down for August, so I shall just have to hope that I can get everything sorted out by the end of July.

Rant over - sorry about that! I just have to get it off my chest; DH doesn't find it as frustrating as me but then that's because he leaves all the admin to me to do, anyway. I'd make him do it but he's so forgetful that he's no better than the French!

I shall now go and put the kettle on, and will get back to you all later.

pippa, glad they got the tumour out whole and that it hasnt spread, hope he makes a good recovery
kathy, how frustrating it must be for you, i know you desperatly want visit your family(((big hugs)))
things didnt go to plan with josh this afternoon, he demanded more money than i could afford to give him, so we ended up falling out, more him shouting and calling me names, and me bursting into tears, as i've done everything i can for him this week, and resented the things he said.
anyway he has kind of apologised, went along the lines of, mum i'm sorry can you do so an so for me tommorrow x
anyways ended up going to see a friend cos i was upset and didnt fancy going home alone, stayed out til 8pm, latest i've stayed out in a long time lol just had beans on toast, as couldnt be bothered cooking.
tonight i'm off for a soak then the wool is coming out, the patterns arrived today that mrs moneypenny sent me
mrs moneypenny, you are an angel:A thankyou ever so much for printing and posting me the patterns xx
    hugs all

Miol sorry its stil frustrating for you..youre gonna be like a bottle of pop when you get that piece of paper!!
Socky sorry that J has been so demanding. While I know its hard I really think you need to say no and remind him that he is meant to be living independently; that means he has to try and manage his money and while hard not to just hand cash over I really think you should try and start as you mean go on; he will be getting benefits and if theyre waiting to come through will be able to apply for a crisis loan so please, please let him learn now that you are not a cash point machine so that he learns to budget...wont be easy but hope you can ...if its any consolation I will be saying exactly the same to people tomorrow and am sure that some wont take it well!! If you cant let him stand totally on your two feet why not give him a food parcel instead of money...just a thought big hugs...
