Our emergency squares are made either with knitting or crocheting -- Double Knitting wool is usually knitted on 4mm or the old fashioned size 8.
Number of stitches for a 6" square
ummmmm I will have to research this as I don't want to give you the wrong info. I think it is cast on 40 stitches. But I know as soon as I go researching to make sure some lovely person will be along to confirm it or give better information.
Thanks again for joining us and I do hope you get clicking soon!

Hi all, sorry been missing again.

Been under a big black cloud again lately but hopefully coming out the other side again now.
World war 3 broke out here while I was in the hospital the other weekend so things have been difficult to say the least, plus it was the 2nd anniversary of losing Jim on Friday so doubly difficult. I`m biting my tongue a lot at the moment because if I say too much it will cause even more trouble. Definitely a case of least said soonest mended. Hopefully anyway.
    :(
Roamin - glad you like your lappy. Surprises are lovely aren`t they and that one will be so snuggly too. :T

Chalky you did a great job making it up. Onwards and upwards with the Kissy geezers club.

Kathy - what a pair of lightweights you and DH must be compared to the French, can`t keep up with the boozers eh? ;)

ISOM - end of the hols already, how time flies.

Sock knitter - hope things are settling down on the home front. Is your lad finding his feet in his new place? Another place you might find stuff for him his your local branch of netmums, just google it and put in your postcode. Had a few bargains for little J from there.

Have just skimmed through the last few pages so if I`ve missed anything important I do apologise.

Welcome to you marbella, nice to have you on board. I use old size 8 needles (4mm) and I think I cast on 30 or maybe 32 stitches for 6" squares. Can`t remember rightly as the last ones I did were crocheted. It also depends how tightly or slackly you knit. Best way to find out is just try one and see. Have fun anyway.

ETA I see mrs m and chalky have beaten me to it with their replies.

Still plodding on with the crochet project. I WILL NOT GIVE UP (not yet anyway.) Have only pulled it back 5 times. If I hadn`t mucked it up it would nearly have been finished:( It`s much slower than doing granny squares that`s for sure.

Off to bed now I think.

Thanks for the kind welcome messages. I am going to busy, busy knitting. I usually knit blankets for the local Dog & Cat Shelter for Christmas, but thought I may donate them to another cause for a change. Anyway I look forward to getting started.
