Good morning to all -- Well the finishing fairy! ---- well it finished off some new little bits and pieces and did finish off some sewing up bits. But the button border ( Oh Button Border I hate thee!! Any tips very welcome!) is not making much progress!

Had to take DMIL into the dentist this morning so an early start has given us lots more time--- Cleaning ummmm how long shall I think about that! Actually may get the machine out and do some sewing! First of all I am going to text Pippa and see if they fancy a BBQ but maybe they are feeling just like having a really quiet few days.

Have lovely days one and all . xxx To all

Hi Chalky - I hate button bands, too, and I always crochet them, even on knitted cardies. It's easy to pick up stitches along the edges that need the bands, and the button holes are just either loops on the last row of the band, or holes that have been made before the last row, simply by missing a stitch on one row, then making it up on the next. It sounds long-winded but I can't explain it in any other way! All I know is that crocheting them is so much quicker than knitting them! If the cardie edge is too tightly-knit to insert the crochet hook into it, you can just run a blanket stitch around the edge as a foundation row, then crochet into that.

Have you got my finishing fairy there? And, if so, when can I have her back?! She's been very lax around here for months now!

Shaz - thinking about you and sending hugs.

ISOM - good luck with the MOT. I hate that time of year but at least here in France it's every other year!

    Well, back to the ironing!

pippa - thinking of you and OH - hope you get a nice rest on your break xxx
isom - hope the MOT went to plan xx
chalky - ive only ever done one button band and hated it! When the finishing fairy is finished could you wave her to me ..... xxx
roamin - hope you are making good progress - thinking of you xxx

Was making great progress with cleaning etc until an A4 envelope plopped onto the mat - from my elderly old neighbour i keep in contact with her - she is such a treasure she has photocopied a whole heap of hat and mitt patterns - so i got sidetracked - now i cant get back on and want to sit and start - but for the past day or so my elbows, wrists, hands knees and ankles have been hurting and im just soooooo tired I could sleep on a sixpence (as one elderly relative used to say) so dont know what im going to get done - my third hypnotherepy session yesterday was truly wonderful but feeling tired before i started made it worse as once finished i was so relaxed i could have slept until next week:D - so im just going to finish up and then sit down before DS comes in from school and try some knitting - have also been sorting my LH Birthday present out (anyone else joining in with that???)

Hope all having a good day j xxxx

Hello all, hope all are well.

Chalky - I usually add about 5 or 6 extra stitches on to the fronts when I cast on and rib or moss stitch them for button bands. Much less bothersome than doing them separately.

F1 - just relaaaaaaax. Put your feet up and zzzzzzzz for a while (I do it -often );)

Pippa - enjoy your time at the carrie-van. I loved ours and miss it so much. Hugs to you and DH for the coming surgery.

Mrs Twins - glad to see you back hooking again.

Finishing fairy was here not long ago but she missed a whole heap of things. They were hiding behind my chair I think and she didn`t exactly go a-looking for them, lazy mare.

Was tempted to go and buy more wool today- it`s a habit I have during stressful times, but I resisted as I really
    a) don`t need it
    b) can`t afford it right now
    c) have nowhere to keep it
    d) have already enough to stock a shop with and not enough time to knit it all up.

But ohhhh my fingers were itching to delve into my purse and release some pennies. I`ve absolutely no desire to buy shoes or handbags or clothes etc but wool does call my name.:o frequently.

I`m `butterflying` between a kiddies jumper and a leafy border for a prem blanket just now but not really enjoying either of them. The sooner they are both done the happier I`ll be.

Oops, little J has decided it`s time for a cuddle so I`m off.:D Never refuse them.

Hi everyone - I hope you are all having a good day today.

We've been busy helping our neighbour set up the house and garden for his 'Enterrement vie de garcon' (bachelor party in French!). He has about forty guests coming so we have asked the farmer to take his cows out of our field for the night to provide extra parking. The 'enterrement vie de garcon' is a tradition in which the groom digs a hole in the garden as deep as his future wife's height, then buries some bottles of alcohol which get dug back up when the first baby is born! I must say, it seems a lot of effort compared to the good old British way of just saving the top tier of the wedding cake for the first Christening! Still, it will be fun watching him do it! We've helped him set up a marquee for the party and a big tent for guests who will be staying overnight, plus their caravan is in our garden for some other guests. I think he's invited the whole neighbourhood (luckily, only about twenty or so houses) so that no-one can complain about the noise! The weather was grey, damp and cool yesterday but it has defied the weather forecast for today and is lovely, warm and sunny, so I hope it stays like that.

Tomorrow, I have to visit the holiday home to do a changeover now that the year's first guests have left. The washing machine there stopped working (luckily, they know the people next door to the house and were able to use theirs). We've found it almost impossible to find someone to look at the machine. It seems that the parts here are so expensive that people just buy new appliances, but this washing machine has hardly been used. It's about four years old but only gets used for a few weeks a year. Our neighbour found someone who will take a look at it next week, so we're keeping our fingers crossed.

F1 - I hope your sore joints stop hurting soon.

Chalky - glad you finally got the button band done!

ISOM - hope you had a relaxing evening.

Elaine - hope the finishing fairy is a bit more efficient the next time she visits you!

Jean - how are you? I hope you are recovering well without overdoing it.

Well, I'd better go and buttercream together DH's regular 'Saturday' cake!

Will let you know how the party goes!
