am sorry if it looks like i am trying to cut corners but have been on here for an hour randomly picking on a post to read to find some info/ i have the fyo address and know they are to measure 6 inches but can someone tell me what size needles and how many stitches as not very experienced. also cant find link for teddy or purses but maybe they a bit hard also can a square be made up of more than one colour if i have 2 very small balls to use up and what stitch would you prefer oh sorry one more thing the link for free postsge is not free but is it the most reasonable one to use?

Hi Homealone - of course you can join us! I'm so glad you found us but sorry that info has been hard to find. If you go back on this thread to page 95, post 1885, it will explain exactly what we do, apart from the latest squares info. You are right that they have to be six inches square, and we usually use double knitting (DK) wool and number 4mm needles (old size 8). Depending on how loosely or tightly you knit, on average every five stitches you cast on will equal one inch wide of knitting, so casting on 30 stitches and knitting for six inches in length will give you the right size square. When you first cast on it won't look as if you have enough stitches but it will work out right. Any colour, or mixture of colours, can be used, and any stitch you want. On the post I told you about just now, you should find more info. I live in France so post from here, but I think most of our members use standard Royal Mail.

I'm sure others will be along later with more info and a warm welcome, and please feel free to ask about anything you are unsure of.

    Happy knitting!

good morning all, up early today, couldnt sleep
    welcome to the thread homealone
feel really annoyed with myself, trusted one of sons with car keys last night, he'd left his mp3 player in and cant live without it, i told him to make sure car was locked up, at 16 i expected him to remember to do it, and didnt go out and check when he came in.
well somebody last night got into the car and took my tomtom satnav, luckily nothing else of value was left in car, and no damage was done, and car stereo still there, so no real harm done. just the inconvenience of having to go and buy a new one, before we can set off to butlins skegness.
on top of that its raining heavily, hate driving in rain
ok moan over lol, hope everyone has a good week
see u wen i get back

Oooh very quiet here today, everyone must be very busy.

Thought I`d do a bit of the dreaded weeding and was just getting into the swing of it when the rain came on. Absolutely pelting down it was.

Needless to say I had to beat a hasty retreat inside, put the kettle on and picked up the needles for a while.

Back on the prem blanket and three quarters finished the main part. The border takes longer to do than the blankie.

Lovely smell of chicken wafting through so better go and see that it`s OK.

Hi everyone; I hope you are all keeping well.

I didn't have time to come on here at all yesterday - shopping in the morning, and visitors in the afternoon (which was lovely - drinking tea, eating cake, and having a good laugh!), but I hope to get the update done some time today.

I hope the weather over there is improving - I hate to say it, but it's still lovely here, although I think thunderstorms have been predicted for the weekend. We desperately need rain now; everything is really parched outside - it doesn't usually get like this until about the end of June.

The farmer has repaired the fence into our building plots (which is basically a big field) that his cows knocked down, so they should be coming back in later today. They'll help to keep the grass down and we can only hope they don't try and escape again!

Anyway, I'll call back later when I've done the update.

Have a great morning, everyone, and hugs to all those in need.
