Knit Your Square to Give Your Share - PART 4

Hello Everyone,
I hope you don't mind me posting this news.
I have several Ladies on here who very kindly donate Squares to me, and I think it's only right that I let you know any news....
Last Friday 'Yahoo' mailed me asking if they could use my photo with the Royal Wedding Blanket for their new group on Flickr. Now they don't usually have photos at the top of their page only when it's a 'special' thing they are doing.
But they are doing a special Royal Wedding Group Album and they are asking for anyone to submit photos of what they are doing for the Royal Wedding. They thought our photo was 'brilliant' and they were asking permission to use it for their header.
I did not say last Friday because it was going 'live' today. I'm really happy that we have been recognised for our Blanket and I would like to thank the Ladies on here who very kindly help me.
Pippa your beautiful Flower Squares and Jan Eaton arrived this morning. Thank you so much. Pop over to Flickr and SIBOL to have a look they are gorgeous!
Just letting you know, thank you!
Have a lovely evening!

aww seraphim hope tests are sorted soon...horrible for you...
chalky sorry that youve been in pain...please do get it checked...always think its our bodies way of communicating-esp to the more stubborn among us!
Wearing day today...tired after weekend and some worky frustrations, more toothache and a toddler who didnt want to go to bed...going to just chill!
psso I try now to have two projects, 3 max, on the go! Must finish those before I start another! Does work and means I dont get overwhelmed by half finished items and i get the satisfaction of finishing something off!
hugs those that need them. We seem to be missing a few of late so hope people are busy rather than anything more sinister...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Elaine - I don't know one knitter or crocheter who finishes all their work completely before starting something else! I have things that needed finishing years ago,
I used to be really good until I bought a knitting needle case off eBay which came with 24 random sets of needles in it and now I can cast on and not finish projects to my heart's content
chalky75 - sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. Hope your leg is feeling better today. Really silly question - what's a story bag? It sounds intriguing. (And thank you for the PM)
I started a baby blanket last night and after a couple of hours had to frog it having managed to accidentally swap the stockinette stitch to the wrong side. How on Earth I managed to stuff up such a simple knit I'll never know!!0 -
Feeling just a little bit proud of myself….
Following several failing attempts across the last 30odd years from dear Mum (hope she’s looking down on me and telling me that she knew I could do it…), my Grandma, my Auntie and last but most certainly not last, the fabulous Maureen on Loving Hands.....
Have done a “square” (okay, it’s got wibbly edges) in double crochet AND one in trebles!!
All thanks to sitting myself down, having a word with myself and telling myself not to be so daft – after all I’ve been knitting since I was 5, and surely one hook can’t be all that difficult – I can do double pointed needles, and circular, and cables and nothing knittywise phases me, but I was scared of one single hook!
I have hookphobia no more – thanks to a lovely step by step tutorial by the gorgeous Chalky75. I am in desperate need of undertaking a granny square but can’t find anywhere that steps me through it (Chalky has one, but it’s confusing me…). Not to say that the tutorial isn't fab, it is - it's just my brain being silly with me at the moment!!!
So – can anyone point me in the right direction!?
I am determined to get this cracked by the end of the school Easter holidays, and as we’re only on Day Two I don’t think I’ve done too bad!
Thanks in advance,
Dawn xx:hello:0 -
Well done to you!
It's so lovely to be able to crochet.
Chalkys tutorial was brilliant I thought.
May I suggest Lucy's blog
http://attic24.typepad.com/
She also has some great tutorials!
Also I was popping over to tell the Ladies on MSE that in Issue 31's Let's Get Crafting 'Knit and Crochet made Easy!'
that SIBOL is featured.
It's in the shops on the 21st April.
My friend has got hers early because she subscribes.
Well done I' m really pleased for you!
My web site is

Hi Purpleteddybear - great to hear from you and well done on learning to crochet! here's a good tutorial for how to make a granny square; http://www.knitting-n-crochet.com/granny-square.html once you've done a couple, you'll find them so easy to do, I promise! Good luck! This link has some good pictures but you can always google 'how to crochet a granny square' and you'll get loads more tutorials!
Mrs Twins - we don't mind you posting any news on here. You're one of us now, so please feel free to post about anything! Your news is fantastic and well-deserved, so congratulations on another amazing achievement! I have one and a half squares for you - I hope to get a few more done; I love your current challenges!
Chalky - hope your leg is not so painful today but don't ignore it if it doesn't get any better - that's an order!
ISOM - I really hope your tooth pain goes soon. Perhaps you need another visit to the dentist?
Jean - is your cough any better now?
Seraphim - 'not finish to your heart's content'! That did make me laugh!
Well, it's another lovely sunny day, so I am off to the holiday home to finish spring-cleaning the garden then it will just need regular mowings to keep it tidy, hopefully.
I hope you are all having a good day.

Well done, PurpleTeddyBear! Do keep at it for a week or two until the stitches become very familiar to you.
I 're-taught' myself to crochet earlier this year, and once you get used to holding the wool differently from knitting, it becomes easy. I now try to keep both going!
There are lots of videos on Youtube for granny squares. You just have to remember that if the commentary is american, then they refer to our trebles as doubles over the pond. I.e. uk treble = us double.
You can also find some clear instructions here http://www.flickr.com/photos/90733686@N00/sets/72157617721243578/
Good luck!

Hi all, can you see my halo a-shining??
I now have a pile of completely finished things for charity and the end is in sight for the rest - bands to sew on and add buttons to two cardies, (didn`t have the necessary buttons until I bought loads off ebay) and a pair of fingerless mitts to sew up so that should all be done tonight.I have a jumper still on the needles but that doesn`t really count does it, it`s still a wip not a ufoMust try and get some pics on as well.
PTB - I have been doing granny squares following attic24 instructions for summer garden granny squares.
http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/summer-garden-granny-square.html
I now have quite a pile of them, been doing them about 9in across so they are much bigger than the wee squares she has done, just kept going round and round a few more times. I can now say that I can do them without having to refer to the instructions at all, so I feel quite proud of myself. Question now is what will I do with them - probably sew them together to make a blanket I suppose.
Off to have a cuppa and a sandwich before going to the supermarket, otherwise I will buy all the unnecessary rubbish under the sun. Always overstock when I`m hungry

Hi to one and all -- and lots of love tucked in!
Purple Teddy Bear -- So glad hookaphobia is retreating!
Thanks for kind wishes re leg! I was feeling really sorry for myself yesterday. Went to bed with a bottle and a dose of Ibrobrufen and it is definitely a lot better today. I have rung my GP this morning to get an appointment as soon as we get home just to get it checked out! Maybe I pulled it a bit more at Yoga.
Yesterdays Positive Affirmation. I am travelling the road to peace ,contentment and happiness.Tuck some visualisation in with the affirmation, That you are actually travelling that road and the destination is a place of peace and happines xx
Good Luck with all the WIP's -- I have --- too big a number to count but did finish 1 yesterday!
Story Bag to be revealed in a while but that project is definitely WIP!Try and do a good deed every day.0 -
lol miol...went to dentist today and was given 3 options: re-open, clean and fill, do nothing (apparently it can take a couple of weeks to diminish with such a big job) or take tooth out...went for the do nothing option as worried opening it again leaves more opportunity for bacteria to get in plus would inflame root again so will see how it is next week and take the pain juice meanwhile! Also discovered that Im anemic which may explain why Ive been feeling so cr***
taking in knitting books for woman in work and hoping I may be able to persuade her to do a bit for chariteeee!
Decided that today would be chil eve so got nice bottle of wine, yummy M&S tart and nice pud so off I go to do absolutely nothing!!
Well done on the wips psso!
Even more well done on the crochet ptb...I learned on utube and it took me a day...main difference (from knitting) is keeping the tension so that stitch doesent become unhooked! I watched this one and found it good (and slow!!). Keep us posted!
