Shaz So glad boys are being so great -- Have a lovely holiday and good luck with the heels!
Well a really slow start here after such a hectic few days which is lovely -- The shutters are down its cool, calm and peaceful and its 11.00!!!!
IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES-- BORROW IT OR GET IT FROM THE LIBRARY -- BRILLIANT !
Right must get the Orange Juice squeezed and Brunch I think started for when the sleepyheads appear.
Love to one and all xxTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
Shaz - it's great that the boys are being good. I hope you all enjoy your week in Scarborough. I've been there and it's a really lovely place. We stayed in a really unusual hotel called The Flower in Hand - the owner was a very talented artist and had lots of lovely paintings for us to admire.
Chalky - glad you're having a good time with your visitors! I shall ask our local book lady (Paperback Jan - isn't that a great name?) to look out for that book for me. At the moment I'm reading A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon (he wrote The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, which was brilliant). This book is different but just as good. I shall be sorry when I've finished it. I'm also reading Mao - The Unknown Story, by Jung Chang and Jon Halliday. It's a huge book so I'm taking my time, but it's a fascinating read. I love just about anything about Chinese history and this book is full of facts.
Well, the barn chappies are busy demolishing the last part of the barn. They were really pleased that all the straw that was inside it has been taken away; it makes their job much easier. I can't wait to see it completely gone. The next thing we need is a load (about 5 tons) of topsoil, so I shall have to ask our local mayor again - he seems to be able to solve most problems for the commune! Once the chaps have finished, I'll take some photos - we already had a big view from the back of the house - with the barn gone, it will be even bigger. Looking out on it is very good for the soul!
The sun is shining and it's already very warm. DH is out quoting on a job; now that he's officially registered as self-employed, he's picking up more and more work, which is great. It will keep the pennies rolling in and I get some much-needed uninterrupted time so that I can get on with my own things! Besides the boring old housework, there's a lot more I want to achieve this year.
On Tuesday, I have to visit a local office to pick up the next piece in our red tape jigsaw, so that will get us a step closer to being able to go back to see everyone in the UK.
Jean - hope you are feeling much better now you're taking medicine!
Well, I'd better go - I have a chicken to joint!
Have a great day, everyone.

Hi everyone
Pippa - have a lovely time!
Seakay - mohair is great to work with as long as it doesn't need unpicking! I have two huge 1000 gm balls of a mohair type wool, one in a Wedgwood blue and the other in a lovely caramel colour that are just crying out to be made into shrugs or something like that, but I keep putting off using it because it's so fine. It's not suitable for babies or animals, though. Perhaps I will start one off as a project just to dip in and out of, in between easier makes.
F1 - thanks for your update!
So far, I've just done a couple more snakes (I have quite a few now that need eyes and tongues!), and one and a half Mrs Twins squares - I thought I'd do one for each of her current challenges. I've finished a Tropical one and will start a Cupcake one this evening. I love the challenge of coming up with a design for the squares!
Well, the barn is no more - or, rather, it's all been taken down and the last few upright timbers are being sawn to fit into the trailer. I can't believe what a difference it's made to the garden, and how useful the whole operation has been for quite a few people - us, the two farmers who have shared the straw, the chaps who have bought the barn (they have gained around €3,000 worth of timbers for €200 plus the hours they have worked on dismantling it, the local pig farmer who took the wood that the others didn't want, and someone else locally who has asked what we were doing with all the old bits of metal that came out of the barn, which he's just taken off in a trailer, and which has saved us having to dispose of it. He will use what he can and sell the rest for scrap; as we just haven't got the time to deal with it, we were only too pleased for him to take it. As a bonus, our beloved willow tree that cracked in half last year and had to be treated professionally in order to be saved, now has light all around it - the barn was right up close to it so that it only really grew on one side. DH is really pleased with how the whole operation has gone and, because the chaps who have bought the barn are tree surgeons, they took it down with the minimum of noise or hassle to the neighbours. So that's one more thing we can tick off our list!
Well, DH has just come in from helping them (secretly, he's been enjoying all this 'man's' work!), so I'll make them another drink before they leave.

Good Morning to one and all and lots of gentle thoughts if your hands are overflowing right now!
Firstly Thank You so much for all the ideas for the Princess. F1 I would love that pattern that is so kind of you --- I will PM my address in the Uk. We arrive back home on the 6th May ( Where is this year going to !! ) So the princess will be started then. I want to knit a few as I hate the idea of the stereotypyical blonde hair blue eyed princesses. So I hope the pattern is easy!! I thought I would make 1 with bright ginger/auburn hair!
Having a wonderful time with DS and DDIL and today we are going out adventuring with a picnic!
Kathy So glad everything went so well with the barn. I can remember it so well !
