Hi Kinsey,
Action men are fine for boys as long as they're not dressed in combats. Great idea for tracksuits - other ideas - ski suits, football gear, swimsuits/beachwear, or just even just nice wooly trousers/sweater/ bobble hat.
If you plan to post to me (I'll pm you with the address) don't underestimate the cost of posting a doll. As an alternative, you could make up sets of clothes and post them by themselves. It's sometimes nice to put a couple of different clothes changes with a doll.
I have a few barbie dolls at home that need dressing, so any barbie clothes would be good too.
Another idea that is floating around in my mind is to dress up a tennis ball into a spider or octopus, with a sort of open crochet cover and dangly legs. It hasn't come to the prototyping stage yet, but if anyone is willing to run with it, feel free! (We get lots of tennis balls donated, and they can be bought quite cheaply too.)0 -
HI everyone from lovely sunny and warm France! Hope it's warm where you are!
Update on my BIL - he has actually started chemo this week. He is having two sessions this week, then tests to see how it is working, then more chemo in five weeks time, that session for three months. He is feeling really well so I hope this doesn't bring him down; my sister says he's back to running up the stairs instead of struggling just to walk up them, and that's so good to know. He says the chemo unit is really good - clean, calm and relaxing, and the nurses go out of their way to make the patient feel as calm and comfortable as they can. He was dreading it but doesn't any more. Fingers crossed. I'll let you know how things go.
ISOM - hope you get some time to breathe! Hugs to the new baby!
Puppetlady - I shall add your name and totals to our spreadsheet. I see from your sig that you take friendship bracelets - what size do they need to be? They sound like another useful thing to make with oddments of wool. I also like the octopus idea - I shall look in the grandchildrens' toy box and see if I can find a tennis ball!
Anyway, I have loads of chores to do this morning, and errands to run this afternoon, so I'd better get a wiggle on.

Hope you all have a great day!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Hi Kathy
Thr friendship braclets can be any size to fit a child - our age ranges are 2-4, 5-9 and 10-14, so that gives some scope.
The ones I make are made from stranded embroidery thread but you could use wool too.
I had a blog post about them - httpcolon//puppetystuffdotblogspotdotcom/2010/06/frienship-bracelets.html
(I'm still not allowed to post links, but look back to June 2010 and you'll find it.) The threads are about 18" long to start. They take quite a while to make but I often keep one in the kitchen and work on it while I'm cooking the dinner, waiting for the spuds to boil or whatever. Keeping those hands busy!
Maybe you have some nice patterns yourself for friendship bracelets.
Have a nice day. Dry here and mild but cloudy.

Right, lunch time and I am trying to catch up with loads of emails, forums etc, then back to the polytunnel - which I have to say resembles a bit of a sauna and will only get hotter this afternoon when I return.

MOST importantly my fingers are firmly crossed for DBIL Kathy-- I am so pleased he seems to have so much more vigour -- may it sustain him if the going gets tough with the treatment. xxx
Pippa lovely to have you back -- Did you have a lovely time- Where did you go and what did you get up to? I bet DGS was excited to see you both.!
Isom Never mind the microwave disaster what a wonderful, true friend you are -- How I wish you had been around when mine were little !
Well, Goldilocks and the 4 bears - I tried to adapt the pattern on the Operation Christmas Child for the Teddy Puppet to Crochet thinking of the boys.
Now they do make me laugh but in truth they are far too chunky -- I kept trying and will send these 4 but the knitted puppets are much better IYSWIM
And then I found this gorgeous crocheted headband on this site and just tried one for the little Spanish girl called Salome next door. She has such gorgeous curls and jet black hair.

evening all! Thanks for lovely thoughts...feet touched the floor today thankfully! Popped in to reimburse for the parts and had to argue 4 them to accept but snuck in a cuddle and them took them to buy new microwave amd took the old one to the tip so munchkin has now had his first trip to the dump at a week old with photographs duly taken by mum! Alas less a chunk of coal...more a few chunks!! Theyve kept the box for posterity and we managed a laugh about it today! wish she'd had the camera when v and I peered into the smoky box - would have been a good one!

kathy, fingers crossed for bil, hope the chemo goes well
isom, i've set fire to a microwave in the past, things we forget eh?
i went to pam's one day last week, for coffee and cake, and printed off loads of patterns, some for myself, and some for charity. not done much knitting this week, as had problems at home, which have totally exhausted me, its an effort to even dress myself right now, got an appointment with josh's doctor on fri, about his meds, and i go see my mental health nurse next week, about my own, tho there is not much she can do, as i'm already on max dose, and most of time, i function quite well
hugs all

Hi everyone
Chalky - I think the teds are lovely; really cute!
ISOM - hope you enjoy your time off work; what a hectic week you've had!
Shaz - thinking about you and hoping your visit with the nurse next week goes well.
Thanks for all your good wishes about BIL's chemo; it's still very early days and we are all waiting with bated breath to find out how it goes, but there's no doubting how positive and almost defiant he is about the illness. It's typical of his attitude to most things and has carried him through lots of tough times in the past.
Well, we have friends calling in for morning coffee (and cakes!) this morning and this afternoon we actually have our appointment to chase up our health cover so we are keeping our fingers crossed. I have a folder full of practically every piece of paper we've ever owned, but it doesn't matter how many documents you take to any office in France, the one they say they really need is the one you didn't take! As soon as it's sorted (and I DO hope they get on with it) we can plan our trip back home to meet the new baby, Megan, and catch up with everyone else. It feels like it's been years since we went back and I'm really starting to get twitchy now!
I posted off the presents I've made for Megan and her big sister, Summer. I've taken some photos of the things I've made and will get them on Flickr later on today if I get time. I'm working on snakes and friendship bracelets for Op Christmas Child, and something for my eldest two grandchildren that I can post off to them if we don't see them before Easter. DGS loves lemurs, bless him, (it's really difficult to find lemur-ish pressies for him!) but I can't seem to find the right amigurumi crochet pattern for one, so I've found one for a robot that I think he'll like; DGD1 just loves pandas, and there are plenty of patterns for them so that won't be a problem.
One of these days, I might just update my blog; I haven't blogged since New Year's Day because I just don't get the spare time - I actually wonder nowadays how I ever found the time to go out of the house to work!
Well, I can hear the kettle singing my song. Will catch up later.
