Hi all, been out in the garden this morning as the sun was shining- well it still is but I`ve had enough bending up and down for today and the brown bin is full ready for collection tomorrow :T

Puppetlady - Hello and welcome , hope you enjoy being part of our group. I spent ages trying to find unstuffed toys for boys but as you say there isn`t much out there. Might have a go at the snakes though. I`ll put up the link for you so that it`s easy to find.

    http://puppetystuff.blogspot.com/2010/05/snakes-free-knitting-pattern.html

I`d better not let my grandson see any snakes lying about, or he`ll be off home with them !

Finished a preemie sleepsack last night. Did it in pink and only realised while I was sewing the sleeves up that I`d done the buttonholes on the boys side - what a twit, I just don`t know what`s going on in my head at the moment. Never mind, I`m sure that will be the last thing folk will worry about when it has to be used.:(

Off to sit down with a cuppa and the wool for a wee while. Back to work tonight so no knitting till much later, been lovely this past week sitting knitting every evening.

    Back soon.

Oh Lovely, lovely ,lovely --- Welcome Janet akas Puppet Lady
Well we love new members and new obsessions -- sorry I meant projects. I can see a bed/den/nest/pit of snakes evolving as I type.

I also feel so much better about my oversight with starting everyone off on ( there is no collective noun for a group of ) Purses!

Well done with the painting Kathy mine looks like Niagra Falls ( Somewhat on purpose as it would rob me of hooky time!) Doh is far too particualr to pass my efforts-- Same goes for filling the dishwasher too!

Elaine -- Sorry you are being disturbed by horrible work! Is little J nearly walking!

Just done our 1 mile walk -- 4 times round the "oldies" exercise track so am going to carry on with my little puppet.

Hello Pippa S --- Lovely to see you back and so hope you had a lovely time and Doh as well of course x
Try and do a good deed every day.

Thank you all for your welcome.

Chalky - I make my teddy puppets just like the clowns - just knit the head straight up for about 14 rows. When sewing up, just pinch the corners in to make ears. I plan to post this on the blog sometime for the OCC folks.

Kathy and Elaine : good luck with the snakes, and thanks for your warm welcome.

Just another point to make about 'fillers' for Operation Christmas Child - hand knitted stuffed toys are not accepted by OCC, because some countries are very touchy about what might be inside them, and stop the whole truckload of shoeboxes if they are found. I know it sounds crazy but those are the rules. Sorry.

Welcome back, Pippa; hope you had a lovely time! You might not have caught up with the news (although I've barely stopped talking about it!) but my latest grandchild arrived last Wednesday - a gorgeous little girl called Megan, who weighed 8lbs 12ozs.

Anyway - I tried a crochet snake pattern that I didn't like because it was too small but, if you look here http://www.flickr.com/photos/10757367@N03/, you'll see I've invented one that I think is a good size for a little boy. It does not need stuffing which makes it ideal for Operation Christmas Child; the stuffing in the head comes from the yarn ends one it's made!

    Here's how I made it:

    Ssss the Snake!

DK yarn in two different colours but worked together.
Red wool for the eyes and tongue

Ch 3, work 8 dc into 3rd ch from hook
Row 1: Work 2 dc into each st around(4dc)
Next: Work 60 ch, turn, then 1hdc into each of the next two chs, then dc all the way back up to the head and fasten off. Use the yarn ends to stuff the head, then oversew the head to contain the yarn ends.
Next: use red wool for the eyes and the forked tongue.

This was my practice one (I may put it in DH's packed lunch tomorrow!) but I will make sure the eyes are neater on the others I make.

Puppetlady - will this type of snake be acceptable?

I hope I've explained it well!

It looks absolutely fine, in fact very similar to my knitted ones! Well done! (You can make those curly as well, the option is mentioned in my pattern.) My snakes are usually about 14-16 inches long, but it dosn't really matter how big they are.

If you wanted to you could make a longer tongue using just a chain. Once you've attached it to the head, just snip off the tail end and split the wool so that it frays.

    Thanks for this crochet pattern.

Hope your DH doesn't get too much of a fright when he opens his lunch box.

    Thanks for the PM Chalky.

How lovely to see you puppetlady, would you send me your address please? I've been racking my brains for things for boys too. What about action men that can be picked up cheaply at car boots or charity shops and some knitted clothes for them? Or are they considered war related? (could be dressed in track suits).

    Welcome home Pippa S.

evening all; sorry been awaol...life getting in the way!
The baby arrived a week today and finally got a cwtch yesterday; they kept him in a few days as it was taking them a while to get the hang of feeding. Had a lovely bonding session with him yesterday with my mum while mum & dad had a much needed snooze. Total disaster as being helpful sterilised the bottles, pump etc in and left it to ping...not realising until an hour later when daddy came down that the microwave was still on and had melted everything...£120 quids worth of essential booby juicing equipment and the shops shut 10 mins ago...nightmare. Course said I would replace it first thing but was worried how they would get through the night...anyway they did and thanfully found replacement parts online so will pay for those and theyre a much less breath taking £35! Anyway...he is absolutely gorgeous! Perfect, tiny and still likes to scrunch up Im smitten! Got a few days off thurs-mon so will get a couple of nights in for them as know how desperate sleep becomes when you dont have any.
Other than that been ridiculously busy and had to do a presentation to the same guy who did my disciplinary hearing but he was lovely and went out of his way to welcome me as we walked in and as we left which was v thoughtful...said it was good to see him in more positive circumstances!! All a bit stressful though and pleased thats done...then babysitting which went ok. In short am alive and well but tired and have a few worky dilemmas to get my head round but will be ok...enjoying a g&t which is much appreciated!
Pippa lovely to see you back.
Must sort wool for new recruit forget today and want to strike while irons hot!
chalky hows mil doing? Is she enjoying the sun?
hang in there with decorating miol...your vision will come to fruition soon!!
