    Hi everyone

I've been having PC problems - something to do with AVG, I think. It's made the computer really slow and it's driving me mad. It took me twenty minutes to gt things moving on here! I think I shall have to go on the techie thread to get some advice.

Anyway, yesterday was another typical day in France. Time wasted in the morning when I went shopping - not the shopping itself, just the slow slow queues at the tills because no-one here is in any rush, then a red tape afternoon that went on forever, again because no-one is in any hurry. Today I really do hope to get the update done.

I haven't read all the posts yet so will do that a bit later.

The day at the farm was incredibly busy but very frustrating because they haven't really got things set up properly yet. The cafe bit doesn't have a proper serving area, a sink, or even a proper water supply, so it meant a lot of running about. I even had to search for ages for a tray to carry things with! It was just like Fawlty Towers! It didn't help that they had people booked in for lunch and most of them had to wait for tables because other people were still drinking their coffee! The shop was busy, too, and I had to keep squeezing past the customers just to fill the kettle - oh, it's hard to describe but I was so glad to get back home!

I did manage to pick up some more books from the lady here who sells them, and we also had a supplier of British goods so I was able to get some things that I needed, including some proper Cheddar cheese. The French cheese here is lovely but it all seems to make the fridge smell, so I was longing for some English cheese! Plus I got some HP sauce, some Marmite, and some Cadbury's chocolate. It's surprising how many things you find you really miss when you can't get them! Some of the things I can get here but at vastly inflated prices, usually at least twice the price! I also bought some greetings cards from another stall and I'm really pleased with them. They're a bit more expensive than they would be back in the UK but definitely a lot cheaper than French ones (which are just not nice!), and they sell online, too, so a very useful contact.

The farm owners had three pigs worth of meat products ready for selling, which was just as well because they had plenty of customers. They are finding it very hard work, though; I don't know how they keep going physically, and they are both looking exhausted and anxious. They've been telling me about the red tape and it's horrendous. It's a shame because their produce is so popular but they're not enjoying or benefitting from all the hard work. I'm a bit worried about what they will do. They're such a lovely couple but it's wearing them out.

I haven't done any woolly stuff for the last couple of evenings. I need to finish the set I'm making for the new baby because it's not long to go before it arrives, so I will try and set aside some time for that.

DH's plastering in the spare bedroom is now on hold because he has frozen shoulder. He gets it now and again and the only thing he can do is apply ice packs and give it time. He has a job starting next Thursday converting a room into a utility room in a local hotel/restaurant. It involves digging the floor out, so I hope he's better by then! He'll be with someone else so he won't have to do it all on his own. They went to look at the job yesterday morning and, by the time he'd come back home, he'd had a five course lunch! I don't know whether he'll be getting that every day while he's working there!

WEll, I've waffled on a bit here so I'd better go and put the kettle on again.

Will have a read of all the posts I've missed and come back later.

Hope you all have a great day.

I did a preemie body warmer, I think the pattern was from ray of hope and the button band was included in the body part all you need to do to finish it is sew buttons on, nice and simple. When I get home will try to find the pattern.

now do you talk back proper words or make noises at them? cause my OH laughs cause i talk to my chickens but I make the same noise as they do. In the morning as i walk up to the coop I call them (in chicken noises) and they answer me back and you can hear them jump off the perch and thud on to the floor.
  • Anyone get their bargin wool at lidls today?? I have to go after work fingers crossed there is any left.

Morning all, hope everyone is feeling better than poor f1 widow,
Big hug for you J - what did you do to your leg/foot ? Or is it a mystery like my dodgy hip a couple of weeks ago - if you`re like me it would have been a relief if someone had come along with a rusty saw and hacked it off !!

For the bodywarmer band, I would just cast on an extra few stitches on the fronts and knit it all at the same time, just do a few rows extra when you`ve finished the front shaping and then stitch up the wee bit in the centre neck. I often do that as I can`t be bothered with faffing about with bands either.
Keep thinking I should put stuff on ebay as well and get rid of it. I know it`s easy to buy stuff, too bloomin` easy, - that`s why my house is full of clutter- but never tried selling. Might have to seriously think about it.

Hmmm, wonder if I should aquire a BIG van or maybe an artic lorry would be better, and load it up with stuff to come and sell to the ex-pats in France ? Be a bit different from the Brits coming over to the big hypermarkets and loading up with cheap vino etc.:)

Kathy, once they get more organised your farming friends should be less exhausted. Good that their products are proving popular though.

Sock knitter, glad to see that you might be getting some real help now :T

Well, one set of needles has prem hats on just now and a twirly scarf on another set. Still no joy with the ivory brushed dk or funky fur type yarn but I`ll keep looking - bound to be some out there somewhere. No hurry yet.

Bright and sunny here today so off to hang out the washing. Little J was sick last night so plenty of that today.:(

    Have a good day everyone.

Mioliere - a little dish of bicarbonate of soda in the fridge can help with smells. Alternatively if you have an unheated room with airflow most cheese just needs to be cool not cold - used to keep smelly Normandy cheese on the window of the downstairs lavatory with the window open a crack. Doesn't stop all smells but no cross contamination of other flavours!
f1widow - you could do an extra 4 or 5 stitches on each front in garter stitch for a button band - not quite as firm as a sewn on one but much easier and baby garments not worn for long so should be fine.
Still quite tired today from exertions on Monday and Tuesday, such as they were, but it's all relative. Have another cat blanket on the crochet hook at the moment. Nearly at the end of suitable stash oddments now so am allowed to start looking at purchases again!
    Have a good day all

oh blast, i have just lost my long post ... i think i am tired.

hello everyone from another wonderful, sunny day here in france, its 5pm and the temp is still around 22 degrees, not bad, is it.

jean, my mil gave me a lesson on how to thread the machine, what i have forgotten to do was buy some cotton when in the uk, have not found any here yet, but who knows.

kathy, you are so right about the price of stuff here - the other day i looked at the price of marmite and it was nearly €5 for the small jar - i go through a big jar in 2 weeks, if i dont have it for breakfast, if i do, it lasts one week. i wonder if our local lidl would consider stocking some of the stuff that i used to purchase in the uk, weetabix (own brand) muesli (own brand, not the sugary stuff) and route 66 (own brand marmite) - they seem to have loads of english sweets and stuff, so i was wondering if they might branch out? what do you think?

socky, well done of finding someone who is willing to fight your corner, go girl, give it to them.

oh well, OH has a migraine (the first in ages) so i had better go and check up on him - dont know what has brought it on, but think it might be the nasty solicitors who have welfare power of attorney for our elderly aunt who are spending her money and not worrying at all about her welfare and the fact that she seems to be very depressed. oh well, another fight and another day.

    off for some hooking methinks.

    have a lovely evening all

  • Hi Everyone!

I'm just popping in to tell you that SIBOL has had a letter printed on the letter page of 'Crochet Today'.
The magazine is on sale in the USA, my Flickr friends have told me. It might be a few weeks before it
reaches our shelves here in the UK. I didn't quite reach the 'Star Letter' winning a years subscription but
at least our Group was mentioned. It mentioned I had made 17 Blankets, its now 53! So things have moved on.
Its been ages since I sent the email up.

Also....I hope you will pop over and have a look at No. 53 'Grape Jelly'. on SIBOL
    www.sunshineinternationalblanketsoflove.blogspot.com

I am just finishing off the 'Young At Heart' Blanket so I hope you will keep looking out for that one.

Yes thank you I did see the Lidl yarn for Sale at my Mothers house this afternoon. She had a leaflet there.

Of course we have been featured in 'Lets Get Crafting!' too this month.

You'd think I would be inundated with squares from these magazines, but no that's not the case! I rarely have anyone say they have
    come from the magazines.

Have a lovely evening everyone. My Twin daughters are 25 today! So it's Birthday Celebrations.

    Hugs Suex
