phillippa gregory books are always good if you like history fiction, one of my fave by her is the constant princess, its based on catherine of aaragon. or the other boleyn girl. if modern stuff is more your thing id recommend anita shreve, light on snow or body surfing are two of hers that spring to mind. im reading divas dont knit (LOL just reread that and had to comrrec the typo divs dont knit. i do so that was definately wrong:rotfl:) im really enjoying that its by gil mc someone, pippa s kindly sent me that, ive been saving it as my christmas holiday read. cant remember who its by but the lost art of keepig secrets was really good and the friday night nighting club. should i stop now:o

  • Hi Chalky,

I just wanted to tell you about the lady who owns my local wool shop.,she is Canadian and does lots of airline travel and we were discussing wool for travel recently. She said the safest bet is to take circular needles and/or wooden crochet hooks. She also said that she has never had a problem with these on long haul flights,it tends to be 'our' domestic flights that are problematic, hope this helps and you manage some wooly time during your flight.

Wouldn't dream of giving you my lists - I read just about anything except the bodice rippers, slushy ones too and certainly no Sci Fi or Frightening ones. You just trawl through and see what you think.

I have previously been on flights with the plastic childrens knitting needles and the plastic crochet hook...never had a problem good luck on your big trip. Will pop in later and read and take in the postings - I need to be down at the farm I can hear cows moo-ing from here - probably frozen water, L8er!
You all have a great day.

chalky - not sure if i missed something, but if you have a kindle, look at the free books that they have. also, the 12 days of kindle (on the amazon website) has quite a few books going for only £1 per book. its really easy (as my credit card and my kindle can confirm). i have about 130 books on my kindle at the moment and i have only spent £30 on books, and the most expensive of them has been £4.49!

with regards knitting needles, i believe that you can take short plastic/wooden needles and crochet hooks as long as they are in the presence of wool - not unaccompanied!

hope that everyone is well, will pop in later when my laptop has a bit more "juice".

Thank you ,you lovely lot -- Lots of things to look at there and lots of recommendations to peruse. I have read the Splendid Suns Book after reading the Kite Runner and I did howl. And Kathy I thought I was one of the only people to read all of the Clan of the Cave Bear -- Loved Number 2 best and I think about the heroine, Ayla, all the time as we are travelling in Spain. Thank you so much for taking the time to help.
As for travelling and wool I am taking 2 pairs of plastic needles. 1 pair in my luggage and 1 in my hand luggage. So got everything covered there. I have also managed to borrow a bamboo hook but it is 4.5. Now I have copies of my favourite baby hat and bootees and in the sales today ( when I was looking for a bamboo hook!)there was some gorgeous Wendy Mode wool down to 99p which will be perfect. There are lots of babies due next year and that wont take up too much space or cover the passenger next to me.
Lots of love to one and all, posters, lurkers, newbies and all wool lovers x
Doh is being extremely tactful and not commenting on my wool stash
DDIL HAS JUST ASKED for the now famous pattern for the knitted fingerless gloves-- I know my pattern is in Spain and I have just spent ages looking -- Hopeless! I think it was originally posted by Pfungi but is loved by us all -- Link please
