Good morning, everyone. I woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep - my mind is doing overtime these days, and everything feels a bit disjointed; I'm worrying about loved ones, and longing to be back in the UK.
Pippa - I feel guilty because I've just realised I haven't done the update for a couple of weeks, so your update is not too late! I'll try and spend a morning on bringing everything up to date this week. How nice that your DH was able to help the people across the road; the last thing anyone needs right now is a frozen pipe.
Shaz - hope things are a little less painful today. Has the dentist recommended anything, like hot salt water rinses? Excellent for helping things to heal.
ISOM - hope things are little easier where you are. I've been following the news and can't believe how bad the weather is all over the UK.
Happycrafter - I've 'approved' you on Wooligans, so now you can see all the lovely photos on there! I'm so glad your mum has battled through breast cancer, and is now in remission. It is indeed a horrid disease. I have a very close friend here who had to have a breast removed eight years ago, and she is now fighting fit, and we can't keep her still for more than five minutes! I hope you get all your woolly stuff finished in time for Christmas! I have loads of things to get done but, as I'm not posting anything until the weather has cleared up in the UK, I have a bit more time than I thought.
Chalky - full marks to you and DH for resourcefulness; a great tree and £30 saved! We didn't even look at the prices of trees here. I have a little one that I grew from a sapling; it's kept outside in a terracotta pot, but has now been brought in for Christmas. It's about 18" tall so very tiny, but we will be decorating that later on this morning. Normally, I decorate in quite a big way but this year we're not feeling too Christmassy, and we won't be here for Christmas day, anyway, so our decorating will just be a token effort. I just need to find the trimmings and lights - we've moved everything around several times this year while the renovating has been going on, so I need to have a good look for them.
Well, I had an email late last night from my sister to say that they were still waiting for BIL's test results. She has phoned the hospital several times and either they're engaged, or she's had to leave a message, and no-one's got back to her, despite her stressing how important it is that they get the results. She says she will go to the hospital herself but the weather is so bad there (they're in Somerset), that I'm really hoping she doesn't have to; the thought of her driving is really worrying. I feel like phoning the hospital myself, I'm so angry that they are keeping them waiting. Fingers crossed, they will get the results today.
Yesterday morning was spent ordering up materials for finishing off the hallway, and choosing (or trying to choose!) floorcovering for the dining room part of the kitchen. We can't make up our minds what we want or, rather, we each want something different but, usually in cases like this, I get to make the final choice because I'm not the one who's colour blind!
I had my 'flu jab yesterday afternoon and an unexpected MOT from the doctor; I think he must have had a quiet afternoon ahead, because he was quite happy to sit and chat. He doesn't speak any English but, apart from a few moments of 'je suis desolee, c'est difficile' from me I think we understood each other, apart from when he asked how many children I have - I think I said twelve instead of two, because he looked surprised and asked me again! Anyway, at least I've had the jab - if I get a heavy cold or 'flu, it goes straight to my chest and leaves me with a cough that can last for weeks, and I could do without that.
Well, time to put the kettle on again. Keep warm and safe wherever you are, and thank you so much for your kind thoughts and words; your support makes such a difference.

Great tree Chalky, what a good idea.
Hope SIL has heard from hospital by now mioliere, and thanks for information about salt water rinse, my son has to have the same thing as Shaz on Jan 10th. Poor boy can't eat properly and he loves christmas food, plus he's very slim anyway, I'll ring him and tell him wht you've suggested tonight.

Had a lovely long hot shower earlier which left me tingling all over and feeling nice and relaxed.
Was hoping we were'nt going anywhere today but OH has other ideas
kathy - no probs you've had more to think about than the figures.I did'nt mean to rush you I just wanted to clear the decks ready to start the New Year with a clean sheet IYKWIM :xmassmile I hope your sister hears something today:)
shaz - as kathy said salt water mouth wash is better than anything, stings a bit but helps clear mouth ulcers and sore gums, I hope it heals up for you soon
happycrafter- yes cancer is a very cruel disease, my aunt had a breast removed in the 1950's, luckily it never recurred and she had another 30years happy with us all. After seeing your list of WIP's I had a look through mine and decided to get cracking and sort them out, had a bit of a surprise at how many were in the bagso last night I made a start with a jumper I began early last year, only got the sleeves to do so should'nt take long.....hmmmm yes well we will see
chalky - love the tree very OS;)
nice warming (((hugs))) for all today

Hi everyone and, first of all, Happy Birthday to Jean! I hope you have the most fantastic day today.:bdaycake:_party_:j:hello::beer:
Re the salt water rinse. The best way is to have the water as hot as you can stand, and rinse as often as you can. It doesn't taste too good but is just about the best thing to help healing.
Well, DH is now putting in new wall lights on the landing. He's been severely told off because, whenever he does electrics, I have to turn everything off, including my computer, while he finds out which switch on the consumer board needs to be isolated. This time, I told him to mark each one so that, next time, he can turn off what he needs to without affecting the complete running of the house! Why does it take a woman to point out the b******g obvious?!
I hope you are all keeping as warm and safe as possible.
Still no news from the hospital for my sister and BIL but I hope that they hear something today. I can't keep phoning them up because - well, I'm sure you will all understand. I don't want to take precious time together away from them. Thank you, again, for all your kind words.
