Busy knitting bootees as DDIL'S 2 sisters are both having babies any time now.
sHAZ I hope your mouth gets better really soon.
F1 -- gLAD oh GOT HOME SAFELY.
Love to everyone else -- hope you are mananging to keep warm and safe.
We did manage to go shopping this morning --- an absolute necessity ans it wasn't too bad .
This afternoon we considered going out to get the Christmas tree--- we considered the cold-- we considered the ice and we considered the price for under 2 weeks and instead went into the garden and cut a bough off one of the spruces and wedged it in the Christmas tree stand and decorated it I will take a picture to show you later as it is certainly full of initiative!!!!:rotfl::rotfl:

I am thrilled really as I love real trees but £30+ for under 2 weeks is just too much -- Good old MSE
Off to cook a small gammon for tea aspoor MIL needs feeding as she can't get out .
    Love to all
Try and do a good deed every day.

That's good advice Chalky, and well timed. Having a few problems with family, pick any combination you can think of and double it. Expect it will get sorted one way or another. And it's minus 9c. Roll on spring.

morning all - its warmed up a bit down here in toulouse, however, the wind is picking up and its a little chilly to say the least (at least i have my lovely thermal undershirts - they are hideously ugly and too big, however, they are warm and thats the way i like them).

socky, glad to see you here, sorry that the mouth is giving you so much hassle, hope that you feel better soon.
chalky - well done, first and last! its a pain not being able to get around easily, but if you are safe, warm and have some food supplies, batton down the hatches and wait it out with a good book/some knitting/crocheting and the computer!

welcome to the newbies, how nice it is that someone else has joined us - sorry that it has taken me so long to welcome you - my head doesn't work so well in the cold!

oh well, i have done my exercise for the morning, have had a shower and all that, now i have to do some work and then make lunch! we normally have something with eggs from our neighbour, but the chickens have gone on strike due to the cold - so its shop bought eggs for lunch today - not so nice! but i think i will make some soup for dinner, yum! then i am sure i will make some time for some hooky stuff, yippee!!!

have a lovely day everyone and keep safe and keep warm and try not to slip on the ice!

    Hi everyone

I don't think I came on here at all yesterday. We were busy in the morning, and then I spoke to my sis on the phone and, sadly, it really isn't looking hopeful. The doctors have said that there's no need for BIL to have a biopsy, that they know for sure that it's the thing we've been dreading. They are still trying to get his jaundice cleared up so that they can start the chemo, which he is desperate to get going. As for time, they've said six months without the chemo, twelve months possibly with it, maybe even longer depending on how effective it is. It's heartbreaking to have to talk about such things with my sister - I can't believe this is going on, really; none of us can. He's planning a 'maybe my last' party and hoping that there will be more than one, bless him - his sense of humour is undiminished, which makes it even more poignant. They are expecting results from further tests that he had on Friday, and hoping that the jaundice levels are starting to come down. My sis has heard that acupuncture can help, so she's researching that at the moment. He itches all the time and it's the jaundice causing that; she said she can't bear to see how it distresses him, so anything that can help that will be great. He's eating better and has even put on a pound in weight, so at least he is starting to build up for the chemo. Their DS1, DIL, and two grandchildren are going to be there with them on Christmas day and have said they will cook dinner for them, so I'm thrilled about that. They will have the best day they can.

Well, I'm sorry that this is not a cheerful post but it helps to be able to get it down on paper, so to speak.

Chalky - love the tree idea; that's true moneysaving! HOpe the weather gets a bit easier for you, though.

Shaz - hope you feel a lot better soon, you poor thing.

Kinsey - lots of hugs to you.

DPixie - chilly here, too, but not as cold as last week. The wind has picked up, too, which doesn't help.

Well, I must get on with a bit of lunch. I have an appointment for a 'flu jab this afternoon, having been through the typically French rigmarole of going to the doctor for the prescription, picking the vaccine up from the pharmacy, then waiting for a nurse to come and inject me; that bit didn't happen for some reason, even though it was arranged, so the doctor will do it for me this afternoon.

I hope you all keep safe and warm.

mioliere so sorry about BIL, can't even imagine how your poor sister is feeling. Here's hoping they get on with the chemo and it does the trick. Certainly puts my problems in perspective. Thanks for hugs, gratefully received and returned.

ISOM you never said a truer word about families, though it doesn't HAVE to be christmas. big sigh. Saw some weather pics of where you are, OMG, stay in the bath and keep topping up the hot water for as long as you can, take a book and a cup of coffee with you :)

    Dpixie aren't thermals wonderful!

shame you cant knit in the bath cause thats where i would be most of the time!

still trying to finish off christmas knitting before saturday...

    i have to finish off:
red shawl in big softy wool £7 from instore
jumper for nephew in mega chunky found stash in attic
I offered to finish/restart scarf for mum which is made from ladder ribbon yarn never knitted with it before so should be fun!

plus I have to make sweets for pressies and some chutneys

hope everyone else is well, sorry to hear what is going on in everyones lives and sending positive thoughts to you all. this time 2 years ago my mum was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer luckily with chemo she is now in remission it is such a horrible disease and touches everyones lives.
  • kathy, sorry to hear the bad news about your bil, certainly puts my problems in perspective, big hugs for all of you and your family.
very cold here, minus ten this morning, but had to go into town, so while i was there i rescued some more wool from my friends wool stall, some more king cole dreams, it knits up lovely and is very warm, i'm currently wearing a cardigan that i knitted with it, plnning a jumper with the new lot
had a look in waterstones, and bought crochet for dummies, i can do granny squares, but not much more, so i shall have a look at that later.
i didnt have any teeth out last week at teh dentist, i had my gums cut to remove a piece of tooth left over from a tooth out years ago, that started to give me problems a few months ago, the cut had to be larger than usual as they had to go in at a sideways angle, as it was very close to a nerve, anyway stitches out tommorrow, cant wait, then the pain should ease.
off to finish some toys ready for saturday,
big hugs all, and stay safe in these awful weather conditions xxx
loves to knit and crochet for others

    Hi all:santa2:

snowing again so whats new.... but got all the essentials to hand food ,drink, good book and most important loads of the woolly stuff :rotfl:

Have been shopping today armed with lists from all over the place it was bad on the roads but OH took it steady and we managed it ok.
All credit to Morrisons they had salt/gritted their car park so it was'nt too bad on there.
Went to Mums with her shopping, put it all away, made her a drink, then came home as it started to snow again.

The oldies over the road had a frozen pipe yesterday so OH did what he could and told them to leave the heating ON and not keep turning it off. We took their shopping over and then he sorted out some pipe lagging and went back over and fitted it for them.

:wave:happycrafter - hello and welcome you will love it in here, your list sounds like mine, I really must get it all sorted :D
chalky - that tree sounds interesting, good news for DD that she will have her friend with her over Christmas,:T
kathy - I am so sorry to hear your news about BIL, but it's a good sign that his eating is returning, that will help get his strength back, and a party sounds like a good idea,
shaz - hope your mouth heals up soon....(that sounds odd but YKWIM) :) are the boys ok?
kinsey - hope things ease off a bit for you soon x
ISOM - have sorted some bits and pieces of yarn out and will do my usual and wind 2 DK's together for a blanket or 2 for the cats, hope you're feeling a bit warmer now
dpixie - know what you mean about the eggs there is definitely a difference. I dont blame the hens going on strike this weather's enough to put anyone off laying :rotfl:
f1 - glad your OH arrived home safely
psso - hope your DD arrived home safely too
May - hope you are feeling a bit better now x
Shelley - ((hugs)) for you and your family

Managed to get DS1's polo, neck and chest warmer done and posted this morning he wants a hat now so I started that last night and should get it finished tonight.

Well off to see if the dinner is ready yet, bit early I know but we are both starving today for some reason

Take care and stay warm and safe everyone
