well now home as snow in Cardiff worse than work and lucky I came home when I did - can barely drive in my road which is a first since Ive lived here! Work do is off...will try to see if there is anything we can do but doubtful tbh as its only today thats been v bad so wouldnt have given 24 hrs notice! Mind you mum(no sence of smell) almost blew up up a minute ago ...kettle boiling put gas out and then just lit it - I went to investigate whiff of gas...some of her dippness really is a worry sometimes as she could easily have set of an explosion off! Lovely to have her home though and for the first time in weeks weve got a lovely chilled weekend planned!

hi all from a very unhappy dpixie - i don't know what is wrong with my internet connection, but it seems that every other time i post on here, the connection fails and the post is lost.

i will cut short my last post and let you know that it was (in a nutshell) "hi everyone, hugs and best wishes to all, hope that you are all okay, safe and not too snowed in".

kathy, still sending positive thoughts to you and your family, it must be quite hard to have this hanging over you at a time like this.

our weather here is rather nice today, its about 12 degrees and the ice has all melted, the sun is shining so we are going to go for a walk and then i will sit with something woolie and work on the next little cardigan. (my SIL told me that she was having to come to london for a course, so i will try and get some jumpers ready for her to take back to south africa - smart hey!)

lots of hugs and loving thoughts to everyone, socky, have not heard from you for a while, are you and the boys okay?

speak to you all later, wifi permitting

Welcome HappyCrafter -- Lovely to see you here and I hope you stay and join us all -- I am sure there will be lots of exciting things to get involved with in 2011!
Well after a four hour delay which was no problem at all especially as we were fed with a 3 course meal for free! We arrived in Exeter to be met by DS and DDIL and DD and partner and BUSTER of course had laid on Chinese so a lovely homecoming !

4 " of snow overnight so no movement here but the sun is shining on the conservatory so absolutely gorgeous and sooooo pretty.

One drawback the order from tesco that I spent absolutely ages doing could not be delivered this morning! Still we certainly wont starve.

DDIL is here with all her woolly stuff so very relaxing
Try and do a good deed every day.
  • Thanks for the welcomes, been researching knitting patterns ready to print off at work, also reduced my mums wool mountain have some lovely baby colour wool to knit with over Christmas holidays. Just need to complete my pressie knitting first though!

hope the snow doesnt cause you all too many problems.

  • afternoon all! Hello from a sunny but icy Cardiff! Had to venture out today which was hairy to say the least -tv broke then we realised that it was the signal but now have a lovely clear tv!! Have almost finished my lucy bag and then will do a few cat blankets. Before i forget to say the cat charity were hugely grateful for the lovely blankets and said they can never have enough so keep em coming! For those who are new or havent made them they are about 20 inches square or round in double thickness wool...any pattern, color combination is fine so a good project for using up scraps!
Chalky thank goodness you are back safe - thought of you last night and was hoping plane was ok.
dp sorry that internet not great...makes you realise how much you use it doesent it!
F1 home dh gets home ok...at least with a bigger truck you have more weight so less likely to skid...

Hi everyone. It's been a busy day so far, so I'm late coming on here. I hope you are all well, and keeping safe and warm in the bad weather.

WE had a lovely day yesterday with lots of warm sunshine, woke up to an inch of snow which has all but disappeared now, so we're not doing too badly. Parts of the UK sound horrendous, though, and I really feel for those people who are having problems.

Jean - hope your afternoon tea went well yesterday!

F1 - hope DH makes it home soon. It can be a real worry, especially in such bad weather. As ISOM says, though, a truck is safer right now than a car. And thanks, yes, DH's van did pass it's pollution test, so that's another niggle out of the way.

Chalky - welcome back. I'm glad you arrived safely, even if you are stranded right now. Sounds like you had a lovely homecoming, though, with Buster in on the act, too!

DPixie - sorry to hear you are having internet problems. I know how frustrating that can be, so I hope it's sorted out for you soon. Who are you with? They will have a helpline that you could call, perhaps.

ISOM - sorry to hear about the party being called off, but better safe than sorry. I really must make another cat blanket to send to you. Right now, I can't concentrate on anything too complicated so a 20" square will be a soothing project to do. We've not seen dear Louis at all since he disappeared, but I've been thinking about him a lot now that the weather has turned so cold, and hope that, wherever he is, he is warm and well fed. As a not bad consolation, next door's huge ginger and white male seems to have taken root here, and has become part of the household. The neighbours are away a lot (quite how they can just chuck him out when they go I don't know, but he loves it here when all the fires are lit and he has food in his belly), and he's a very affectionate cat, and no trouble at all. Of course, now he's becoming bilingual, being French and learning English!

Happycrafter - glad that you've already found some wool! We love to know what other things people are knitting, besides charity items, so please feel free to post photos!

Well, I'm tidying up my office at the moment. It's become a real mess of work stuff, jewellery-making projects, Christmas wrapping, and filing, and I can't stand it any longer!

Talking of Christmas, yesterday I found some lovely things that DGS will love because they are the sort of thing he is interested in; some ammonites that were dug up just half an hour's drive from here, but are 160 million years old, and some teeth from a prehistoric shark that was dug up in Morocco, and are 95million years old. They were reasonably priced, and came with all the details in French, so I will type them up in English for him. He loves anything like that, and I'm so pleased that I found them.

Well, the grouting is almost at an end, but DH has run out of grout - with about ten tiles left to do - so he's gone to get some more. With luck, it will all be finished tomorrow.

Anyway, I'd better get on with tidying up.

Hope you are all having a good Saturday. I'm going to sit down with my crochet this evening and enjoy the end of Strictly. I've really enjoyed this series and have no idea who will win, or who I want to win! It's the only show like this that I watch because I love the dancing, the dresses, and the music - the perfect combination, and no annoying advert breaks, either! I've tried to watch the X-Factor and things like that, but they just get on my nerves, and they seem to be on forever and ever. At least once Strictly has ended, that's it until next autumn, then Saturdays can get back to normal!

  • High Tea was just perfect - they didn't quite expect the table to be groaning under the grub - but I have a Scottish reputation to keep up here, so no holds barred...they went through everything like a plague of locusts.....have to convert recipes for cheese scones, tiffin cake and the melting moments for farmers wife when they get back from their holidays. RESULT I believe. As I have had the sniffles and been EDNA all week didn't manage to go and get my hair trimmed......DH (bless his cotton socks) did it for me this morning and I have to say it isn't bad at all, he took ages to do it as I think he was frightened I might screech at him if he screwed it up. I do have three wigs so it isn't that important and hey is HAIR it GROWS AGAIN.
ISOM if you have to go out again in the rotten weather HINT FOR WALKING IN SNOW/ICE if you have some proper wool socks wear them outside over your shoes my daddy taught us that when we were kids - not that we ever worried about sliding around then.
F1 - think I am anally retentive with figures and dosh, drummed into me at an extremely early age (probably because it was TIGHT) and not helped by the fact that my chosen career was eventually banking. As Kathy said the paperwork in France is monumental and it really is best to keep on top of it (not sit on it IYKWIM).
It has snowed off and on all day but its the wet kind so no good for me playing in, also looking at our local forecast it will hopefully all disappear before DS is due here on Monday evening so keeping fingers crossed for that one. Mind you he has to get out of London, so perhaps that won't even happen. You all stay warm and safe and if you get stuck for something to do well there is always knitting, sewing or crochet.......(tongue in cheek- as I am finding other distractions at present). Enormous big cuddles for everybody.

F1 - thinking of you, and hoping that DH is home very soon. Please post on here and let us know.

Jean - glad that your high tea went so well. I wish I had been there; it sounds delicious! I think it's great that your recipes have been asked for by a Frenchwoman, too! I like the tip about the wool socks - it would be a good idea to kit everyone out with a pair for next year! In fact, you could just make slipper-type things just to cover the shoes. Maybe even those wheelchair slippers that you were making earlier this year?

Well, the snow has all gone now, and it's been raining so everything is looking really slushy.

    Keep warm and safe, everyone.
