Hi everyone
ISOM - hope your tummy is feeling a lot better today.
Shaz - so sorry that life is so challenging for you. I hope Daniel's night in the cells will have a positive effect on him. I'm glad you were able to treat yourself to some new wool.
Elaine - I hope you manage to get everything done so that you can stay in for the next few days and keep warm.
Chalky - the museum sounds lovely.
Well, it's been freezing cold here this morning but the sun has come out and the sky is blue, and I even have washing on the line! It's turned into a lovely day and I just hope it lasts. I hope everyone with snow is coping with it.
Well, with DH working all this week, the house has remained amazingly clean and tidy - it's a real luxury after months of dust, and has made a nice change for me!
I'm doing crochet as and when I can, mainly Christmas presents, but I have to keep them small and light if I'm going to be posting them from here to the UK. I'm dreading the cost of that!
I'm off to the farm again tomorrow, mainly to buy some more meat, but I will be chatting to the owners about the cafe - I think they want to get it organised so that it's open properly after Christmas.
Well, off for some lunch, I think.

Loving the Luvvies ME HEARTIES! so cute, well done you. I had phone call last evening asking for urgent fingerless gloves - well they ended up as wrist warmers from the knitting machine - far easier and quicker so did 4 pairs this afternoon, and have started a huge SNOOD too but that will take forever even tho' it's also on the machine, I have used chenille yarn and it makes me sneeze all the time and the little bits of fluff are going all over the place, will persevere till its done. Also have sorted out some curtaining for the front porch (its all glass windows and doors and it feels awfully cold out there, not sure when I will get around to putting it all through the sewing machines as I have to unpick the sets that are up to get the heading tape - what a nightmare - I know I have rolls of tape "somewhere safe", its just hiding far too well at present. DH off this weekend so I will have tons of time to keep up with the world - he has suggested I paint the one wall and the ceiling of the porch so its all fresh and lovely - I will see how I feel about that one. Off for a soft chair and a bit of hand knitting back tomorrow, you all keep cuddled in and warm.

hi there
Feeling much better thank you! Just home after a hair raising trip home from wok - icy, snow and the worst journey home ever. Really quite scary and not at all fun! Anyway here I am safe and sound. Mum will have to get a taxi to the station tomorrow cos Im not venturing out in this! Really not worth pranging the car for the sake of a fiver!
Did mean not getting wooly stuff which was a shame but again wanted to get home and will order some coles online to finish my lucy bag. Alas still no sign of the swap but my LH one arrived and is lovely! A holder for out and about things like sewing or wool/needles etc; lovely cinnamon yankee candle and a packet of jelly bellies - wonder if the santa knew that they were my faves!!
Socky sorry things so tough...do wonder whether you need to say that you need respite?
Roaming machine sounds lovely - can you do anything on it?
Chalky loving the hearties!

Afternoon peeps
We woke up to snow this morning and its bloomin freezin brrrr O I hate the cold my hands start playing up and I find it difficult to knit and that will never do :rotfl:but then I can swap over to crochet, so I can carry on with DGS's ripple blanket, he saw the ones I had made for the girls and wanted one himself.
He is on a ship in the Caribbean with DS and DIL at the moment, lucky things in all that lovely sunshine
Been over to see Mum, she is fine but feeling the cold as are we all. I have got all of the presents she asked me to get so I just hope there are no more, I hate shopping in the Christmas crowds,
Managed to finish the Maroon Jumper for L/H and there is enough wool left for a Beanie Hat so I will get started on that later.

Well the ME TIME hasn't quite happened just yet but hey I am forever hopeful! I did paint the walls and round the windows in the porch this morning - that got that job out of the way, not touching the ceiling in there, have made a start on the next set of curtains for out there as well - well get to finish them sometime. I have just had a huge fight with the knitting machine (you see ISOM its a bit like learning to play the fiddle), if I did more on it I would be better at it...but I just love to mess about and do WHAT I WANT, the outcome was the 3 metre long chenille (SP) snood right at the cast off - it just all went to RATS, anyway I have pulled it off and anchored the lot with hand stitching, now wonder if I could do a couple of big huge pompoms and gather up the ends in a bit of disguise??? Will let you know about that one. I vow never to use the chenille on the machine again as I have done nothing but cough and splutter the whole way through!. Snow has started here around lunch time but it hasn't been lying, no doubt it JUST MIGHT overnight, sledge, gloves etc all to hand for playing tomorrow. You all keep warm and cosy indoors, I am away to find a crochet hook and some nice thick wool so I can keep warm on a chair.
xx
PIPPA.S - yes its me that has been STALKING the whole of Maytaurus' family I am ashamed to say, but I was truly worried about her. Laura has promised to keep in touch - but I know she is really very busy with all the things that are going on in her neck of the woods, so if we don't hear from her for a while I will understand. The Hooligan Wooligan – age 9¾

Hello ladies! :hello: Is it ok if I come back again, well..on and offish?
I was here about 18 months or so ago and not doing too well...then lost it with the knitting due to the square sizes not coming out right.
I've got (I think) size 10 needles and DK wool.
So in plain English for someone a bit on the slow side....
How many stitches do I need to cast on? I'm not a loose knitter, but not too tight either. I am complicated though - make sense? Wish it did to me!
Thanks a lot girls.

Hi Sue-UU, I'll try to help but I just hope I can explain properly. Is that English size 10 needles? They now come in millimetres (mm) and would be very thick, but english 10 (3.25mm) are very thin. For DK wool that would be the size you would use for the ribbing at the bottom of a garment or the cuffs of sleeves, then you would change to size 8 (4mm) for the main body of the garment, so really for squares you would be better with them. To find out how many stiches you need you need to cast on about 20 stiches and knit a few rows and measure how many stiches and rows per inch or centimetres and multiply by how big you want the square to be (maths!) Keep trying, and have look on youtube for more expert instructions. Good luck.0
