Hi all - woke up early again, despite not going to bed until late. I was just about to turn the TV off last night - the Jonathon Ross show was on and I don't like him that much, but one of my all-time favourite singers, Al Green, was on and he was absolutely fantastic; if anything, his voice has got even better with age. Well worth staying up for.
Anyway, we're as ready as we can be for the VIV - the Very Important Visit! It's lovely to think that within a few hours, Chalky and I will be able to put faces to names - I am so looking forward to meeting her.
I thought I'd do a sad then happy post with a couple of photos
Sad - our poor willow tree which is now half its beautiful self but will grow again
and, happy, four successfully fledged baby swallows that have been born and raised in the barn.not a very clear photo but they look so cute. The parents have gone from twittering away in an agitated way whenever we enter the barn to becoming used to us and swooping just past our heads to get in and out, so the babies don't have any fear of us at all. We shall miss them like mad when they've all gone - in the meantime, we watch them flying around like mini Spitfires, exercising their wings. When the branch of the willow tree was threatening to fall down, it looked as if it would hit the end of the barn that they have been living in - thankfully, it just skimmed the end of it.
Anyway, I'm off for a surf - will call back later.

Kathy --- 3.46 a.m!!! If that was me I would be saying hello to visitors and promptly falling asleep!!
Well in another part of France the Chalkys' woke just after 8.30 and dozed til 9.00!!!!
But now all showered and about to put our best foot fdorward.
It's been so daft I know, but I am so looking forward to hearing Kathy's voice I have been texting and not rung so I don't spoil the surprise!!
So have lovely days everybody and of course we will let you know how everything went in Chez Mioliere very soon
Love to one and allTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
bonjour both...sure you will have a lovely natter once the initial nerves go and then poor oh's will have to entertain themselves! Poor old tree miol but lovely with birds...do they come back to same place to nest? We had a lovely week watching bbc2 springwatch...some of the fledglings are so cute on gangly legs and fluffy feathers! Unfortunately puss puts the birds off the feeder that hangs in the window!
Late night babysitting last night...more moola for wool...sorry essential items! Hoping to finish the crochet hook holder today and have cast on the baby cardi...
look forward to your exploits miol and chalky - thinking of you both!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
ISOM - just waiting for a text now to say they're at the roundabout waiting to be met! As for the swallows, they nest there every year - I like to think it's the same couple. It's been so wonderful watching them - nature at its best!
Have a good day.

evening all - chalky and kathy - i hope that you are having fun getting to know each other.
spent a lovely weekend in edinburgh with OH's aged auntie. she is such a lovely lady that spending time with her is so rewarding. however, the highlight was going for a walk in the park and then sitting down to do a bit of hooking and sun bathing only to see a group of people a little further along doing the same (hooking/knitting).
kinsey - congrats on your new arrival, i do hope that you get to play loads and loads.
isom - hope that the new project goes well. i am sorry that we did not get to see the other (now handed over project) - you should take piccies of all your work, it kinda boosts your confidence when things go wrong.
anyway, packing is going well and my little car is going to start suffering from thunder thighs if i stuff her any fuller for tuesdays journey.
have a lovely evening everyone.

Hope people have enjoyed a lovely weekend in the sun! Relatively quiet here and spent much of pm asleep. I have upped my tablets and theyre conking me out plus was late from babysitting...

Hi all - hope you are all OK?
Well, they arrived and we haven't stopped talkiing, and not all about the woolly stuff either! Chalky is every bit as nice as you'd imagine from her posts on here, very warm and friendly, and her DH is great, too. We've had a lovely time, eating, drinking (not aways the falling down stuff, though, but lots of cuppas!) and chatting away. We took them to the medieval area of our nearest town yesterday and stopped for coffee at a funny little bar, then came back and had dinner and just chatted away in the evening until everyone started feeling sleepy (especially me because I had been awake since stupid o'clock!) Chalky managed a bit more crochet that me - I was flagging by then!
It's beautiful here today; I'm so pleased that they will see this part of France in some sunshine! Not sure what their movements will be today - I know they're travelling up through France heading, eventually, for the ferry but we're in no hurry for them to go. The men seem to be getting on as well as Chalky and I, which is great.
DPixie - I can't believe how the time has gone. I remember when you said you had 44 days to go, and now you'll be leaving on Tuesday! I wish you the best of luck - if you're travelling through s w France and you want somewhere to stop for a breather, just give me a ring (I think I've pm'd you my number, haven't I?). You'll be more than welcome.
Anyway, time to lay the table for breakfast, I think!
Will call, back later. Hope you all have a great day.

oo lovely I knew you would get on well! So chuffed that youve had a lovely relaxed time!
Managed a bit of my knitting last night but not masses...still feeling quite groggy but have made a cake already today! Well actually two banana cakes! Having an allotment day with bbq. A friend of mine is muscle man so we have him for some digging and lifting. Much to do as lots of junk/rubbish to take to the tip. My dress arrived and huge dissapointment as its jersey material so back it goes as not smartBack to the drawing board me thinks...
Hope the packing going ok Dk...at least you have nice weather for it!
Ok best on as need to have a shower before i start!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Hi all, just popping in quickly to check up on the mioliere/chalky meet up.
Good to see that you got on well and that the menfolk did too.
Hope the chalkies have a safe journey home.
Off to take DD to dentist this afternoon, she`s having a large lunch just now as she`s having a couple of fillings done and could be a while before she`s able to eat again. Don`t think she`ll waste away tho`in the meantime.
DS has to go back and hopefully have his MRI scan done this evening. Took him in last week but he had to have an xray to check if there was any metal in his eyes. Used to be a mechanic and didn`t always wear safety specs.Naughty boy. Of course this knocked the schedule all to pot and he couldn`t get the scan done then.
Will be taking the Sands border with me for the waiting time - just as well I can do it without a pattern now. Have done a few (green) squares and leaves for the RW&B challenge so must get them posted off too.
Off to grab a quick sandwich before we go. Have a good day everyone, and I`ll try to get back later on. Hugs to anyone who needs them, haven`t had time to check up on poorlies etc so have a hug anyway.
