big hugs for people all round today as sounds as if they are much needed;
schzmit thinking of you all; miol this time of year hard as the nights draw in, weather gets colder and c---- away from family is hard. can you arrange a pamper day just for you?
can understand the need for somewhere to go for ones who have gone on before us; just knowing it is there helps and no matter how silly it feels going for a chat does make a difference...good weep also helps as does rest or quiet time if you can get it. big hugs for you too Mrs M.
psso I have lovely images of Jim; possibly because he died at the time I started here...you speaking of him so lovingly but honestly is lovely.
Been a bit of a day here; had a days training which was somewhat harrowing and I suspect nightmares will follow as I process what I heard; the mad dash to get mum to hospital in time for 5 as she had to be there by then...the to john Lewis as she ran out of wool and felt a bit all over the place so got that plus some gorgeous amy butler fabric that will become the lining for the hook holder I wil give to best mate and turquise lineny wool for mine which is rather delicious and also needed to be lined by Amy!! Now home with madam who senses sommat up as lying by me which is unusual for her...now just need to decide which pattern to use for my noro silk garden blanket!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Morning all, bright here but a bit chilly in the wind so don`t think I`ll be gardening for the moment.
Just done the taxi run to nursery and waiting for the kettle to boil again - everyone else having a lie in ?
Did a couple of juggling balls for the fayre last night, they`ve come out ok so might do a few sets, they`ll be pocket money price so the kids will be able to afford them. Found the pattern for the knitted wavy scarf in my box so might hunt out the circular needle and do a couple of them. Not keen on the circs though - I like my right hand needle under my arm so circs and dpn`s just feel awkward to me. That`s why I haven`t tried socks yet.
ISOM - hope you managed to sleep last night with no nightmares. Have you decided which pattern you are going to do your blanket in ?
Oops, kettle boiling so off for a cuppa.
Have a good day whatever you have planned and hugs to all.

Hi
Well it's quite bright here this morning :-)
My neighbour loved her socks. She had a pair on on Sunday :-) Bless her.
I went up to town the other day, and thought I'd pop into a cafe for a coffee, and got an urge to sit and do some crochet, as you do :-) lol, so went into the charity shop and got a hook (even though I have tons at home lol never mind, this one comes out with me now ready for future urges lol) and then into the cheapy shop, where they're selling wool 5 balls for a fiver and got some pastel colours to start a baby blanket with and then sat in the cafe and started a square :-) So now I have yet another project on the go lol.
The main project at the moment is a balaclava for my hubby to wear while walking the Rottie. It's taking a long time to do lol. The ribbing went on for ages. He'd better wear it when it's done lol. Haven't told him I'm making it. Thought I'd surprise him :-) lol.
Have a blessed and proserous day. Hugs to all who need them ((((hugs)))) Love you all.

Good morning girls,
I lurk on here all the time but never feel that I have anything interesting to post!
I have been busy knitting Aids baby jumpers and Seamens hats for the latest LH challenges,it gets dark now at 4pm so definately knitting weather.
I volunteer at a local charity shop on Mondays and have managed to get a couple of the other women interested in LH,hopefully they will tell their friends and start a trend:T
Elaine I have also been knitting red and green cotton washcloths/dishcloths for X**s,they look quite festive when tied up with some tartan ribbon,if you would like some for your stall, let me know?
Hope everyone has a great day.

Very quiet on here today, I guess everyone is busy Christmas shopping
....or maybe not.....the very thought of it gives me a headache
I have spent the morning with a load of scraps of wool, its surprising how many tiny balls end up in the bottom of the bag.
So I russian joined the same colour bits and now have quite decent sized balls, about 15 of them.
I think I'll make a start on some squares and decide what to do with them when I have a sizeable pile.
Was going to go out in the garden and get some more tidying up done but its so cold and miserable I decided to give it a miss.
I'm very thirsty today always am when I've been at the Vino :rotfl:
Think I'll go make a:coffee:

Hi everyone
I hope you are all well and managing to keep warm. It was lovely here on Monday but the last couple of days have been dank and gloomy so summer really is over, I suppose!
Thanks for all the hugs and words of encouragement. They mean such a lot and really help to take the edge of things when I'm feeling fed up and missing everything back home.
Pippa - I did a bit of Christmas shopping this morning but the choice here is nothing compared to the UK, so it can be very frustrating. I only bought a few things but I think I may visit a bigger town next week to see if there's more choice elsewhere.
Well, while DH is working for someone else for a few days, I've been getting just a tiny bit of time to stand and stare, and even smell the roses, but this morning his van sprung a leak so I had to take him to where he was working in my car, and I'll have to go and pick him up later. I can hardly believe that my precious time has been whittled away like that. I know it's not his fault, but it means that I'll have lost a couple of hours by the end of the day. Add that to the fact that the shops close for two hours at 12noon and I ended up having to shop in a rush when I finally did get out. He'll have to take the day off tomorrow to sort the van out, too. I only hope it's something he can fix himself. He can take my car most of the time but, of course, he can't get sheets of plasterboard and stuff like that in it, so he needs to fix the van asap.
Anyway, I'm really not having a good week so I'm sorry if I'm sounding grumpy!
I think I'll go and have a cuppa and come back when I'm more cheerful - I know, I'm going to have a warm pain au chocolate; that should do the trick!

i think we all have a touch of SAD now the weather is turning and its getting darker and colder.
i was reading a really nice article in prima last nigt about a lady who makes all her christmas gifts and has 'done christmas for £32' it was really inspiring and i want to be organised enough next year to make more of my gifts. i'll join you in a confession of wool buying Elaine, i'd used all my red dk up so had to buy a ball this morning to carry on making stockings for the kids at school.

evening all! back from visiting mum who had her op and was sore and groggy but ok. Will be able to get her at lunch time tom. Not feeling great as have a cold coming and tired but will have quiet w/e.
blanket i am doing with the noro is going to be a babette but with just one noro so less complicated than the full blanket but should be intersting! I love the shape of the squares and the fact that its not just one size makes it more interesting. Mind you noro isnt the easiest to crochet with...quite stiff and not comfy iykwim! done 4 squares so far! few hundred to go!
Hang in there those that are struggling - the time year always horrible with so much dark....takes time to adjust to! well get there!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Good morning everyone.
ISOM - hope your mum is feeling a lot better today and, also, that your cold doesn't last too long.
Finequine - everyone's posts are interesting and yours will be, too, so post away. I'd be really interested to know what it's like working in a charity shop, especially as I love them and now that I live in France, I really miss them! We have a chain of shops here called Emmaus which operate as charity shops but I think the proceeds go to the local community. Our local one is not bad but the ones in the cities are really good. I bought a beautiful complete coffee set the other day for €6 which is really good for here. I still miss the shops in the UK, though - they're the best of all!
Salome - I remember making balaclavas for my DSs when they were small. I loved the fact that they really kept their heads well-covered and warm. I have never attempted one for my DH, though, and probably never will now!
Mrs Moneypenny - (((hugs))) to you and your DH. It is early days and it will take time to feel the pain a little less, although it will never go away. Christmas for £32, eh? What sort of things did she make? I can't get Prima here - well, I can in French but, although my French is coming on well, I'd end up with a headache if I tried to read a whole magazine in it!
Well, I had a few precious hours to myself yesterday before I had to go and pick DH up from where he was working. We had to stay for a glass of wine, of course, so we ended up being a bit late having dinner. I had decided on curry, though, and it was all ready to go when we got back - I did as much prep as I could in case we got held up.
I've started sorting out things for PTB's SS (IYKWIM!) - I'm not sure about the 'posting by' date, so I thought I'd better get started on it now rather than having to do it all in a rush.
Well, today DH has to find out what's wrong with the van. It was spraying water but not from the place he expected it from - I just hope he can fix it himself; after the small fortune it's cost us to get both vehicles road-legal here, the last thing we need right now, with DS2's and DIL1's birthdays coming up, and Christmas just around the corner, is more expense.
I'm trying to come up with ideas for Christmas pressies without repeating the things I made last year! I shall do some fingerless gloves as long as knitting doesn't hurt my hands too much, and I'm making toys for some of the little ones, plus jewellery when I finally get round to it, but I am so disappointed with the choice of things here, plus the prices, that I really don't want to have to buy too much here. I have a couple of plastic three-drawer arrangements which I use in my office - A4 paper, envelopes and so on in one, and things like paperclips and so on in the other. In the UK, one of them was £4 and the other was £6. I saw the £4 one here and was just about to buy it (for storing my jewellery-making bits and pieces) when I saw the price - €24.90!!! I will carry on using my shoe boxes until my next UK trip, I think! I can never understand the difference in prices here.
Anyway, I'm grumbling again - time for the kettle to go back on, I think!
HOpe you all have a good day and lots of (((hugs))) for those who are finding life difficult. I know all your (((hugs))) and support really help me. Thank you all for being there.

Hi
Nearly done the main bulk of the balaclava :-) It's quite a chore, won't be sorry to have it done lol.
Bit windy and blowy here today, clear skies though so that's good :-)
Might pop into our local wool shop later. She said she'd get me some 'soles' to put on the bottom of some chunky socks I want to make to make them into slipper socks, so I'll pop in and see if she has them yet. Going to be fatal as well, because I shall probably come out with stuff other than the intention of going there lol.
We've had a knitting club started up in our town that meets every Friday :-) A young mum started it, who is new to knitting. I've managed to go along to one, and will go tomorrow :-) I'm hoping as their skills and confidence grow we can maybe start up some charity knitting, which would be good. Looking forward to seeing how it goes :-) I've been mentioning the club to people in the town and quite a lot are interested, but can't come along because they work that day, so I'm toying over the posibility of an evening one maybe ???? Don't know. Seems good in my head lol. Would have to be once a month though if there was. Couldn't do every week.
Have a blessed and prosperous day. Hugs to all who need them ((((hugs)))) love you all.
