Hi all
I'm a newbie and just wondering if someone could someone tell me what this is all about?
thanks!0 -
Hello Smiling Ducky and welcome.
You'll find the information you want here;

Thanks for that Kinsey!
I managed to find my way back to "Part 2" which told me what it is you lovely folk do.
As much as I would love to help, my crocheting is appalling. I have, within the last month or so, been trying to teach myself how to do it but all I end up with is a big ball of knots. No matter how many you tube videos I watch or how many books I read, I just can't pick it up!
My knitting skills aren't much better. My ability ends at knitting scarves. (Although, the scarves I mange are lovely and warm!!!)
Guess that rules me out of helping0 -
Smiling Ducky - welcome, knitted scarves are always wanted, all sizes and colours I send mine to LOVING HANDS link coming up, they have just launched their winter challenge and wish list and definitely need scarves, so you can most certainly help. My crochet is pants, my hand knitting isn't very brilliant either, I sew and have a knitting machine which I do stuff on and send in. Have a look here at their forum

see what you think? Also Animal Blankets are very easy (fatter scarf really), ISOM (In Search of Me) is saving wee blankets for cats at present, or just knit squares then they can be joined together to make a bigger blanket. Good luck whatever you decided to do. We are all here to help - just ask

Hi Smiling Ducky - love the name! A warm welcome to you. Please don't rule yourself out of helping. If you can knit a scarf, you can knit a square, and squares are always wanted for turning into blankets, and anything and everything you knit will be good practice!
I'm glad Kinsey has pointed you in the right direction so that you know what we get up to on here. As for the crochet, perhaps you could ask in your local wool shop if they know anyone who could teach you to crochet? They may know of a knitting and crochet group in your area. Or ask around your friends and family? What I can promise you is that it really is easy to do once the technique has 'clicked' and you'll wonder how you found it difficult! If you have any questions, please do ask and someone will always be along to help.

Hi Smiling Ducky, don`t you dare just disappear again. Of course you can help.
As Roamin and Mioliere have both said if you can knit scarves you would be helping someone somewhere keep a little bit warmer, and
the more you practice, the better you`ll get. If you aren`t too confident yet, bear in mind that cats and dogs won`t worry if your work isn`t perfect - they`ll just be glad of a cosy bed.
You are not alone with the crochet, quite a few of us here have tried, not all of us have been successful. In fact it has been known for wool and crochet hooks to land up on the other side of the room.
I can just about manage granny squares using this tutorial, and I just carry on going round and round and round and then when it`s big enough I can say I`ve made a blanket
http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/summer-garden-granny-square.html
I found the biggest problem was a lot of the you tube tutorials were american and their stitches are a bit different to ours, like a different language as far as I`m concerned. Learning to knit was never as difficult that`s for sure.
Well, woolly wise here I`ve been knitting a seamans hat using 2 strands of dk but find my fingers/hands are really aching. Don`t know if it`s the damp weather - arthur -itis? - but I`m really not enjoying it. Think I`ll stick to thinner stuff for a while and see if the weather improves :rotfl:Well I can dream can`t I ?????
Night all, sleep well.

Hi everyone.
Hopefully, we've ensured that Smiling Ducky will stay here with us!
Elaine - my hands ache when I knit. I know it's mainly due to tendonitis and, because of that, I prefer to crochet. I do find it easier, though, to knit with wooden needles rather than metal ones, so it may be worth you trying some instead? I really don't think the weather will be improving at this time of year, but you never know!
Not much to report here - I'm still waiting for a finished kitchen!

Morning to one and all x
Thank Goodness it's stopped raining . Early morning call from Buster so I really felt it was my turn and the beach was calling. So we walked down to Instow and Buster thought he was in heaven. Lots of doggie friends and a big beach.
Last night DDIL and I spent ages sorting out all the woolly stuff we have made for her stall. It's looking good and I so hope it all goes well.
Smiling Ducky.-- Please feel free to join us. I do hope we are not at all intimidating as we all do such a variety of tasks
there really is something for everybody. Sometimes I feel like just itting and knitting rows of garter stitch ( all rows knit) and you could either just keep going or just make squares which are always needed.
Please ask if you need any help -- there is always someone to help. Also if you join us you will find we are so much more than just a group of knitting nutters and crazy crocheters.
Well going to spend a day doing family stuff --- lots of walking of course to suit Buster.Try and do a good deed every day.0 -
Wow what a quiet day --- Hope everyone is Ok. We have been to Wollacombe all day wearing Buster out --- but he is still bouncy and we are all worn out!!Try and do a good deed every day.0

ISOM - believe me I sympathise when it comes to families (counsellors have said thats where half my problems come from!)- I hope things are sorted for you now though xxxx
smiling duck - noooooooooooooooo dont leave - my knitting is not great has got better over time mind you - i started on squares and scarves - then went onto buntings for the dear wee things that leave us too soon (they are garter with a couple of rows of holes) and with the help of these lovely ladies (and a couple of videos on line) i mastered a few more stitches - I have what i affectionately call my "la la moments" when i have asked the silliest questions but this lot take it in their stride and answer me:rotfl:- so welcome to you xxx
I shall not begin to tell you what the last few days have been like - suffice to say - washing machine decided to boil itself silly (seen the maltesers advert where she changes the jeans for barbie doll jeans - well dh's pants will now fit action man - my dear husband is beside himself over the new house - and me who normally goes off on a tangent at the slightest thing has remained calm and kept reassuring him that "all will be fine - it just needs a really good clean and decorating" whilst secretly also thinking omg what are we to do!!!!! dh also is under the weather and has a sinus infection which he could have dealt with end of last week but became a "man" about it and said he was ok ! - my FIL is threatening to paint everything white - which I keep politely telling him "oh no I dont want to put you to any trouble" and so the list goes on .......................
