busy this week so havent had a chance to come in yet

congrats to the beautiful new arrivals (and the pending arrival)

monday had to go drs with mil nothing serious but she seems to need me to hold hr hand a lot at the mo, tuesday was her birthday so spent the morning with her and then went back round with DH after meetings we bth had in the evening (the kids had been round in the afty so we were trying to spead visits out so she dindt get low. even the florist id arranged to take flowers round sat for a chat and a cup of tea which was good of her.)
yesterday i was trying to catch up on a few chores around the house so just before work mil came up, she said i hadnt been to see her so she thought shed better come round incase something was wrong. I went round last night as wed been to pick DDs textile work up from college and we took it to show mil, it was a bit sad really as GP (grandpa) was a painter and enjoyed doing landscapes etc when he wasnt working and mil kept saying she wished GP was here to see how hard DD had worked.
going to pop round before work as i think ive managed to mend mils spare glasses (well a temp job) and DDhas said i can tak her sketch books round so mil can look at those.

Does anyone else find they knit faster when they are running out of wool? ive done the back front and sleeves of my cable top and just have the cabled band that goes round the neck to do but i dont think i have enough wool left with doing the front and back longer by accident. i seem to be knitting like a dervish on the band i think my brain thinks if i knit faster ill get to the right length before the ball of wool runs out. im just hoping the shop have that colour left when i go in at the weekend.

loving the plans of a wooligan tour bus

    have a good day all

sending special hugs to you SK

  • Shaz - no need to cry at the ripping back of knitting, you are obviously a "wee bit fragile", I could send you the pink wool spaghetti would that cheer you?? Yep I still have loads of it, stuffed it into the work basket and poked it out of the way for the time being, will return to it sometime.
Maytaurus - you really don't have to stay awake ALL THE WEEK LONG, get to bed and have a rest PLEASE
Mrs Moneypenny - it will take your MIL a wee while to get her own routine, you just have to support her as much as she needs, and reasure her for the future - not an easy task but so essential to her.
Chalky - glad you did a tutorial for the wee bags - I am now up to my ears in making a load for the birthday party - yeh I never said we would have one but I have been volunteered, so like you I am cobbling together a lasagne for 14 and have knocked up a scottish dumplin for the cake. DH has said it won't count and I really should make the effort to do a proper birthday cake with candles etc, well I am avoiding that one like the plague.
ISOM - be kind to yourself, know you have a busy weekend coming up but find some ME TIME just to relax.
MOILIERE - hope you do get a cake for DH some time over the next couple of days.
So everybody can we get some numbers together eventually for that BUS TRIP, what I would give to start that one off properly and not have to worry about where it was going just so long as I caught up with you all, or for that matter how long it would take to do the WHOLE TRIP! Away for lunch then back on the wee folded bags for the party.

    Morning everyone

Those motorhomes look great. I can just imagine filling it with wool and setting off! :rotfl:
Shaz, hope your mouth is feeling much better, You’ve certainly had a lot on your plate recently.
Shez, thinking of you and your Mum.
Don, great news, congratulations on the new arrival, hope you’re ok.
Chalky, I’m amazed that your books weren’t looked at, there never seems to be any crochet books about whenever I go to a carboot. You’re going to be very busy with all that cooking, but it sounds lovely.
Kathy, what a lot you have on at the moment. The sausage sizzle sounds good though, and the book fair and carboot. Congratulations on the new grandchild. March will be here before you know it.
Jean, microwave cake sounds good to me, can we have the recipe please?
Kinsey, I wish I could get into the garden for a tidy, but the weather’s atrocious.
MrsMP, How nice that your mil relies on you, I miss mine very much. I knit faster before I run out of wool too, but sometimes it works!

I’ve been busy this week, babysitting DGD who’s got a snuffly cold poor lamb, and clearing out summer stuff to make way for winter clothes. I want to tidy the garden as soon as we get a dry bit. Where do the hours go? Does anyone else find that time speeds up as you get older? Or is it that we take longer to do things?
Hugs to everyone feeling down or poorly
    Love

    Afternoon all
Just a quick one from me today trying to get things sorted for the holiday (much needed I can tell you)

All MIL's treasures are packed up and in our garage now, we have planned a get together with OH's brothers and SIL when we get back, to do the final sort out, go through the photos etc...might be a good idea to get a few bottles in as I think it will be a bit traumatic

Jean - thanks for the sponge recipe I will have a go at that when we get back. Love the baby pic how cute is that :)
chalky - sounds like you're cooking up a storm, nice to hear the men are helping out ;)
mrs-mp - yep I knit faster too, have you ever run out of wool and ripped back a row or 2 then found there was just enough to finish ?
ISOM - parcel on its way to you with 3 cat blankets in, hope they are ok.
MrsTwins - parcel on its way to you too with 4 mens squares and my Jan Eaton square

Well better go get some food sorted out OH is bound to be hungry

if u would like me to untangle it, and send u it back, i would happily do that for you
mrs mp, i knit faster too when i'm running out of wool
anne, hope you have a lovely holiday, you certainly deserve it
pol, if only there were more hours in the day. hope dgd gets over the snuffles real soon.
mouth is better today, the anti biotics must have done there job, now i have a sore throat, and feel as if i'm coming down with a cold, still a cold easier to handle than a pain in mouth
    hugs all

OK I know this is certainly off topic but it's too good to miss - I use two thirds of the sponge recipe for microwave "steamed jam pudding" aprox 6 minutes in a bowl on high

    MICROWAVE VICTORIA SPONGE

175g/6 oz butter or margarine softened
    175g/6 oz self-raising flour
    2.5ml/½ teaspoon baking powder
    175g/6 oz caster sugar
    3 eggs
    30-45ml/2-3 tablespoons milk

MAKES a 20cm/8” round cake or a 22x22 cm/ 8½x8½” square cake (round straight sided souffl! dish is perfect too)

    Power and timings below

    Wattage Round Square
    700 5½-7½ 7-9
    650 6-8 7½-9½
    600 7-9 8-10
    500 8-10 9-11

(this recipe is really old and microwaves are more powerful today – I dial mine down to 700)

Grease and line the chosen dish. Beat/whisk together the butter, flour, baking power, sugar, eggs and enough milk to give a soft dropping consistency. Spoon into the dish. Pop into the micro and cook, rotate the dish if you do not have a turntable (see its that old !). Insert a skewer into the cake to check its cooked – comes out clean. If it’s the square cake it should spring back when lightly pressed.. Leave to stand in the dish for 10 minutes then turn out onto a wire rack. Split in half and sandwich together with jam or lemon curd when cake is cold.

MICROWAVE FROSTING, enough for the round or the square cake

    BUTTERCREAM frosting

    15g/½ oz butter or margarine
    15ml/1 tablespoon cream or milk
    Pinch of salt
    225g/8 oz icing sugar
1.5ml/¼ teaspoon vanilla or rum or coffee flavouring

combine butter, cream and salt in mixing bowl and micro on medium 20-40 seconds till bubbling, to give it a good cooked flavour. Add the sifted sugar and the flavouring of choice Beat until smooth and spreading consistency.. It should hold a deep swirl. You may need to thin it out as it cools, spread round the sides over the top. Don’t try to make it smooth, its meant to be swirly. Decorate with coconut or chopped nuts, etc DON’T BLAME ME IF YOU EAT IT ALL AT ONCE – again this won’t keep! Recipe was from a microwave know-how part book I think I only got the first couple back 1978 eeek

Hello to one and all -- What a lovely lot of posts -- it's making me hungry!!
Well Dh and I are just grabbing a few minutes-- Him Sudoko and me knitting -- the lull before the storm
1 lots of the family are on their way as I type.
Next Summer our nephew is getting married in Buffalo to an American girl. Sadly Dmil has been advised by the doctor not to go --- She is so sad. So as a surprise they have flown over for her birthday weekend. She will be over the moon. We are going up to hers in a minute so that we can see her face when they arrive!

Hopefully tomorrow thay will all be able to have a trip up to Dartmoor to show Sarah (from the USA ) some of our countryside here in Devon. So we hopefully will go up and join them in the Sunshine Bus at the rUgglestone in in Widecombe in the Moor.

As I type it is bucketing and I mean bucketing down so I hope all this clears away before our Bbq here tomorrow evening!

Well I send lots of love to all
Pippa enjoy every second of that well deserved holiday
Jean[/B] good luck with all the birthday prep -- Glad the bags are proving useful
Kathy-- Good Luck with the curtain making -- I hate that job!!
Shaz -- Hope you feel better soon.
    May -- zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Pol - Hope GGD feels better soon.

    Love Linda
Try and do a good deed every day.
  • Evening all! Well managed to almost do a half day but got waylayed helping someone with a form which typically took ages! Government ploy I think to stop people claiming benefits!
As for the man on the tv I didnt lay anybody - Im a good girl I am!
Managed to do some of the costco shop for sat's meal; got the potatoes and various other bits (seakay is coming so dont want to tell all!) and sommat is in the oven cooking as I type! Dont worry am enjoying it and am resting - just had a 3 hour snooze so fear not!
Pippa thank you for the lovely blankets - you definately get the prize for most innovative designs!! Will do piccy before I send things off.
Thinking of you mrs m...mum got very insecure and wobbly when out of confidence because her confidence was dented but shes is now more herself! Sounds like you are all thinking of her in day to day life which is lovely.
Socky sorry to hear that you feel low still; if it continues I really would go and see your GP for a natter. In this day and age no need to be low when you dont need to be. Have to say I wouldnt have coped at all without my lovely tabs! Meanwhile a huge hug from me.
Goodness me may why were you without sleep so long?? Poor you!
Chalky sounds like youre having a lovely visit home! Any news from DD?
Right must on to plan more party food!! big hugs!
