The pompom is really easy to do once you get the hang of it. I did a couple of scarves, really thick and cosy, and a couple of blankets as well.

Have finished the two blankets in Flutterby chunky, 1pink 1 blue. Have cast on Pippa's cowl with the leftover yarn but not too keen on it done on big needles. Might try adapting it.

Still hooking some James C Brett marble squares as well, just to ring the changes.

Hope you all have a good day.

ginny - I found the pom-pom yarn a bit tricky at first as well, but when you 'get it' it works up lovely, warm too. I love your toy knits little piggy is so cute
psso - 'finish one item before starting another'...how does that work then :rotfl:I have so many UFO's now I have forgotten what most of them are :o
jean - how is OH coming along?

I was asked by DGD's when they were here if I can do some penguins for their Christmas Fayre this year to go with the snowmen, I have a knitted pattern from a Jean Greenhowe book they are lovely but they take so long and are a bit too fiddly to do a lot of,
so thats my job for later looking for an easy crochet pattern for smallish penguin's, could take some time

Off to the enablement centre at 2:45 to see Mom, so I better get a shuftie on

    ta ta the noo
    Love Annie xx

    stick with easy things Annie............
DH still lay lying manages about 5 minutes out of bed and that is about his lot. He had BP (fine at 133/90) and bloods taken this morning as a weekly check and Quack to visit tomorrow and explain what they expect of him next week. He isn't eating a great deal - but I am making all his favourites to tempt him. Twinks hobnobs this morning and Chalky's oat/cranberry tray bake - bet I eat it all - what a hardship eh. I am having trouble sleeping - too frightened to miss something that's my problem.... don't think he would appreciate me on a knitting machine in the wee small hours so I just do a bit of crochet or book reading. Managing fine tho' I have a great timetable worked out and it enables me to pack as much as I can into the days. He is usually asleep by 9.30 and I have realised I am just as well hitting the bed at that time too otherwise I am cream crackered come the mornings. Hope your mum is doing OK?? PippaS - Mrs Moneypenny how is MIL?
psso - you LIE...... finish one thing before starting another - bet you have loads of wips......
ginny - I have some pom pom - night get around to it one day but its way down the list.
Hope you are all keeping fine and enjoying this little bit of Indian Summer.
Loads of love and cuddles to you all

  • Hi Ladies remember me?

The reason I did not join you is having not kitted for so many years I think I am trying to make up for it. I have knitted for myself two tops a cardigan, scarf and a waistcoat. All still waiting to be sewn up as I started on Christmas presents.

So far I have knitted 5 scarfs, six pairs of mittens, a baby jumper and 3 hats. I have made some extras for my local hospice shop which have a small shop near where I live. The Hospice is just down the road from me.

It suddenly dawned on me my DIL works in a hospital with a big special care baby unit. I could give her any premi knitting I do.

I was bothered about postage because it is very expensive. I am on a very low income.

I have been reading all your posts and noticed that you had all been bothered about the cost of postage back in January. I would like to join you now but I will not be doing a lot of charity knitting before December as I am planning on Knitting all of my Christmas presents but my youngest son as he lives with me. I don't think he would like me knitting anything if I did.

    :wave:Morning all.

Nursemaggie, most of us try to find local places for our stuff. Many of us are on low incomes and can't afford postal charges. For anything that we can't place locally it's cheaper to use a courier, and some of them even pick up from your house.
I saw on the knitters thread you decided to do a scarf using the pattern PippaS posted the other day. I'm doing it as a cowl in Flutterby yarn leftover from the baby blankets I did, lovely and snuggly.
Nice easy pattern which doesn't need much thinking about.

Roamin, are you casting nasturtiums in my direction ?:D
I decided a while ago to be good (I know that's hard to imagine) and finish one project before starting another, even trying to use up the whole ball of yarn before starting another. Have been managing that fairly well, and only short lengths of yarn have been knotted together for knitting up a kitty blankie when there's enough.:p So there !:rotfl:

Kathy and Chalky, hope you are both enjoying your holidays.
I've had to cancel my break. There's only so far you can make a pound stretch:( and I've had some unexpected expenses recently.

Never mind, might manage something in Spring instead.

Been asked if I'll do some baking for the McMillan coffee morning at the school on Friday so better go and get supplies in. Been so long since I baked anything I'd better choose something foolproof.

Am thinking flapjacks, malteser slice (if it gets past the front door) and maybe melting moments/custard creams ,whichever name you know them by. Does that meet with your approval ma'am ?
Maybe a tea loaf or banana loaf while the oven is on,depends on the mood.

  • oh cake, i wouldnt say no. DH works had their mcmillian coffee morning last friday so DD3 sent in 2doz cupcakes and i sent a couple of bags id made and a scarf for the raffle they made over £500. Dh bought 6 cakes home so we could have one each for afters.

hospital wasnt brill yesterday mil wasnt happy as yesterday was appt to discuss the results of the scan shed had BUT on saturday they sent her an appt for radio therapy next thursday in the post. consultant was very apologetic but mil was angry and said she didnt want to be pushed into having to have stuff done without having a chance to think about it. so now we are just going to talk to the radiologist on thursday and once shes decided she can start radiotherapy if she wants. (she needs to it looking like its in her lymph nodes now-i think she will but she didnt want to be told she had to) spent the morning round hers discussing the pros and cons of surgery followed by radiotherapy Vs radiotherapy which may mean she wont need the surgery.

bad news off my mum, my uncle who isnt much older than me is now in a hospice and doesnt have long left at all. truthfully the end will be a release as he is suffering so much but its still incredibly sad.

im knitting a baby blanket using the sands pattern friends are expecting their first grandchild so i wanted to do something. done the blanket im working on the third side of the lace edge at the mo.
the hospital we are going to on thursday is the one that accepts the babies hats so ive got some i did and the ones F1 kindly sent a while ago, i will be taking those in with me to donate.

hugs to all who need one and if anyone has some really happy news please share it im starting to feel incredibly drained

REALLY HAPPY NEWS- DH has been home a whole week, he is getting himself out and in to bed on his own, he is eating a bit more every day, his blood pressure is now all normal, he is being as happy as he can be given his current situation - I downloaded him an audio book and he has been quiet as a mouse all afternoon, letting me PLAY ON THE KNITTING MACHINE - I class all of that as HAPPY DAY FOR ME.
Wishing your MIL makes the right choice for herself... having had the op with no option but to have the radiotherapy the support staff were wonderful hang in there with her Mrs Moneypenny, what ever she decides. I agree it is her decision and hers alone. Sad news about your Uncle tho'.
Did you ever get details of which hats were required most and the pattern? I vaguely remember they were going to contact you ?
Sending you all the love and positive vibes I have (that's loads by the way).
psso - any or all - please post urgently!
