    Possible but unlikely.

On the other hand the brake and clutch pedals on my landy are just plain metal with bumps on, presumably because squaddies in hobnails would make short work of rubber pads.
you dont need a rubber pad on brake pedal for your car to pass mot

Because the second garage gave you a dodgy MOT. Your car should have FAILED because it didn't have a rubber on the brake pedal.

No, its a case of getting an MOT pass when the vehicle should have failed because you know the person doing the test.

Because you got a dodgy.MOT, you cannot judge the fail you got as being a rip off. The second MOT tester overlooked the brake pedal rubber so what else did he decide to turn a blind eye to? Brake pads and discs is my bet. He might not have even looked at the car... YOU HAVE AN MOT CERTIFICATE THATS NOT WORTH THE PAPER ITS PRINTED ON

Personally, I'd not take another car to the second MOT tester as he is obviously dishonest.

This guy is un believable OP, check out his form.:mad:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

For what it's worth Hammyman does seem to know what he's talking about - if the requirements say that the brake pedal should have a rubber cover in order to pass and this cover was missing then clearly the car shouldn't have passed.

I used to be a mechanic at a Nissan Dealership back in the day. I've seen just about every dodgy practice you can think of over the years. It wasn't uncommon for traders to have "agreements" in place with MOT garages where if a car failed an MOT they'd simply ring the MOT station once the work was done and get a certificate written out without the car being seen.

So damn what? You want to report that garage for passing her MOT? Joka.

Indeed. What else did they not bother checking? How would you like it if your kids were killed by a car that had just been MOTd because the brake flexi hose blew due to a fault which would have been picked up but never was because the car owner was a mate of the tester?

Probably one of the three she had replaced.
The pedal wasn't a fail, advisory only, so seems a fair MOT to me.

The pedal WAS a fail. There is no ifs or buts about it.

As for the pedal..please read carefully..the pedal is fully formed,NOT half missing..we actually bought it from Peugeot dealer like that, with MOT. After checking it online,it IS actually legal! It has VERY deep grooves in the metal design so it is passable. Some garages possibly think they all have to be rubber.

Yep, a grooved or studded pedal is good enough ;)

Ferrari pedals...can't see a lot of rubber there.

then i suggest you re-read my posts:p...i did say i have had all tyres replaced in the day between each mot..thu it "failed" fri tryes replaced, and while the wheels were off i got the tyres man to check my pads and discs as they do mots too,and he said they were not excessively pitted as i was told and would be ok for another few months, and then on sat it passed an MOT.

Hubby has kindly been to have a look himself as he can be a whizz with cars and he agrees that "one of the above named Vauxhall garages" was trying it on.

It has only done 25k miles so i will be replacing braking system this year...it passed perfectly fine.

there is no evidence of a fuel leak on my drive, and i get 49+ miles to gallon out of it so i dont think im leaving diesel all over the place.

I will stress..the garage that passed did NOT know me,i have diff name to hubby,i did not mention him,his friend was on holiday so he didnt do it..to this garage i was just another customer, so tell me how they knew who i was.:undecided
thank you to all those who can see where im coming from;):kisses3:

i can definitely see where you are coming from. I always watch my car mot being done on my 16 yr old mx5 and last july it passed and the advisory was aligning my headlights. I am lucky enough to have my own mechanic who owns and loves his two mx5s and treats my car like his own. so it always passes. Brake discs do not always have to be replaced. I had my brake pads replaced last year before xmas and the brake discs that are on are the same ones that were on the car in 2007 when I bought it. they have lines on them but are not pitted. My friend will tell me when they need replacing. I trust him and he gives me lots of free stuff for the car. eg my handbrake was bit loose, he adjusted it for no cost.:)

OK it seems i have to clarify for the muppets who are only reading what they want to read..this is in capitals if the site will let me,so i am making it clearer;)
1.GARAGE NEVER KNEW WHO I WAS
2.HUBBY MATE NOT THERE..HE ON HOL SOMEWHERE IN WORLD
3.I WAS JUST ANOTHER CUSTOMER TO THEM,IN FACT NEW CUSTOMER AS MY NAME HAS NEVER BEEN USED THERE
So how was it a favoured Mot??????

I have looked at a few Hammy posts thank you for pointer..
NOW as for the quote above..this is why i have his replies folks..he is a dodgy mechanic himself..he admits to having seen every dodgy practice going..admittedly he doesnt stress HE did them, but he did condone it by not reporting his employer!!
Hammy..did you report your employer then or are you proving you are just another one of the mechanics i met on Fri????:naughty:
