Garage tried to rip female off with MOT fail..they failed in end!
Hi..Due to splitting up with hubby,i decided it not fair to use his garage contacts in future so i booked half price MOT with Vauxhall dealer up the road from work.(they offered half price, to my work employees and they picked up dropped off car so convenient).
In went my Peugeot 407 for its first ever MOT(3yrold)..i get a call saying its failed..
a cut in a rear tyre,no rubber brake pedal cover,,needs new pads and discs and best of all, small diesel leak meaning they will have to dismantle whole tank from underneath and will be big job!! plus advise that front tyres getting low, which i know anyway, and was sorting already.
I said i would go elsewhere for the repairs, and bit the dust and used our contact in garage from next town...he did a full MOT and passed it straight away...he just recommended i get brake pedal cover for few quid, which i am doing,i did have 3 new tyres on before he did this MOT.
So, why did first garage even take my wheels off when all they have to do is a computerized brake test, and why did it fail there yet pass fine 2 days later!
And where did the myterious and expensive diesel leak go to???
Needless to say, they failed to get anymore dosh out of me,and will get less business from our workplace as i take down thier poster!!:p
is this a case of lets rip off the female? thought that had stopped..

Because the second garage gave you a dodgy MOT. Your car should have FAILED because it didn't have a rubber on the brake pedal.is this a case of lets rip off the female? thought that had stopped..
No, its a case of getting an MOT pass when the vehicle should have failed because you know the person doing the test.
Because you got a dodgy.MOT, you cannot judge the fail you got as being a rip off. The second MOT tester overlooked the brake pedal rubber so what else did he decide to turn a blind eye to? Brake pads and discs is my bet. He might not have even looked at the car... YOU HAVE AN MOT CERTIFICATE THATS NOT WORTH THE PAPER ITS PRINTED ON
Personally, I'd not take another car to the second MOT tester as he is obviously dishonest.0 -

This garage is a well known and reputable garage, they have recently moved to larger premises, and have all the top of the range technology needed for todays cars. They are not some dodgy garage, and I did not give my husbands name when i booked,i used mine, and his contact friend there was on holiday all week and didnt do it.Hubbys brother used to work there until he moved away,so he knows how they can be trusted.
I also sat and watched as it went up on the lifter and they plugged it to what ever they plug it into,i watched them do the test..they have a viewing section built as they have nothing to hide!!
I will use them in future,i only didnt because i felt i was using hubbys contacts and we have split.
I didnt see MOT done at first garage, they took car, said it would be back when i asked for it at 12midday,it didnt come back till4pm after i had calle them to say dont repair it...
i was told the pedal cover was advisory and i am doing it in next 2 days...there was no trace of a fuel leak as i expressly asked if they saw anything...after it had the pass that is!TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0 -

Yet they issued an illegal MOT.
Reasons for a fail;
b. the anti-slip provision on the brake pedal pad is missing, incomplete, loose or worn smooth0 -
You lot need to get off her case.
Don't be fooled by half price MOT. mot doesn't make much money for business even charging full price. A member here has his own garage and mot place, he said as much the money comes from the repair works. Just continue to use trusted garage. I use an MOT only place in south east london for the past 4 years and have always passed with some advisory.
A female friend of mine took her toyota yaris to the dealer for a major service which should be about £200, came out with a bill of £1K+ , because she is female and doesn't know anything about cars she paid for whatever they say need replacing.0 -

Point me to an MOT cert that is?
It clearly states on ALL MOT certificatesWarning: A test certificate is not evidence that the vehicle is in a satisfactory condition.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

You've seen it then?
Or if not, how do you know the metal underneath isn't an anti-slip pattern, in case the rubber falls off?0 -

You're dreaming. Do you really think that the car's pedals are designed with that much redundancy?
No point putting the rubber on it in the first place if that was the case!
Anyone with half a brain knows that a car missing half the pedal shouldn't pass an MOT!

Possible but unlikely.
On the other hand the brake and clutch pedals on my landy are just plain metal with bumps on, presumably because squaddies in hobnails would make short work of rubber pads.0
