Garage tried to rip female off with MOT fail..they failed in end!

There is that possibility, so what about the cut in the tyre?
The OP has made no mention of that being replaced before a ticket was issued, and that is something that you can't hide.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
There aren't that many Vauxhall garages in Derbyshire - wonder which one it was? Marehay?, Pentagon?, Bristol Street Motors?
For my 2p I'd rather have a garage which actually cared about the finer details of my vehicle than one which cuts corners to try and save me a few quid.
I don't think the first garage has lost very much to be honest. There will be other customers who will go there because they appreciate their obvious thoroughness and attention to detail. Meanwhile the OP has to drive around with a niggling thought at the back of her mind that her car may just have a diesel leak. I wouldn't want to do that.0 -

I said i would go elsewhere for the repairs, and bit the dust and used our contact in garage from next town...he did a full MOT and passed it straight away...he just recommended i get brake pedal cover for few quid, which i am doing,i did have 3 new tyres on before he did this MOT.
Probably one of the three she had replaced.
The pedal wasn't a fail, advisory only, so seems a fair MOT to me.0 -

then i suggest you re-read my posts:p...i did say i have had all tyres replaced in the day between each mot..thu it "failed" fri tryes replaced, and while the wheels were off i got the tyres man to check my pads and discs as they do mots too,and he said they were not excessively pitted as i was told and would be ok for another few months, and then on sat it passed an MOT.
Hubby has kindly been to have a look himself as he can be a whizz with cars and he agrees that "one of the above named Vauxhall garages" was trying it on.
As for the pedal..please read carefully..the pedal is fully formed,NOT half missing..we actually bought it from Peugeot dealer like that, with MOT. After checking it online,it IS actually legal! It has VERY deep grooves in the metal design so it is passable. Some garages possibly think they all have to be rubber.
It has only done 25k miles so i will be replacing braking system this year...it passed perfectly fine.
there is no evidence of a fuel leak on my drive, and i get 49+ miles to gallon out of it so i dont think im leaving diesel all over the place.
I will stress..the garage that passed did NOT know me,i have diff name to hubby,i did not mention him,his friend was on holiday so he didnt do it..to this garage i was just another customer, so tell me how they knew who i was.:undecided
thank you to all those who can see where im coming from;):kisses3:TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0 -
TBH I find it hard to believe cars ever fail for that - think of the amount of taxis/pizza delivery cars/etc that are around town all the time and will wear a set of pedal covers in 20-30k
you dont think that when our taxis go in for a service/MOT or whatever that we replace these things?
obviously they are subject to more wear and tear, but that doesnt mean taxis dont fail MOT's for that reason, it just means we have to replace them more often :T0 -

Well any ex-taxis I've seen for sale don't look like they've had them replaced in the X months (< 12) from the last MOT and are certainly worn smooth most of the time. A friend works for Domino's Pizza and the brake + clutch pedal covers in his car are worn smooth too and it's not failed an MOT yet...
There are plenty of dodgy MOT garages out there though - my car was supplied to me with non functional wipers and questionable parking brake efficiency and yet it'd passed it's first MOT the day before I picked it up.....0 -

"The provision of a pedal rubber which is itself an anti-slip material is not regarded as a reason for rejection if the design pattern is worn smooth."
from Hammyman's link above.
So smooth rubber is ok, smooth metal isn't. (unless it was originally made that way)0 -
If it fails I'd question it.

I dont think garages target women in particular, more likely they target people who dont have a clue about cars which is understandable though immoral.
If something goes wrong with one of my cars I try to research it first on the internet- get a bit of background info at least to suggest it to the garage when I put my car in.
There are a lot of good garages out there who value custom and are as honest as they can be in the industry.
My garage have fixed things on my car and my parents cars numerous times free of charge.0 -
Ah I see what they're getting at there. If the pedal cover is made out of special non slip rubber then it doesn't matter if its worn smooth or not, its non slip so it'll still grip your foot without the grippy pattern thing. If its not non slip (how do you measure that?!) and its smooth then it should fail.
I think they're saying it's common sense, and the MOT inspector should be able to tell.
As to measuring it, he'll do that with his foot on the brake test.
If it's slippy, it fails, if it's not it passes.0
