Does anyone else now have the 'Michael Finnegan' rhyme running persistently through their head now? Or am I just showing my age ...

Yes its either, there is a little lad and a girl a know called this although they are pronouced differently. The boy is (row as in row your boat) rowan and the girl (row as in argue) rowan.

Duloch, remember it is pronounced joaby in the some areas, rhymes with boaby - as in - here comes the boaby, he playin wi' 'iz boaby...

so it would be he's awa' fir a big joaby....:rotfl:

love that word, it cracks me up

of course toby, bobby and willie are similar, as I said earlier, don't call boys after names for their bits. Or any used in slang/vernacular.

And yes, ya big jessie is still used up here. Jessie is also the cowgirl in toy story.;)

I know someone with a Jesse.. and he never gets anything other than Jesse.. even at school.. he is at secondary now... I don't think children use 'big Jesse' any more.. they just tell them they are 'gay'

I have a Jesse! He's 17 now, and as far as I know he's never had any bother with people calling him a big jessie - maybe that's a regional thing? He does get fed up with people spelling it wrongly, or assuming he's a girl if they haven't met him.

I also have an Asa - he has always absolutely loved his name, and the fact that it is fairly unusual in this country (It is much more common in the States, as is Jesse.)

Their big brother is Tom.......:rotfl:who is known by his friends as TJ.
