Thanks rwalton159 can I ask another quick question:o Just had a quick look on Amazon as a starting point. If a phone says "sim free" does this mean I could buy it and not have to do any complicated "unlocking thing?"
I really appreciate all this help it's so muich easier when you can ask your virtual friends and I have already saved a fortune this way so thanks again in advance

Personally I wouldn't buy a phone from Amazon.

Simfree should allow you to put whatever sim in the phone you wish :)

Do you have a particular mobile in mind?

If not what features do you want?

Please would you mind saying why? I bought a sim-free smartphone from Amazon (it was the cheapest) and I haven't had any problems with it. The phone I had before that came from Carphone Warehouse and I had nothing but problems with it!

I bought an electronic product from Amazon.co.uk and it's stopped working. Can I return it?

If an electronic or photography product becomes defective after 30 days you won't be able to return it using our Online Returns Centre. We'd recommend referring to the manufacturer's website to locate their contact details as they should be able to offer troubleshooting and support.

Whereas in the UK if you purchased from a shop, you take it back to there instead of messing about with the manufacturer.

Its my personal choice not to buy electricals from Amazon.

Thanks for everyones replies. I just want to be able to check my e-mails and get e-bay and then the usual things like calls and the odd text. My childrens responses might be different;)

I will probably wait until half term when I have more time but I will start by phoning virgin and seeing if they offer me a deal . At the moment only my son has internet acess and he pays double the price of this deal. We pay the same but have no internet access at all. I honestly don't know what phone I would like. I would love an I-phone but I presume they would be prohibatively expensive to buy...unless anyone knows different...is that why someone asked about micro sims??? If you changed to the i phone would you then have to change your number because you needed a different type of sim card...sorry if that is a really ignorant question . I have an I pod touch and I love it. Any suggestions would be welcome:)
