I snatch up double cream when it's on the reduced counter just so I can make ice cream
The recipes are on this thread ... http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=53041
thriftlady, saw AWT making a gingernut caterpilla the other day on TV, he dipped his gingernuts in brandy before sandwiching them with cream~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Eek!!!
I've somehow managed to end up with several tubs of double cream which have a use by date of today on them. I think there are 6 300ml tubs. What the heck can I do with it without causing myself serious damage?
I don't think it will freeze, I don't have anything here to whip it with, and to make matters worse I have flu and am off all dairy
I could get rid of one carton by making some chocolate truffle mix up and then freeze it, but that would end my chocolate supply and I just don't know what else to do with 1.5 litres of double cream.:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:AThinks Naughty Things Too Much Clique Member No 3, 4 & 5

How about making some ice-cream?
Nothing quite like homemade vanilla ice-cream

Donate some to your neighbours????
I'm bedridden with flu.
I'm not sure that me knocking on doors looking like death and offering iffy cream is gonna endear my neighbours to me!!! :rotfl::A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:AThinks Naughty Things Too Much Clique Member No 3, 4 & 5

Well I was going to suggest whipping it and then adding crushed meringues and a crushed up choccy flake and then freezing but if whipping is out....it might still work. You can then slice it as a lovely pud and can top with crushed rasps (I just open a tin and chuck it over) or I bet it would be nice with some Bailey's over it or somesuch. Without whipping it I am at a bit of a loss really. Hope you get over the flu soon though. What about some very luxurious hot choccy? And I bet if they aren't opened you would be fine for a couple of days yet on them.0

BTW my mum introduced me to doing this, only ever happened at Xmas or if they had had a dinner party and there was some leftover cream in a bowl, wack some in your cereal bowl mmmmmmmmmm. Just make up cereal as normal and then blob in some floating islands of whipped cream or in your whipless state swirl some on top at the end. That is why I am fat!0

Love the idea, and if I were at home I could do that. But my London crashpad's cupboards are bare apart from some licorice and frozen peas.
Anyone know what would happen if I just froze it as it was?:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:AThinks Naughty Things Too Much Clique Member No 3, 4 & 5

I think that double cream has a high enough fat content to freeze. After all loads of bought frozen gateaux have whipped cream in them.0
