Thankyou!
Do you have mushrooms? Fry some mushrooms in a mix of butter & oil, add some cream, season with salt, & continue to cook for a minute so the cream thickens. Serve on toast. Yummy.A well balanced life is a glass in each hand0 -
Anything that I could make and then freeze would be extra handy!0

Make your own butter, there is a thread on here about it,really simple to do and fun.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0

Syllabub (takes a while, but very easy)
put lemon rind + juice (1 lemon), 2 tbsp brandy and 5 fl oz white wine in a bowl overnight.
Next day stir in 3 tbsp sugar and stir to dissolve.
Pour in half a pint of cream and beat until the mixture forms soft peaks. Spoon into glasses.
It does separate after a night in the fridge, but you can whip it up again.0 -
Another thought
Gingernut pud
get a packet of gingernuts. Whip loads of cream up.
Sandwich two biscuits with a tsp cream. Stand them on edge on a plate. Put another tsp of cream on another biscuit and press onto the first pair. Continue until you have a caterpillar of cream and biscuits.
Use remaining cream to cover the lot and chill.0 -
Ooh, here's another one -I'm on a roll
Frozen Pineapple-meringue dessert
Get a tin of pineapple, drain well and chop up.
Get a packet of meringues, bash them up.
Whip up loads of cream.
Combine the 3 and pile into a flan tin/cake tin.
Cover with clingfilm and freeze.
To serve, cut into wedges from frozen.
Bits of chocolate or preserved ginger would be good in this too
Wish I had loads of cream now.0 -
Thanks guys! Great ideas! Have some people coming round for dinner soon so may use it to make one of those yummy sounding desserts!0

potato bake - freezes quite well.
layer thin slices of potato ( some people parboil them first, if you want it to cook quicker), diced onion and cheese, pour some of the cream over, and continue, finishing with a layer of cheese. Season with salt and pepper, cover and bake till the potatoes are soft, then uncover and leave to brown.
You can also put in mushrooms, or rosemary to liven it up. Can be used as a side dish or on its own. Sorry I can't be specific about times or temperature, as it varies a bit. Gas mark four, about an hour(ish). All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

I often seem to have cream to use up- my two current favourites are:
Potatoes, Cream and Garlic
Boil Potatoes (probably peeled, cut into 'roastie' sized chunks)..
Lightly grease a baking dish, put in potatoes, pour over what cream you've got, put in some lazy garlic or minced garlic to taste- I use a couple of cloves, my MIL a couple of bulbs I thinK!
Sprinkle over some cheese and bake until golden. Yum!
Chicken & Brocolli Pasta
Fry off a couple of cubed / stripped chicken breasts and a finely chopped onion in a bit of butter.
At the same time put pasta and brocolli on to cook (although brocolli needs draining earlier than pasta!).
When the chicken is cooked, add a little flour. Add a half glass of white wine (optional but gives an excuse to open!) and some chicken stock.
Turn up heat and allow to reduce until very little sauce remains and it's quite thick.
Add cream and bring to gentle simmer.
I have added all sorts of herbs at this point!
Add brocolli and pasta, stir through and serve with a little grated cheese.
Also Yum! Can vary by adding bacon instead or as well as chicken, mushrooms instead of brocolli, or peas or sweetcorn etc etc!0
