Coffee £2, fruit and veg £13.11, Movember donation £10. Good and busy day at work, still ruminating on completion of whole house versus paying off the mortgage 5 months earlier.0

Busy time so no updates and I have taken my eye off the ball with the money I need to get a grip. Went to see the Book of the Dead exhibition at the BM on Tuesday and High Society, the history of mind altering drugs, at the Wellcome Trust last night so I am having a very cultured week.
All of which is displacement activity for shall I spend another £6k, genuinely not decided yet but I have to by Friday, today I list the pros, we all know the cons.0 -
Morning!!
Glad San Fran was good - some lovely purchases, by the sounds
I'd personally probably go for the hit on the mortgage and get the work all done now.... but that's just my opinion!I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Hi GreenT nice to see you, great minds think alike. £6k will be four payments which will make me have 79 payments from 1 January instead of 75, LET'S HAVE WINDOWS. I have spoken to the builder and given the go ahead. /Next year may be a bit quiet.
coffee £2, 2 bread rolls £1.18.0 -
Sounds like you've made the best decision for you - I have been saving a lot of work up and am having it all at once, that way it works out a bit cheaper (i.e. scaffolding already up = repointing doesn't have to include scaffold hire; having windows fitted now means have builder onsite to make good walls after - that was extra with previous quote).
How were the exhibition openings? Am thinking of high society with my sister and nephew this Sat - is it suitable for 17 year old?Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89
OPs 2011-2016 = £45K 2017 OPs = £9250.200 -
High Society is fine for a 17 year old, for me it didn't push the boundaries enough!
I am seeing one of my oldest friends tonight which I am looking forward to, still can't find a plumber who can come when I can get the day off I have another number to try today.
My builder tells me that now the walls are in my kitchen design doesn't work so I need help, hopefully the design team at wok will give me a hand.0 -
OK I have been slightly off the no spending boil, not sure why but whatever it is I need to get back on the bandwagon or life generally will start to unravel.
Good news, my job is secure for the next two years which gives me a kick up the backside to get to below £100k in my mortgage by the end of 2012, it's a target that is stretching but do-able. I work in a QUANGO so my pension etc is looking less rosy but everything hinges on the mortgage being finished, I need to concentrate on that.
Small annoyances- still no heating and the next day I can take any time off for a plumber is 24th November - deep joy of the single life. However tomorrow I just need to get a plumber to come on the 24th!
No spending day today, thank goodness. Need to have a quiet couple of weeks, I'm at friends next week-end (no heat here so I am going away a much as possible). The following two week-ends I have to be at work then with a bit of luck the week-end of 10th December I should be moving into my house that will be great of it works out.0 -
Coffee £2, spent the day in a university department, nice people tough times. Sausage something in tomato sauce of some description for tea, yes I am still working my way through the freezer, one drawer looks a bit emptier, the other is still packed with stuff. I think it will see me through the rest of November.0

I am spitting blood, my two year old boiler needs a new fan, a new motherboard and a new timer, is there anything else left to replace? blooming heck, the first quote is over £800 which will be going on a 0% card and upsets my paying off schedule. I will also get someone else to quote, I should have known when British Gas told me they wouldn't cover Keston boilers. \Off for a much needed soothing bath before I self combust.0

I think that you did the right thing going for it all at once (we did major renovations two summers ago - on a shoestring and already I'm wishing we had gone for more upmarket fixtures etc)
The plastering already really needs re doing as it was done so much on the cheap! Sometimes it's better to spend the cash.
As for no heating bit of a pain, but we haven't had ours on through choice today - and we are in the north! Although have to admit (I am a scrooge with heating and even I allowed OH to have it on for 6 hours on Sat)OPs so far £42,139
