My last day in San Francisco and I have had a lovely time and now I am really looking forward to being at home. There is an estate sale close to where I am staying so I will wander up there to kill a couple of hours and see if there is any vintage fabric or patterns.

My flight is in the evening which is a killer unless I can get some sleep on the plane, at some point today I need to find a chemist and get some melatonin. It is cloudy and cool today so I won't sit on the beach but I need to do a walk before I am stuck on the plane for ten hours..

On Monday I make the first payment to get rid of my 0% credit card the debt has to be gone by March, I am aiming for it to be gone by January so that all that remains of my debts is the mortgage.

I am still in bed at 9.15 which is not like me, hopefully I will feel a bit livelier after coffee. I have paid £2000 off my 0% card this morning, and another £5k will be transferred to the builder on Friday I think there will be another 3-5k after that depending how many windows I have to have replaced. I need to go onto my on-line banking ad work out exactly where I am.

Have very bad man flu, in reality a bit of a cold and jet lag. Back at work for a couple of days then off again I am going up north to see the progress on my house which I am really looking forward to.

    Grocery shop today £5.81.

Back at work today and also back on my £5 a day all in challenge. It's £4 today as I spent 81 pence over budget yesterday. My flat is not good and so I am going to do at least one major thing per day to get it back on track. Bathroom deep clean tonight is the first stage.

Just three days at work then I will see what state my house is in. I have to make some decisions about what I can do in the money that remains, it won't be everything. The cost of new windows is shocking but it seems to be unavoidable.
  • good luck with the cleaning toot ... gotta get sorted on that myself this week but coming home from work and doing it doesnt seem appealing! maybe Ill try your one thing a day challenge!

how do you find the taking cash for each day working out for you? is it easier to stick to a budget this way?

hope the jetlag now gone :)

Glad all the home improvements are going well, must have been nice being away to avoid the disruption of it all! Hope San Francisco was as good as you hoped it would be.

The CC will be gone before you know it!

Hi Both, nice to see you. The daily money really works for me. I take a fiver each day and what I don't spend goes in the money box and goes towards the fourth week FREE challenge (usually less successful than the £5 a day if I am honest).

Today coffee £2, bread and pate £1.65. Tube strike tomorrow XXXXing nightmare, I am preparing myself for a long trek leaving the house at 6.30 tomorrow morning, oh what joy.

    Hi tootallulah,

SF sounds fantastic. Now I know where I want to go when I can afford it in five years time!

I'll follow your progress now I've found your diary.

    All the best,

San Francisco is a beautiful and interesting place, now what exactly did I buy................vintage buttons and trimmings (rather a lot), 4 fabric remnants, three small presents in the SFMOMA shop, 2 vintage Vogue patterns, 4 lots of real wool felt (almost unobtainable in the UK). I had a great time at an estate sale, where I bought all the vintage stuff, if my case had been bigger there would have been no stopping me.

My kitchen floor has been laid today and both bathrooms will be in this week. It's moving fast now. I am going to inspect progress on Friday.
