I've just read through your entire thread and you are not in any way, shape or form a MFW. You are an insult to the real MFWs who post their real sacrifices to obtain something that is beyond the reach of most of us until the 25 year point of most mortgages.
Stop posting about your £2 coffees and £10+ rounds of drinks on an almost daily basis - it's insulting to the real MFWs (well, I find it insulting on their behalf).
"I have a modern flat so my plan is to have American shutters" - is in no way a MFW statement.

I agree with herewego - there is no one 'MFW' way of being or living! We all have different financial commitments and personal preferences - and it is an individual journey. I think that is the best part of these forums, that people earning next to nothing to absolutely loads can still identify being financially free of a mortgage as a worthwhile goal, and find their own way of getting there. If only more people I knew - not matter what they earned - had that goal. We can learn from everyone - if you are open minded enough!
You've already identified the coffees as something you plan to give up anyway! And you're better off getting the blinds you want for the flat once and for all rather than getting cheap ones you hate, which you'll end up replacing. The only difference with any purchase is that an MFW will think the purchase through, make sure they really want or need it, can afford it, budget for it, look for cashback, sales etc...

Thanks all, much appreciated but I must say I did just think don't read, it's my diary ***** off. In some ways these writings are probably the most honest I ever am and obviously it's not pretty but hey it's not disrespectful either. I nearly went out and bought a coffee in a child-like strop but laziness prevailed and I looked at shutters on the net instead.
I have now scrubbed and resealed my lime-stone floors - I saved up to have them and it is a huge mistake they are a nightmare! However the difficulty of their upkeep introduced me to the floor steamer an unbelievably marvelous boon if you hate cleaning floors. It's just an upright, lightweight steaming floor cleaner but it really works and means you don't have to slosh around in dirty water cleaning floors. It's like a cleaning hoover for tiles. Yes it is working fine today it must have overheated. Probably the shock of being used twice in a week.
For some reason I am feeling extremely positive today so now I am getting out my sewing machine to start making some retro aprons for my Christmas craft stall. I am also hand-sewing my "OK OK so I'm not Tracey Emin tea cosies. At some point I will work out what else could have appeared in a 60s kitchen as I need more than two product lines.
Yes I must say it is a bit odd having things going on in my house and not being there but my real job is managing huge build and fit-out projects so I really hate doing anything like that at home. If you've been "negotiating" with builders all day at work it is the last thing you fancy in your own life. I have decided on my IKEA kitchen and just need to go to a posh bathroom shop and then look for what I want on the net.0 -
Lovely dinner with friends last night, I took a bottle from my stash so I am counting yesterday as a NSD. It was a very productive day and I am now off to make up some aprons which I cut out yesterday. I am aiming not to spend today either, fingers crossed. I am speaking to ebay today to find out why I am struggling to set up my sellers account, I have been buying with no problems for years so I am a bit non plused as to why I can't get the pay pal end of things sorted. I need to sell a sofa and two chairs as my very small living room is a bit crowded, well for that read unuseable. I need this furniture to go.0

Glad you had a good evening Toot. I must say I feel bad now for not defending you when I posted following the insulting post. At the time I think I felt it best to just ignore it iykwim.
I enjoy your diary and like someone else said, we all have different incomes etc and different 'treats' I spend nearly £50 a month on an i-phone which is near enough a daily £2 coffee so feel well justified in your caffeine intake! How else would you find the energy to scrub those floors!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
CathT I agree with you, ignore and move on. Doing an SOA which is really hard so am lumping my payments for two properties together so at least I get where the money is going. Not pretty.0

I can't get my SOA to make any sense so will have another go tonight. I need two:one for London , one for the north otherwise it just looks like a very expensive everything. Lovely day yesterday with lots of sewing and I cooked dinner for a friend. £20 to last me until Friday, payday, with nothing that I HAVE to buy. I am havering over mortgage vs 0% card for my overpayment. I have decided mortgage as that is my biggest concern so in February I may be searching for a new 0% home for that debt. I would like to just have the mortgage to attack but we will see.0

I had enough trouble doing one SOA. Be worth it tho cos I use it to refer to when I get confused over my outgoings! (usually because I don't have the amount left my SOA tells me I should!)June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0

Looks like quite a few of us should probably not be MFW's with all the expensive new stuff we keep getting. :rotfl:Glad you didn't let one comment grind you down.
Good luck with your SOA. I find it hard work to keep on top of as something is always changing. Unfortunately never more money coming in, just bills changing, but it gives you some ideas when you do it.0 -
Wow!! Just caught up! I think within a month of me starting my MFW wannabe diary we went out and bought a brand new 7 seater car.... means I'm failing as a MFW too, then! Oh dear......
Anyway, I like reading your diary and all about your coffee, waitrose purchases and cleaningDon't stop
