Couch to 5k Running - Part Three

Well I did week 2, day 1 as well. Never thought that 30 secs would make such a difference :rotfl:Did the first 90 secs fine then when I got to the second one I hit the uphill section :eek: where I do the running and nearly died!!!! But I did do it mind. I think by the time I got to the last run I was wondering if it would ever end and how on earth I was going to walk for another 5 mins after that! I don't think the two days necessarily make a huge difference though because your body has to recover at some point doesn't it? Hmm am wondering if the next session will be worse or better, at least I know where I will struggle, maybe I will run looking at the floor then I wont have to look at the top of the hill

Ruby Eskimo - if you are feeling like you are going to throw up and you can't finish the run section, you are running TOO FAST
Slow down, it doesn't matter how slow you go, even if it's slower than walking, just don't stop running. When you get to your 5k, then you can build up your speed, but it's really important to get the endurance part first.
Don't give up now girls, you're doing really well, and in a couple of weeks, you'll be amazed at the progress you've made0 -

I actually think it might have been that I didn't eat or drink before I went out. It was more like mucus building up in my throat than actually throwing up. But I do think that I sometimes go a bit too fast, but that is also probably to do with the music I listen to while "running". I try to keep at a jog but sometimes I find myself speeding up in time to the music. Juggled my playlist around a little so it's not so fast! Going out for W2D2 in a little bit.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -
I get that too - much less now that I am fitter, but it's not nice. Good idea to put some slow music on - it should help you pace yourself through the run too - almost everyone starts their run too fast and slows down, whereas if you watch "proper" runners, they do the opposite
Just so you know it's totally achievable, I did a 0-5k course (not the same one you guys are using, but same principle) starting in May this year, I reached my 5k target and kept going - and am off for a 5 mile hill run this evening with the local running club (finishing in the pub) and am aiming to do the Brighton 10k in November with some of the other girls from the club. I started as a post-baby fattie who hadn't done any exercise in years, so I'm no natural athlete. If I can do it, you all can.

Well I did my second run of week 2 today, it wasn't any worse than the last one but I am not sure it was much better either. I did look down a bit more when running up the hill bit so I didn't have to look at the top and think oh no!!! Still can't imagine being able to run without having to stop and walk!!!!Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death.

Same here! I really need the walking to help recover. Did W2D2 as well today and felt it went a little better. Definitely started off slow and then sped up the further I got which felt a lot better!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -
Well done Poly and Ruby-Eskimo :T See it is amazing how quickly your body adjusts to the running. Your both doing well Keep it up
Chakani - Wow 10k :eek: I hope to make that my goal but round here it is very hilly and rural so a 10k is a real challenge at the moment.Restarting C25K in 2014 - Week 8 - 1/3 completed
Need to loose 25lb / 3lb lost so far0 -
I did my first walk/run today, following the NHS C25K podcasts. Haven't exercised in years, and have always said I wasn't built to run, but just about managed all the run sections, but tried to plan my route so that I didn't have too many uphill running sections.
It was very hot, even at 9.30am, and I had to cross the road to walk in the shade.
What type of activity should I do tomorrow - I know I need to leave a day before I try W1R2. I expect I will be aching in the morning!Need to lose 23lb, but need help!:( DFW Weightwatcher: 5lb/26lbDecluttered in Feb - 49/100, Mar - 82/100

Suziebea I would say probably just go for a bit of a walk, maybe some yoga just to make sure your muscles are kept flexible and not tightening up after the shock of running today. Nothing to strenuous because they do need to rest as well.
I haven't been out for my final run of Week 2 today because I got my monthly visitor last night and well, she leaves me in so much pain I really couldn't sleep. Feel awful and drained today, very hazy and faint most of the day but that's not unusual around this time. Will see what I'm like tomorrow and I might just go for it!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -
Well I did my last run of week 2 today before I went to the hospital so had to get up early to do it :eek:! TBH I don't feel any better doing the 3rd one of the week than the 1st, am a little worried I wont manage week 3 at all, or that I am pushing my luck to do this in the allocated time
. I am wondering what to do really, should I attempt week 3 and be prepared to be disappointed when I can't do it or repeat week 2 and feel a little disappointed that I had to repeat a week so early? When I got to the second to last run today I stopped about 2 seconds before the podcast said to (was going v slow too) and I did make the last run but only just.
