AllIwant - My RFL is next Sunday. Went for a run today after nearly 2 full weeks off (residential course with work) and was shocked at how much my endurance had fallen by. I was rather hot so I am blaming it on that currently. :D

A friend at work recommended Ibuprofen gel for the hip pain and it worked nicely so I'm going to be using it this week in anticipation for Sunday.

Keep up the good work peeps!! :T

Just found out that my OH hasn't booked next Sunday off for my race :( He apparently couldn't as there were two people off already - I booked the RFL in February....why leave it til now to change shifts?! GRRR.
How long til pay day?

I might try this although I already do quite an amount of running - my 10k time is 67 minutes (considering I'm over 17 stone I didn't think that was too bad). Will I still see the benefits of this programme? And also where can the podcasts be found?

I would be honest and say that this is prob not going to be any advantage to you. It is really aimed at people who don't run and want to start.
But if you want to download the podcasts you can at http://www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/couch-5K-running-plan.aspx

    Hello all,
I really wanted to start this program soon (just getting over surgery first so bare with me) so I thought in preparation I would download the podcasts from the BBC, but they are all in a zip format an when I unzip it comes up with "the compressed folder is invalid" is this a common problem or did I do something wrong! Thanks

Just wanted to know how you got on with your Race for Life last weekend ? Hope it all went well :D

Mine is this Sunday and I am now a little worried but I am sure it will be fine. I hope the atmosphere will keep me going. I know I am not going to do sub 30 mins but as long it is under 40 mins I will be happy.

Did your OH get the day off and come along ?

Oh hello all. Just found this thread - don't know why I didn't look for it on here earlier :o Sorry to gatecrash but I wanted to share today's news :D

I am on week 5 of the program so not quite up to running a full 5k yet but today I did the Race For Life and managed a time of 39 minutes and 7 seconds which I am delighted with. :D

I ran for the first 3K and the last 1K and then did a bit more running and speed walking inbetween. It's my first ever 5k and the last time I did any running was more than 25 years ago in school!!!
It's easier to get forgiveness than to ask permission ;)
  • Hi everyone :D

Did my Race for Life today which was my goal when I started the C25K and I did it in 27 Minutes :j:j:j
I still cannot believe how fast I managed it. I Ran all the way and was running with a friend from work who I thought at the start blimey she is going fast, but during the last 2KM she got stitch and went slower and slower so I said sorry I need to finish this and left her behind. But I did go back at the finish and help her as she practically collapsed as she crossed the line. Silly thing forgot to eat breakfast as she was nervous
Anyway my advice would be to anyone keep it up I know it feels hard at times but it does work I am proof of that

Can anyone advise me where to start.
I'm 47 and want to do a 5k run in October (Shugborough) on behalf of LHM, the charity which supports my disabled son.
I have followed some links and found the NHS couch to 5K podcasts.
I understand that in order to listen to a podcast I need an I pod. I have looked at the Argos catalogue and there seem to be a huge variety? from £39.99 to £200 plus!
What will I need to download a pod cast?
Also - what is good/secure for carrying around when running (well walking initially).

Any suggestions as to where I buy running shoes and what is a reasonable price to pay? I bought some trainers from Next a few years ago but they don't have much bounce or support and they picnh my toes, the only shoe shops we seem to have in town are Clarks and Jones, I assume I need to go to a specialist sports shop - is that right?

Sorry to crash and ask such basic questions, especially re the I pod, I think I'm a tad out of touch with the times

I am not expert in this program as I am only intending to start soon! But you do not need an iPod to play the podcasts, do you have a smart phone or something that plays mp3s? I am using my phone (already had one so didn't have to buy anything) to play the podcasts from the nhs site but I have bought THIS to carry it securely in cos I had not idea how to carry it otherwise! I actually got some trainers from a nike outlet, because I have no specialist sports shops near me at all, but was lucky because the lady there who helped me was a runner and helped me chose an appropriate shoe without breaking the bank. I am sure people who are doing this can help more than me but thought I'd give you a start.
