The data caps only apply to those who take new tariffs out from 24th June. All previous tariffs will remain uncapped.

Until October, these new tariffs will be unlimited. O2 will send a text if you approach your capped limit from October when capping starts.

So if I upgrade my current tariff, I would stay on what I have got... even if it is not an iphone tariff?

Is it iPhone hating though? Or is it just people trying to help others see through all of the marketing hype that the iPhone is basically twice the price of equal / better phones? Its about choice at the end of the day and if people are happy to pay over the odds for an iPhone then thats their prerogative.

I think I (and so many others) take so much pleasure in pointing out the iPhone deficiencies because for years I have heard friends going on about how great their iPhone is. They have become so single minded that they are like clones - they can't now see anything beyond iPhone this, that and the other.... even though better, cheaper products exist.

The number of times I have told a friend that the HTC Desire is better than his 3GS and he just throws the toys out of the pram - he won't have it that anything can be better than his iPhone and laughably he still has 18 months of £40 payments on a phone that is about to be superseded.

I don't read most of the Android threads, so no idea if any idiot iPhone users are derailing the discussion. I absolutely love my iPhone and am confident there is no Android phone that offers what I need, however you will not see me slating Android.

The fact that every iPhone thread is completely derailed by crowing and insults has stopped me from posting a query I have about alternative handsets (for someone else). I have even been called a fanboy myself, which just kills any chance of an adult debate. Your friends may have gone on about their iPhone, why take your frustration out on MSE? You have more control over what your friends say to you than anyone here!

The iPhone is not twice the price of equal or better phones as 'equal or better' is subjective: if you use a camera regularly then clearly the 3GS is not for you, if a Nike+ sensor is a deal breaker then Android handsets are a waste of money. I don't wear labels and barely watch television, so I have not been swayed by marketing hype - I actually researched before spending so much money, reading MSE and Engadget etc.

Every handset is superseded within a few months, even your Desire! My 3GS is about to be superceded by the beautiful iPhone 4 but I am not fussed as none of the new features are ones that appeal to me. I am looking forward to OS 4.0 tho, and fervently wish terrorists would bomb the servers that host iTunes as it really is a pile of poo. :p

If you go on the internet every day quite a lot, but dont do much actual downloading, how long will it take you to get through 500MB?

Charging for picture messages is the big shock. Was always going to go with O2 when I get my new iPhone, but may have to see what the others do now

Really? That one slipped past me! Very odd tho, I'd much rather they put a cap on the text message and gave you some picture messages for free. Who really needs unlimited texts?

The data cap has really put me off upgrading. I'll stick with my 3GS for now.

My data charges when abroad are always much more than I expect them to be. Having the hassle of keeping tabs on it all the time is not my cup of tea.

I'll see how the land lies when the next model is out.

Very nice of them to tell us it includes unlimited wifi. I hate it when they try and muddy the waters like that :-(

As djrobmac, O2 removed the option to send MMS and text messages from abroad from your SMS allowance earlier this year. As far as I know, all the other networks charge for MMS anyway now.

I switched my tariff around the time of the changes so I will be staying on that and getting an iPhone 4 on PAYG.
