I get to play with lots of phones that are headed for the UK market before they get here and i can say with great confidence that the new iphone will be out done, very soon. I was shocked that the Pre didn't kick off but then the build quality of the phone was not a good move by Palm but you will see webOS on lots and lots of wireless devices. HTC have done a very good job with the Evo and if it was released here it would give the iphone a run for its money.

As i said before, watch out for webOS, it will be on many many devices from printers, slates and phones. There will also be a phone released that will blow the lid of the iphone, even more so than some do already.

Apple has a fan base and that is where it will always do more, people that dont know anything else. There is of course nothing wrong with that but they fail to understand the market and the tech behind it all. To them the OS on an Apple phone is better because they dont understand the likes of Android or webOS, they look at the shell of the phone itself. Apple have not invented the phone camera, the video function nor have they made it better. They have played catch up and you pay the price as you will for the closed OS.

If i went on looks i would not of bought the Pre Plus i would of got an HTC of some sort. We also need to look at what they sell you. Will you use half of what they put on it or do you understand the workings behind it all. Take Blackberry, they make some horrible looking phones but work very very well. Half of the things on the phone you wont understand or use i can assure you of that, just like the ipad, it looks great but what the hell will you do with it. Smasung already have something coming out that is far better than the ipad. The ipad was a iflop. Not to say the iphone will be but it wont be as great as some of you want it to be but it will be as good as Apple tell you it will be.

It's a TCP protocol.. wi-max... And even when it gets rolled out in England it'll take a year or so and the new iPhone will be out and support it :)

In the UK I think it was down to advertising, and I think the Dell Streak will suffer the same way. O2 at the time had the iPhone and pushed it heavily, they did not advertise the Pre. I suspect the Streak will be the same, it was released friday and already has been eclipsed by the iPhone 4. O2 just don't seem to be interested in promoting anything other than it iPhone (possible Apples influence). *if* it had gone to Vodafone then it may be different but it didn't.

WebOS doesn't need to be on printers, it's overkill to print, all they need is a bit of memory storage, a simple status web page and a reliable feed mechanism. Printers don't need to multitask to any great extent, some multifunction devices do but they are getting into canon business machine terretory and no something you'd have at home.

HP don't have a history of smart phones and also don't have any foothold in the mobile space. I had a Compaq iPaq, and currently have a HP iPaq (interestingly made by HTC), but HP didn't really add in much to the iPaq range (which came from the Compaq merger) other than occasional device updates and failed to develop it into a smart phone. There are a few half baked phones but nothing really cutomer focussed. They had the market with the iPaq, and could have had a really good mobile device but they aimed at business users who wanted a simple easy to use device, and Windows Mobile isn't that. RIM came in and cleaned up.

I suspect WebOS will appear on some tablets and netbooks but to be honest Windows is so entrenched on them it's a mugs game. Even the free linux variants have been supplanted by Windows "starter" editions on netbooks. Given there is a extra price to pay for windows it must be something people are willing to pay for.

There will be a phone released that will blow the iPhone away, and it may have WebOS on it, but I really doubt it will be released by HP.

I hope you're joking, actually I guess you are - having just reread your point. However what follows might be worth reading for some so I'll leave it on here.
4G is a marketing concept meaning 4th generation. It is generally accepted, although not universally, that analogue cellular systems like AMPS in the US and TACS in the UK were 1G systems, although of course nobody used such terminology at the time. 2G saw the move to digital systems like GSM in Europe and much of the rest of the world and CDMA in the US and some other markets, notably in Korea, some other parts of Asia, South America and so on. the whole G thing started when the industry was looking for a way to brand its new child UMTS back in 2000/2001, so they called it 3G. Ever since then people have been adding bits to it like 3.5G, 3.75G and even 3.9G. It is generally accepted that a 4G cellular system will be based on an OFDM modulation scheme, rather than WCDMA, which is what 3G is based on.
WiFi also uses OFDM at the PHY layer, but it isn't a cellular technology and does not support mobility as cellular systems do so it is not any G. Got that? Good.

Apple has a fan base…well, you could call it that or you could say it has happy customers who don't need to "understand" an OS. What they understand is how easy it is to get most things done and they live with the limitations such as they are.
I don't like Apple's way of dealing with people - try posting a comment they don't like in the support area of their site and you'll see what I mean, but you have to hand it to them they have led the way in terms of making the features on their devices usable. Nokia shipped features years before Apple, but nobody could make them work, even after hours with a manual and on help forums, yet Apple ships a version (probably less feature-rich) and even my mother can use it and she wouldn't dream of using a manual.
It's as pointless and irritating being anti-Apple as it is being a fanboi.

I really don't think 4G is just Wifi. If it was then every phone that currently has Wifi will work on a 4G network. Seems a bit silly of HTC to have developed a model specifically for the Sprint network in the US.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Yes eurorrocket I was joking haha :)

BillScarab.. it's not even a standard.. :) If you were going to relate it to anything it would be 802.11m which is wi-fi.. You'd just need compatible devices...

Sprint put up a wi-fi tower on every WalMart which is how they offer "4G"

What an incredibly patronising post. What is your source for suggesting everyone who chooses an Apple product is a 'fanboy' who doesn't know anything else? If you had the intellect you intimate you would not HAVE bought the PrePlus you would HAVE purchased an HTC handset. It should go without saying that the iPhone 4 will be outclassed in the next few months.

Of course some people get an iPhone or an iPad simply because it is made by Apple. Of course some people just go on styling or are blinded by slick advertising. Many who bought the Desire or EVO just got it because it's shiny, new and has pose value: that doesn't make all Android users morons by association! :rotfl:

Your usage of your handset is not superior to mine, it is simply different. No doubt if I gave you my 3GS you'd have no use for the inbuilt Nike+ sensor nor the fitness, health and research apps I have loaded. I did spend time researching specs, don't play games, rarely use a camera and e-mail from my laptop. Crack on and find a BlackBerry or Palm product that would meet the needs of THIS qualified personal trainer. :j
