iPhone 4 has done nothing to improve that i suppose and looks like it is even worse compared to the previous models.
see if the suggestions in this link help you http://www.anandtech.com/show/3794/the-iphone-4-review/2
see why the software update from apple to 'fix' the issue wont really help you http://gizmodo.com/5577812/why-apples-iphone-4-update-wont-fix-your-reception-problem
"After acquiring my iPhone 4, the first thing I did was try to fire up Field Test via the widely documented *3001#12345#* dialer code. Unfortunately, like iOS 4 running on the 3GS and 3G, Field Test is absent from the iPhone 4. It isn't a matter of the dialer code, it's that Field Test has been completely removed from the applications directory in the filesystem.
For those that don't know, Field Test variants exist on virtually every phone for purposes of debugging the air interface and baseband. Quality metrics like RSSI (raw signal strength) usually in dBm are reported alongside a wealth of other metrics like SNR and even what adjacent towers are visible to the phone for handing off. It's a tool usually buried deep in every phone because the amount of data would overwhelm normal mobile users, but is useful for engineers and curious but savvy users alike to find out what's going on with the cellular network. For whatever reason, Apple really doesn't want anyone running that tool anymore.
Just about everyone knows that although reporting signal strength in bars gets the job done, it's an absolutely worthless metric for comparison across devices and platforms due to lack of standardization."
if you want to know what dBm and ASU etc are or want to try some work arounds i tried and which worked for me, see my thread on signal issues https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2523297= (the first post is a loooong story, just a warning)
havent read this full thread, so apologies if the gizmodo and anandtech links analysing the signal deterioration issue have been mentioned already.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
i always end up doing that
keys and change on one side
phone on the other
then one day you forget and.............
Call me anal but Mine has been in the box since I got it on Friday. I won't get it out until my vinyl skin and screen protector arrive. With my 3gs I had them already so no waiting then. Sad, I know.ccderby wrote:Sorry with the vast amount of Iphone4 messages I don't know if this has been published yet, if not a warning if ordering on Orange where they are showing black iphone4s as available.
I ordered one and was asked online to choose a delivery time - tomorrow morning I chose. All went swimmingly (with the exception of Tesco Mastercard turning the payment down for no reason other than it was online and an iphone). I rang Orange to sort this out and was told, I could go ahead with this but it wouldn't be tomorrow morning, instead probably 7 to 10 days, as they were just showing available to process the waiting list of customers and they didn't have any for new customers. I wonder when they would have told me this if I hadn't had to call them.
Well my friend has been told 4-6 weeks until he can get one from Orange so don't hold your breath!!!
Any news on a jailbreak yet?????????0 -

Sorry don't understand what you mean. I went to an O2 shop and upgraded our business contract and got 2 iphones. I see/use the other every day but won't use mine until its protected. Why wouldn't I like it and whats Apple/distance selling got to do with anything? I've admitted to being sad and anal, I'm not adding stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!0

If you don't like it, you won't be able to return it after seven days unless there is some other fault etc or Apple has a more lax return policy. Today will be your last date to arrange a return if you don't like it.
From the tone of their post, Bubbles, I don't think they'll return the phone unless there is a fault with it!!In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Just put 2 & 2 together.
about 4-5 weeks ago the company I work for had a massive order for service tools from our American agent who said they were for Apple who needed them urgently for the iphone 4. They need to get the tools in to the service place before the release date. Which wasn't going to happen due to the order coming in 3 days before the release date. So it would seem they were thinking of reworking in the service centres.
They required at least two tools in each service centre and a load for their own use in San Francisco. Didn't really think much of it until our Agent confirmed that it was due to a technical issue which was discovered before the release date.
Would seem that Apple knew about the hardware issues (Anntenna) before they released the phone.
Hope they get it sorted so I can pluck up the courage to get one.0 -
Smithers, how would the tools be used? Replacing the whole antenna by hand would be an expensive and time consuming job.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0

I just didn't understand the distance selling bit? My O2 shop would snatch my hand off if I returned it for something different, they have mile long queues every time they have a delivery. And have you seen the prices on ebay? I didn't mean my post to have a 'tone'. Sorry.0 -

Hi Vix
Wasn't having a go - Bubbles was referring to the "cooling off" period you get if you buy the phone over the internet under the "Distance Selling Regulations" and the fact that some firms give you this in store too. This gives you 7 days to return the phone "no questions asked".
I was saying that from the way you'd written your post it came across as you saying that you were extremely happy with the phone and just annoyed with the delay of the screen protector and bumper.
Good tone; not bad tone!!!

I would say there is a problem with your handset then as a few friends also have the ip4 and have also reported good battery life. Take it to the genius bar if you have one near you and see what they say.
Agreed, my iphone 4 has an astonishing battery life (well astonishing compared to my previous 3gs)"I don't want to sound cold and un-caring, but I am those things so that's the way it comes out" - Bill Hicks0
