iPhone '4' thread

A few days ago I was going to post something about what to expect next but decided not to because it would've been a bit negative - but it's already happened!
Usually when Apple launch a product, some users are quick to identify problems and this problem gets hyped and usually turns out not to be a big deal in the end. We've had it with batteries issues, screen scratching/cracking, iPhones over-heating and also MacBooks turning yellow. However, before it's official launch date, there is a problem... with the screen. Might (and probably will) turn out to be nothing but worth keeping an eye out for:

I am locked into an O2 contract (6 months remaining) and currently have NO phone! I destroyed my iphone 3GS last week by accident and it's currently being assessed by the insurers.:(
So I actually am desperate to get my hands on a working iPhone 4 ASAP i.e. tomorrow
It's complicated as I am off to Devon tomorrow (leaving at midday) for 2 days and need to have something sorted before I get to Devon.
My options are:
1. En route to Devon, about 3pm, pick up my reserved iPhone 4 at Bristol Cribbs Causeway Apple Shop - cost £499. My questions are: Will the Apple shop be able to sort me out with a micro SIM for my current o2 contract there and then, and will they be able to get the phone set up for me on their in-store Macs so I can literally walk out the store with a fully operational phone on my current contract?
I won't have access to a computer while in Devon.
or
2. Do I get up at 6am and go to the O2 store in Hemel near where I live and pay £120 early contract release fee plus £185 to buy a new iPhone 4 and sign up to another 18 months with O2?
I would prefer option 1 (as I ideally want to buy the phone outright) but not if I am going to be stuck in Devon with a new phone that I can't actually use.
It looks to me like neither option is going to be ideal for you. I'd bet the Apple store people might well have set the phone up for you on a normal day but tomorrow will be mad busy. Not only that, but they won't be able to give you a new O2 microsim, only O2 will. (however many have stated that you can cut a normal sim into a microsim - check the thread earlier, or google/youtube it, may be a risk involved though i.e. breaking your sim if done wrong)
Personally I'd source another 3G phone (a friends spare for example) and use that until the insurers get back to you, since Tesco are cheaper than O2 for a new contract. If I didn't need the phone for the two days I'd just do without one, it could be surprisingly refreshing! However if you are desperate and money is no issue, O2 should be able to sort you out.0 -
good luck to everyone tomorrow who are queueing up hope you get your phoneWhat goes around-comes around0
