I always find it's just best to follow the instructions, rather than to confuse yourself and others. :)

Think I found the problem there is a user called "locked" and the files were being downloaded there instead of under my user name. Looks like I have to go to the "locked" user to gain access to particular parts of pc.

Okay so now have disc I THINK! Said it was completed so hopefully all is okay.

I've put CD in laptop driver, restarted but there isn't anything coming up about boot from CD.

When the dell window comes up there is an option to key F12 boot menu. Then it gives option to open Windows 7 or memory diagnostics.

I've tried a few times and the same thing keeps happening.

What files can you see on the disc, if there is an iso file on there, you did it wrong.

While you are in windows7, check in disk manager what partitions you have.

I would need instructions as to see what files are on the disc?

Where do I find disc manager?

Sorry about this, I feel so hopeless.

While you are in windows7, check in disk manager what partitions you have.

In the device manager (Not sure if thats same as disc manager) it looks as if there are two partitions as primary partitions 1) System Reserve Disc 0 with 100MB and 2) C with 73.03GB.

Then there is another section CD-ROM which is listed in completely different boxes from the above two.

Don't know if that information is any use or not.

Back from the supermarket. Choose F12 for the Boot Menu and choose CD/DVD Drive as the first to Boot.

Morning, thanks for helping again, didn't expect anyone to be here after my escapades yesterday. Okay, managed to get the screen to go through to Boot Menu and chose F12 and clicked on CD/DVD. It gives two options "Repair" and "Start Windows Normally"? I came back out of the screen as didn't want to go any further until I knew whether to hit "Repair".

I notice my discs have a blue band on one side and not the other, does that mean anything?

Just had a phone call, I need to go out for a couple of hours but when I come in I will check here and then do whatever is required.

Okay, clicked on F11, then F12, then CD/DVD(??)

    Windows would not open.
    Started repair
    System Restore

Report: all repairs completely successfully. All listed marked with Error code OXO

    Root cause found:

"unspecified change to system configuration might have caused the problem.
Repair: system restore completed successfully. Error code 0X0"

Then message to click and start windows again which it did. I still had disc in at that point.

Why? Where in any of your guides have you been asked to press the keys in that order??
If you cannot follow instruction exactly you are going to have problems.
